New pen plunger not working

I’m furious 😡🙈🤣 have to rant somewhere as I’m a secret user!

I don’t know why I’m laughing, took a full dose of a new 5mg Mounjaro pen and it wasn’t like my other pens.
It primed ok, but the plunger went down so fast, (almost slipping on the ‘teeth’ clicky things inside) I usually have to press quite firmly.

I’m sure it’s a tiny dose I’ve had as I mark the pen to see how many doses I’ve had etc and the plunger has hardly moved.
I’m going to be demented by next Monday evening 😞 I was wondering if I wait until Thursday evening and it still hasn’t kicked in, do I try a 2.5mg dose with a new needle or just draw the doses out for this pen? Has this happened to anyone? Thanks

Could you post a picture of the pen showing where the plunger is in the glass vial part?

The small left black line is where the plunger started. The right is after the full dose/clicks of the pen.

This wasn’t the first dose from this pen? You’d done a partial dose, less than 60 clicks already?

I’d used 2.5mg last week ok.
It was my first full 5mg dose from it.

Was the 2.5mg last week done via the pen by doing 30 clicks, or did you use an external syringe?

I can’t honestly remember, I’m sorry. It was a split dose so I had a syringe from an old pen, I’m sure I’d used a pen needle but can’t be 100%

The only time I’ve heard of the plunger slipping like that is when you’ve used a syringe to extract. The plunger doesn’t move down as it does when you use the pen as intended. If you then try to use the pen by turning and plunging as normal, the plunger just slips along inside the empty part of the vial and doesn’t push any medicaiton out.

I suspect that’s what’s happened here.

Can I suggest that if you’re doing lots of different doses and mixing using syringes and pens, that you record it each week on a spreadsheet or other written note somehow.

Thanks for replying, It’s because my other half is home for Christmas - he usually works away, so I’m having to secretly hurry doing the doses too which doesn’t help. I should have waited until he was in bed

I only usually use a syringe for a final dose of a pen. Do you think I’d be ok taking a small dose on Thursday evening?

@NEMum01 I would try and get back on track with a normal 5mg on the day you usually inject. So for me, in your situation I would probably just tough this week out and do a 5mg dose with the pen on Monday evening. Before trying to use the pen normally, I’d want to check that the plunger is in contact with the remaining medication, and that it primes ok. Otherwise you could use syringes for that whole pen.
