Hi
so ive been on mounjaro for 4 weeks but have been splitting the dose for 3 of these, due to side effects. I have t lost much and don’t have much suppression so wondering about a new approach. I usually take 1/2 of the 2.5 on a Sunday and then the other 1/2 on a Wednesday or Thursday. Obviously this isn’t working for me. So I’m now thinking of taking 1/2 on the Sunday and the second 1/2 on the Monday….so the full dose in 24 hours just not all at once. Is anyone else doing the same? I know it’s not supposed to be split but I can’t function or go to work if I’m vomiting. Thank you xx

It may not be working for you just because you're on a low dose, but if you're getting side effects from that dose then you're better off working on your tolerance for it before worrying about actual appetite suppression. If I were you I would continue taking it as you are for another month and if you start being able to tolerate the drug then consider going up to 5mg. If 2.5mg isn't having a beneficial effect then it's not - playing about with the split ratio won't change that. But you can't go up to 5mg while you're experiencing those side effects.

In not sure putting more in your system in 24 hours will make you not vomit, can you help me understand your logic? If you’re vomiting in 1.25, a quarter of a dose, I’d suggest stopping.

She didn’t suggest going to 5, I think you misread,

I didn't misread at all. I responded with advice for her problem which is that 2.5 is not suppressing her appetite and therefore no weight loss is happening, but 2.5 also makes her feel sick. I advised that rather than tinker with splits to try to increase appetite suppression, she focuses on tolerating 2.5mg then she can move up to 5 and hopefully start seeing weight loss.
I'm sorry if my advice wasn't clear. But I can't see how injecting half x 2 over 24 hours will improve anything.

Did you only try the 2.5mg as a single dose and have issues vomiting that one time? Lots of people get side effects in the first week or so. They manage them by looking at the food they are eating or trying their local pharmacy for help to manage them.

Playing with split dosing at such an early stage when you have no idea what it is doing is just going to get you into a pickle, with no support from your provider and confused what to try next.

Be careful of listening to the self appointed arm chair pharmacists on social media suggesting split dosing or changing schedules when you are only just initiating treatment.

I personally don't tinker with doses as it's a prescription medication. However I wouldn't do two doses a week, maybe start with just half a dose every 7 days, then once you've done ok on that, move to 3/4 of the 2.5 and then you might get to 2.5.

I felt terrible on my first dose and remember crying as I felt so bad. But second dose onwards was ok. I have remained on 2.5 throughout and 5 stone loss is very close.

Take it easy and you'll get there!

If it’s doing nothing and you have to mess about with dosage so much I would stop taking it altogether tbh.

That said, what did you eat? Perhaps that contributed to the sickness, did you drink enough? Not doing so can also make you feel sick.

Have you considered wegovy? I've just moved over after 13.5 months on mj and it's so much better, mj made me exhausted and I had nausea some days, even after tapering doses. Wegovy is strong suppression but I have more energy, clearer mind and less zombie so more active. I haven't had any nausea either. I moved to 1.7 but I would suggest starting from bottom for you. The GIP in mj affects blood sugars so it could be that affecting you.

PearlTeapot · 29/11/2025 11:53

I would just take 1.25 only once a week for a few weeks while you get used to it. I did it for 4/5 weeks before I went up to 2, then 2.5. I still lose weight.

DON'T RUSH! I know you're probably desperate for it to work and to lose weight but it'll come. I started soooo slowly and in 6 months, with the slow start AND a month off half way through, I've lost 3.5 stone.

Hi all, thanks for the responses. I took the full dose the first time and had D and V thie next morning, so that’s why I have been splitting it. I know I can’t carry on doing that and it’s not meant to be taken like that. I may try again with the full dose and see how I go. It is weird as I feel lighter and less bloated but only 4ibs loss on the scales x

Again, what did you/had you eaten? Were you hydrated? One episode of D&V isn’t really enough for you to start messing with the dosage. You are far more likely to create problems not solve them by doing this.
