Bit of an odd one. My passport runs out this march and we are planning to go abroad later on in the summer but I have just started wli’s what do I do about my photo on it? If I lose a lot of weight it prob won’t look like me now will they still accept it? Dh thinks it will be fine but I’m a bit of a worrier and concerned that it will be a problem. Any thoughts or has anyone faced this and was it ok?

I had this when I went on holiday in summer 2025. My passport photo is from when I was morbidly obese. I have many chins and a big round face in the photo, it’s a stark reminder of how far I’ve come. I was worried that the passport control people would have an issue with it, I’d lost about 8st then and my face was very different. But they couldn’t have cared less, it was stamped and on we went.

Your biometrics will not change on your face and you will still have the same features so I dont know what you are worrying about

TheAutumnCrow · 17/01/2026 15:48

It’s something about eyes-nose-lips distances, isn’t it?

Lovingtheglitter · 17/01/2026 16:07

Ah thanks all will sort it out this week

I have no idea and have never thought about it!

i was worrying because I have never even thought about it til now and they cost 95 pounds. I was worried that if they wouldn’t accept it I would have to pay for another so that’s why.

Do you mean when you’re renewing and look different between both photos? In that case, it is often recommended that you have it countersigned.

Edited to add: It would need to be a huge change though, almost unrecognisable.

No I mean I can renew my passport now and look like I do now on it but I’ve only been on the jabs for one week and when I do go abroad in the summer I won’t look like I do now. Looking at pp I can see they probably wouldn’t even look at the pic but all the other info on it

Ah sorry, yeah you’ll be fine.

Squirrelchops1 · 17/01/2026 17:24

Lol...is it that you'd rather your new, soon to be slimmer face for another 10 years on your passport than your current face?
I renewed my passport last year and the picture is so bad I keep hoping I secretly lose it.

hahagogomomo · 17/01/2026 17:26

If you aren’t going away until later this summer i would apply 8 weeks before you are due to leave. Renewals do not take long if you use the online service and first class post for your passport return

Myfridgeiscool · 17/01/2026 17:28

Use it as an incentive. Get your passport at Easter, give yourself a boost when you see how well you’ve done! Passports don’t take long to get sorted.

Seymorbutts · 17/01/2026 18:15

Well, they accept 5-year-old children’s passports who’s photos are of them when they’re newborn babies so pretty sure you’ll be fine!

notcomfortable · 17/01/2026 19:34

Yeah you will be fine, you won't be unrecognisable
I lost 4.5 stone and see photos of myself from years ago, I still look like me just without puffy cheeks lol

ShrankLastWinter · 17/01/2026 21:11

My passport photo is from before I lost 5.5 stone. I travel a lot. Actually the passport checkers do look twice now. None have said anything and there hasn’t been a problem, but I have noticed them noticing.

They must be used to seeing significant weight gains over 5 years, so probably quite cheering for them to suddenly have lots of lighter, healthier travelers.

Lovingtheglitter · 17/01/2026 21:31

I can see I have been worrying over nothing of course the children’s passports are fine I didn’t even think of that and they change hugely so I will be fine! Thanks all 😊
