Hi,

Needing to move up to 7.5. If I buy a 12.5 pen..

How many clicks is it for a dose of 7.5?
How many weeks would it last?

We share a pen (obviously not anything else) and was hoping to be able to use a 12.5 pen to both get 7.5 each time out of it.

Thanks 😊

I wouldn't share a pen, unless using separate insulin syringes to extract the medication every time. Each time you attach a pen needle and insert it into your body there is an open channel into the medication vial and the possibility of back flow of fluids from your body into the vial.

7.5mg is 60% of 12.5mg (7.5/12.5), a full dose is 60 clicks or 0.6ml so for 7.5 from a 12.5mg pen you'd want 36 clicks or 0.36ml in a syringe.

There are 240 clicks available in the pen, so that would be 6 injections at 36 clicks, with 24 clicks left over. If using syringes you'd have access to the remaining medication and be able to do another two doses of 0.36ml.

You’d be better for 15 mg for two of you in 7.5 and you should ideally treat it like a vial and use an insulin syringe.

my husband and I are on 5mg each right now and I’m considering just continuing with one prescription come the new year , moving up to 10mg,and just using it like a vial.

@Sunshin80 if you're sharing the pen then you'd be better off each going for 6.25mg for this 12.5mg pen, I would say. That would then be exactly half a dose each, so you'll each get four doses from the pen with no odd amount left over.
But please follow the advice given by @SilenceInside and both of you use insulin syringes rather than pen needles.
As @Frenchfrychic you would be better off waiting until next month to move up to 7.5mg when you can get a 15mg pen and again it's then exact half doses each and no left over.
Note, if you do use insulin syringes you will also both get a fifth dose from the 12.5mg pen if you stick for a month at 6.25mg.
