Hello,
I have just ordered mounjaro for the first time.
What would you do. Start now or wait until after Christmas? Part of me just wants to get started now. But I have a LOT of meals out booked. I'm not necessarily worried about not eating a lot, I'm more concerned that I have not very nice side effects-i still want to socialise.

What would you do?

Thank you.

Me, I would start now. But I had a very large amount of weight to lose and once I’d decided I just wanted to crack on. I didn’t have any side effects on 2.5mg at all, just didn’t want to eat very much which is the intended effect.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 10/12/2025 17:24

I’d get started now. Why would you want to gain Xmas weight first?

12345abcdefg · 10/12/2025 17:49

It's not about wanting to gain christmas weight. I'm not planning to overindulgence.
Its more seeing my auntie who was extremely bloated when she first started, and how miserable I'd feel not being able to fit into my nice dress.
Or not being able to enjoy any food at Christmas due to bad heartburn etc (which also affected my auntie).

I'm 3 stone away from a healthy weight. Maybe I'll just start x

I’ve never been bloated or had heartburn in 17 months taking Mounjaro. Everyone’s different. Most people don’t get side effects, or only mild ones if they do. But if you want to absolutely avoid side effects then obviously wait till after Christmas to start.

unicornsandchocolate · 10/12/2025 22:32

I'm in the same position and had the same question. Mine is due to arrive tomorrow or Friday. I am going away this weekend, but I think I'm going to start on Monday. I'm keen to get started now, and wonder if I'll even see a little benefit by Christmas. Not much I know, but maybe enough to boost my feelings about myself.

maz99 · 10/12/2025 22:33

I've not had any side effects since I started at the end of August, but I do understand the way you feel - because I felt the same way too before I started.

But I just cracked on - in fact as soon as it was delivered I injected

PigeonsandSquirrels · 11/12/2025 07:49

I’ve also not really had any side effects - only had heartburn once or twice but it’s usually if I haven’t eaten in a while and a piece of fruit staves it off. Most people don’t get severe discomfort, but of course if you want to wait then do

Mysticmaiden · 13/12/2025 19:23

A lot of the side effects are due to type of food intake and food volume, for example avoid fatty, greasy food and alcohol to avoid GI issues like diarrhoea and sulphur burps. Reducing carbs and drinking water will help avoid bloating. Eating little and often will stabilise blood sugar and avoid overeating which can cause heartburn and sulphur burps. Most people don't get side effects.

twilightcafe · 13/12/2025 19:30

Start.
You'll still be able to eat nice food - just not as much as before.

SucculentWindowLedge · 13/12/2025 19:31

I’m in the same situation. I was supposed to receive one today but it wasn’t delivered.

I think I will wait. I have a houseful of people and worry about being distracted by side effects. I think I’ll start around the 28th.

PluckyChancer · 13/12/2025 19:36

You’ll need to avoid very rich and fatty foods and reduce your alcohol intake as these are the common things that cause unpleasant digestive issues.

You might also find that foods that you enjoyed previously hold no interest for you.

Comedycook · 13/12/2025 19:38

I'd start now...my only regret with the jabs is not starting sooner!

ShrankLastWinter · 15/12/2025 09:05

I started this time last year and was already half a stone down by the new year. Enjoyed small portions of the non-greasy food, without wanting more. Heaven!

Tammy214 · 15/12/2025 13:32

I ordered it to start in jan but decided to bite the bullet and start in december instead , started a few weeks before xmas so i would hopefully not have side effects for xmas.
I also think its easy to put it off, and it also depends whats important to you. if you start now you can feel out how it is working and any issues beforehand
