Tips and advice before starting

Hi can anyone offer their top tip or piece of advice they would give someone before starting? I'm nervous of side effects (not necessarily 💩 or nausea but the more extreme reactions requiring medical assistance) however I have tried several times this year to try again and the food noise just kills my willpower and I have 6 stone to lose.

My top tip is don’t worry about things that are extremely unlikely to happen, and just try it and see how you go. Remember that it’s the unusual extremes that get articles written about them and posts made about them. The thousands of people just getting along with no side effects don’t make for an interesting story!

I wish I had started drinking more water beforehand as I was so dehydrated in the first few days, but honestly its the best thing I have ever done!!

Franklyannoyed · 02/12/2025 21:41

Just eat clean and be hydrated, think there is over 50 million on them globally, the 200 odd deaths, not one linked to using a prescribed med correctly, all due to incorrect usage, ie taking too much or fakes. Even the nurse in Glasgow wasn’t due to the drug, she was very ill in the first place, sadly for her and her family, so I’d not worry,

all I'm saying that don't go all crazy buying an entire new wardrobe when you think you're close enough to your goal.

First post nails it 🖕

That's exactly the sort of thing I would be tempted to do 😬

Drink tons and tons of water
Limit alcohol
don’t stop and start for Christmas or birthdays or holidays

don’t tell everybody unless you want unsolicited and unscientific advice and comments

start exercising as soon as you can

it’s your own journey, don’t compare yourself ro others especially not those who lose superfast.

Lost 4 stone, 2 to go 🥳

I was a nervous wreck starting and had a panic attack every time I injected for the first 3 weeks. Here I am 12 weeks later not even thinking about it. It’s natural to be nervous but serious side effects are extremely rare.

I’ve been lucky not to have many side effects but my tips are to drink plenty of water, keep protein high, have some anti acids to hand in case of reflux or nausea. You may need constipation or diarrhoea meds but wait and see and treat accordingly. I’ve had constipation and duculox liquid is great.

Make sure you eat even if you have high suppression. I have a bag of protein meal replacement that I use when I struggle to eat.

Don’t compare yourself to others. Some are super responders from the start, others need to get up to higher doses to see results.

Good luck honestly it’s fine, you start on a half dose, 2.5 for a month, follow the advice, then you move up to the first therapeutic dose of 5mg, it’s a fantastic drug.

the first few times you inject it’s a bit nerve wracking, even though the needle is beyond tiny and irs painless, then it becomes natural, I barely even think about it now, I’m in maintenance, staying on 5mg and been on it about 18 months, I am so much healthier, look so much healthier and feel so much better, plus I like my appearance now.

HeidiLite · 03/12/2025 10:48

you don't necessarily need to go up in dose, I've lost pretty much all my weight on 2.5 and only went up a little very briefly. See how you respond.
