When did the 'concerned' comments start for you?

Am part way through my MJ Journey, having been a February Starter. Now don't get me wrong, i have lost a lot of weight (over 100lb) so far, so am looking very different to how i started - but i am by no means wasting away, looking dangerously thin or frail . In fact i have just dipped into a 25.7 bmi so just into a healthy weight for my height bracket.

Has anyone else had comments like this, that seem a bit ott ?
I get i look different, but am still 10 stone, so i don't think i would draw a look in a crowd, but over the past couple of weeks i seem to have had these comments and it is starting to grate a little bit - not one of these people commented when i was knocking on the door of 18 stone.

Do you think that with quite quick weight loss it takes a while to settle into your new size if that makes sense, or is it just people being a bit knobbish?

I'm around the same BMI, in the 25s. So technically overweight still. I have had people ask when I will stop, but in an intellectual way, and just checking I don't get carried away and lose too much, which I think is a sound thing to do. People can develop eating disorders, and I don't mind people asking/checking in. It shows they care about me. If they said they thought I should stop, that would be different.

Generally anyone who does comment on my weight loss and appearance is incredibly complimentary, and says how healthy and glowing I look. I do a lot of exercise, including weights and pilates, so I think I do look lean and healthy, rather than having the aged and deflated look some people might get with weight loss, and which might trigger concern in others

My sister lost 5 stone earlier this year on wli, and she looked and felt terrible, cold all the time , her was falling out, palpitations we were genuinely concerned for her health and she wasn't excessively thin by any means. She stopped them and is feeling much better, thank goodness, although she has put a little weight back on ..

I had a "how long have you been on mounjaro as you are so slim?" from the doctor and HCA today. I'm a BMI of 28 currently but a chunk of that is boob weight (36F), but even accounting for my shape, I'm still a fair bit overweight.

Hello bmi and boob twin! 👋

I must admit I had expected bra size to have dropped a bit more, width band has gone down from 40 but cup size still holding! (Been on wli just over a year)

I’ve lost nearly 2 stone and am now just over 10 stone and in the higher range of the healthy BMI scale.

I’ve seen people recently that I’ve not seen in a while for a work meeting. Some comments positive, more are questionable. Examples:

“you look fantastic”

“someone’s been on the skinny jabs”

“you’ve lost loads of weight”

“you don’t need to lose anymore”

”you’ve lost your bum”

“hopefully those last few pounds you want to lose will come off your tummy”

GladFatball · 05/12/2025 23:10

Ugh. Literally just had one this evening. Phrased like an intervention, telling me I had to "stop the diet" because if I lost more id "look anorexic". I'm still overweight. Actually a bit frustrating. Apart from anything else, I've not lost a single pound since I last saw this person.

mamabeeboo · 06/12/2025 07:39

@GladFatball wow that is incredibly rude!

People you work with said this to you??

Yep!

There was drink involved during the evening and so people became rather loose lipped!

I look back at photos of me before I lost weight and I must say I can really see WHY they might be surprised when they were used to the bloated sight of me. I looked so unhealthy. But when the comments like “I hope you’re not losing any more weight” or “You can’t afford to lose any more weight” start when you’re a very healthy size 10 and only a stone beneath the highest healthy weight for your height start, I find it so rude and infuriating because there is no way I look any worse than before. Maybe my face has aged, but do you know what I’ll bloody take that having being “fat” and judged all my life on my appearance anyway! Plus mid 40s were all going to age regardless. And I find it’s the lucky ones that have likely never had issues with their weight or been judged for being overweight that have the most to say.

They’re not the right method of weight loss for everyone, you’re right in that.

I sure hope you weren’t like the people mentioned on this thread that told your sister (who likely had weight/self esteem issues anyway to be on the jabs in the first place) that she looked terrible.

Are these comments coming from other people on the injections?

Thing is a fat body isn’t youthful, in fact as we get older it is very ageing, the fat tummy, matronly bust, wobbly thighs and bum. I am always surprised when people think a fat face is youthful. It’s not, it’s just a fat face, and it’s on top of a fat body, it is not a youthful look, who jist looks at someone’s face and not the body, no one. I have never ever looked at a fat person, myself included, and thought wow, being fat really knocks years off them, if it did, we’d all want to be fat.

but being a slim healthy weight does knock years off most people, a flat tummy, smaller bust, a waistline, slim lower half. We can all see the before and after images on line.

however obviously you need to lose weight in the right way, max 2lbs a week, make protecting muscle a priority, do strength training. And it neans when you hit goal, you don’t look saggy and wrinkly, too many focus on the number on the scale only.

however on saying that, I did have some wrinkly skin when I hit goal, not much, even though I worked hard, but I can honestly say after 7 months in maintenance it’s pretty much gone, apart from very minor on my upper arms, which I’m continuing to work on, it’s barely noticeable now though,

once weight stabilises as long as we then focus on body recomp, and did the work during the weight loss phase, it’s quick to see improvements, obviously much depends on genetics and how much you had to lose, and how long you were fat for though.

cherrycherryblossom · 07/12/2025 09:09

@Franklyannoyed you’ve hit the nail on the head with that post! Sadly there’s no hope for me regarding the old turkey neck with those last factors you mention - genetics, how long I was overweight for and how much I had to lose. I’ve probably been maintaining for nearly a year now with no improvement. However, it’s a cross I’ll just have to bear if it means I feel better in myself mentally and physically 😎

(Not to mention clothes shopping is so much more fun and enjoyable)

if you find clothes shopping fun it means you look great. It’s nice to dress how we please and not to hide.

you will see improvement, they say it can take up to two years.

but yeah, I never really get the ageing thing, I genuinely don’t think any one looks at us fat snd thinks wow how youthful does that make her look. If fat made us youthful we’d all be wanting to stay that way,

cherrycherryblossom · 07/12/2025 10:00

@Franklyannoyed yes I’ve heard it said “She looks so stout and matronly” or something along that lines and the connotations of that to me are old. Yet this stout and matronly person could lose a few stone, dress more appropriately for their age in a younger way but have it said they’ve really aged in the face. We really can’t win. I’ve been self conscious all my years (including childhood years) because of my weight, it’s very hard to shake that off and I doubt I ever will. But I am so much happier in my self this last year or so - more active, more sociable. Me and my neck and whatever else people would like to nitpick me on will take that and run!

outofofficeagain · 07/12/2025 10:05

I’m becoming increasingly annoyed about the whole thing. People are just so weird.

It seems you can look fat or old. Those are your only options.

it seems to me that fat people have been used by thinner people to make them feel better about themselves and they’ll continue to do that even if you’re no longer fat. I know loads of people who look old. Usually because they are old. Noone comments on it or suggests they do anything about it. They certainly don’t go round telling them to put on weight.

No, there's definitely a 3rd option, fat, old or 'had too much surgery'!

Franklyannoyed · 07/12/2025 10:14

I honestly think it’s just another way to have a go at people. Losing weight, getting healthy, being slim, is something to envy for a lot of people. And many carry deep levels of resentment and envy, so saying you look older is just a way to have a dig.

of course no one looks younger as they are fat. Everyone knows this. No one has ever said, god you’re so fat it knocks years off you. In the history of ever.

so it’s just more crap to have a go.
