Struggling to drink.

Is anyone else struggling to drink? I'm never thirsty but know I have to up my water intake. It's almost torture forcing even a litre of water down my throat.
I haven't lost any weight in the last 3 months, I'm sure it's because I'm not drinking enough.
Any advice, tips, help gladly received.
TIA

Have you tried lukewarm water? I mix cold with boiled and find it much easier to drink. Also using a straw.

Similar to @Reevester I drink out of pint glasses, but find them much easier to drink at room temperature. I struggle to drink any volume when too cold.

Thanks both. I haven't tried that but certainly will. Anything that might help is so very welcome.

I'm the opposite. Can only drink super cold and with a straw! I got a Stanley cup and use it specifically for cold water, I really dont like water but I give it my best go.

Try all the temperatures!

Yes to finding the right drinking vessel. I can drink twice as much from a flask with a lip than from a regular glass. I don't know why but when I start to drink I suck down more from the flask and that adds up over the day.

It doesn't have to be water. I have more decaf tea than anything because I'm more likely to drink a hot drink than cold in winter. I have a few flavours to choose from for variety. Some people find success with hot squash too.

Other ideas: make soup for lunch, or have a home made smoothie, or have a small cup of water/skimmed milk/oat milk/squash before you eat anything.

A thing that also worked for me was tracking my fluid intake. Even before MJ I was awful at drinking enough, I now use an app (Waterllama, other ones are available) and set a target to hit, it's really helped me keep focused on staying hydrated.

You don’t have to drink water alone though. What did you used to drink to stay hydrated?

Fffreeeeezing · 28/12/2025 21:16

I don’t really like water, I drink sugar free squash - 5+ litres a day, I don’t think it really matters what you drink as long as it isn’t full of sugar obviously.

Always in a Stanley cup (well, a cheap copy anyway 🤣) so I can track how many litres.

I’m 9 months in and don’t get any side effects so I think the drinking helps, especially with warding off the dreaded constipation.

I’m also 7 and a half stone down so far so must be doing something right

My throat tightened from time to time
A straw helps

It doesn’t have to be water, it can be any kind of herbal tea, normal tea, coffee, broth, light soup, ….
If you haven’t lost in 3 months, it has more to do with what and how much you eat than water intake.
