Side effects starting after 3 months

My husband has been on the injections for about 3 months. I think it’s Wegovy he’s on. He’s well over 6 foot and was very heavy. About 28 stones to begin with. The weight has been coming off him easily and to begin with he had no side effects. I think he’s lost about 3 stones. He hasn’t been feeling hungry at all and has typically been having one small meal a day.

I’ve been worried that he can’t be taking in enough nutrients on what he’s been eating but he was happy with how it’s going.

However the last couple of weeks his ‘side effects’ have started and been getting steadily worse. It started off with lots of wind and then feeling a bit sick and having diarrhoea. That lasted a couple of days and then he felt better for a day but then the day after that he pooed himself a little bit while we were out. A couple of days after that he made a meal, ate a bite and then had to rush to be sick. He thinks it’s because he ate a big meal the day before but at the point of sickness he had gone 24 hours without eating anything. The sickness was yesterday. He was sick once more and then lay on the sofa feeling sick but hasn’t been sick again.

Does this sound fairly normal for the injections? Why would the side effects have started now when he’s had a few months of nothing? I suppose it could be related to having more ‘rich’ food over Christmas. I just hope it settles down again soon as it means he can’t leave the house as he’s worried he’s going to be sick or need the loo.

Maybe there are a few things that don’t agree with him and he will have to let it settle down again now and be careful.

I wouldn’t worry about what nutrients he is getting, if he is eating a healthy meal every day. Is he taking vitamins and supplements?

Sounds like the answer is possibly in your post - big meals, 24 hour fasts, rich Christmas food.

Once he gets back into a post Christmas routine of eating healthily, portion control and more regularly to work with the medication things might return to normal.

No he’s not taking any vitamins etc

I started with hives all over my body 3 months in and had to stop. Is he increasing his dosage? That could explain the side effects only starting now

How’s your DH doing now @Iloveagoodnap?

My understanding is that side effects (particularly gastric ones) are worse when eating rich, fatty foods so I wonder if the Christmas eating set it off? Has it settled now that the festive period is over?
