Is there one yet? If not, should this be it? I’m starting tonight, so officially November, but hey! Am so nervous, woke up early this morning with anxiety. Would love tips from anyone who has started before on what / how to eat on first few days..I’m really concerned about debilitating side effects- should you just listen to your body or force yourself to eat chicken?! I keep seeing all these insta posts about eating protein!!

Hi all, I'm new to thread, started on 5th December so 6 weeks in and ive lost 12lbs (10 of those in the first 2 weeks and only 2 in the last 4). Feeling frustrated at the 2lbs lost in 4 weeks despite being in a calorie deficit so decided ill go up to 5mg at my next review (I get my pens from local pharmacy). In light of this I decided I will take 1.5 dose this week and next using the golden dose - did the first week of that yesterday and definitely feel stronger suppression although have slight anxiety because ai told me I shouldn't have taken 1.5 doses.
Anyway question for you all - are you all tracking calories? I didn't for the first 2 weeks but have been since and averaging around 1600 calories - because thats what my tdee calculator told me too - I know I could eat less as I don't always wait until im actually hungry and it almost feels like im forcing myself to eat my allowance (brings back sw memories!). Do you think I should stop tracking for the next couple of weeks and actually listen to my hunger cues without worrying about the numbers instead?

Edited

How tall are you?
1600 is my max for maintenance.
More than this and I gain weight.
I'm 5ft 2in, 46 yrs old and seem to have a fairly slow metabolism.
To actively lose weight, I need to be eating between 1000-1200 kcal and day.

Hi, how much weight is the TDEE calculator saying you should lose on 1600? The thing with the TDEE is that it isnt necessarily accurate, eg if it says maintenance was say 1900, that might be too many for some so usually the way of doing it would be a bit of trial and error hence why sometimes people put on weight in the first week or 2 of a diet.

If you are logging and not losing on 1600 then I would personally still track but at say 1350 as that would be another 0.5lb a week loss on top of the 0.5 you are already losing. Tracking is good for seeing the macros, so ensuring your protein is high enough and carbs lower, I do 50% protein, 30% fat, 20% carbs.

I have logged from the beginning as I needed to as could hardly eat so it ensured I had enough. I have consistently lost 1.5-2.5 a week (more in 1st couple of weeks).

Appreciate your response and advice. TDEE was based on a 1lb a week but what you say definitely makes sense - these things will never be accurate for everyone will they. I'll go forward with your suggestion dropping to 1350 but continuing to track as I am a data driven person 😊

Im only 5"3 but SW waa 241lbs so I expect thats why my suggested calories are high. Definitely going to cut back over the next few weeks and hopefully have more luck

Elephanttrunk · 17/01/2026 19:15

I've just looked at the TDEE calculator a bit more and I had been putting myself as lightly active but perhaps I should be putting sedentary, I have an office/wfh job and do two 30 minute gym sessions a week but perhaps im kidding myself and this would be classed as lightly active! Thought I'd add it to the thread as it may help others in similar situations.

I always put sedentary, I was going to the gym 3 times a week but last 2 months has been inconsistent . 2 x 30 mins is probably the very minimum of lightly active according to those calculators and I reckon they over-egg it also as they can't possibly know what people are burning.

Hi I’m on my 4th week of 2.5 MJ.I’ve lost 12lb which is good but it’s just what I put on over Christmas really. I still can’t drink alcohol, I keep trying as all the other side effects have gone , but feel horrendous a couple of hours later after just 1 drink 😕
has anyone else had this and does it wear off?

Tammy214 · 18/01/2026 09:48

officially lost the first stone, felt good especially starting before xmas. One last 5mg injection before going to 7.5mg , current losing rate has gone from 1.25-5lb per week to 2-2.7lb so hoping that continues.
I havent started classes at the gym bascailly because been busy and have felt a bit fatigued with the jab, that and not eating enough.
i might struggle with food but wine is fine, more the pity lol. I dont religiously track food, mainly because i know i am not eating that much so its ok. i still keep track mentally of protien and have a shake if i am going to be low on it, takes the pressure off trying to force that down.

Elephanttrunk · 18/01/2026 12:36

I was ok with wine in December although not able to drink as much as usual - I nursed a large glass on a friday night rather than the whole bottle (which is definitely a good thing). I cannot tolerate fizzy drinks at all though since starting mounjaro

Gardener82 · 18/01/2026 12:36

How are people getting the extra dose out of their Mounjaro pens, could you please link what you are using to do it please.
When I tried on my last pen it wouldn’t turn enough to get much of the dose so I’m guessing people are using a different method?

Thanks, I just ordered the same, hope it goes well for you.

MrsTigerface · 18/01/2026 14:12

@Tammy214 , I am still able to chug the wine down, more’s the pity. We are on holiday atm and DH did say the other day that I seem to be drinking less. Mind you I also have an awful cold, so it could be that.

@Elephanttrunk , I have not done this yet but am going to watch the YouTube vids and have a go. My initial thoughts were that the process was far too complicated for me but then I thought well, this is MY expensive medication, which I have paid handsomely for, and the leftovers won’t be going in the bin without me at least trying. Good luck x

It honestly is much easier than I thought to do the golden dose. So worth it for the money you save for sure.

I must admit i have been drinking less and i drink slower, however i was secretly hoping i wouldnt care for it.😁

Florrieboo · 19/01/2026 02:07

My last dose was a golden dose and it was easy. I just inserted the sterile needle and extracted it from the pen. It was then no different to using the pen itself.
Thanks for all the support guys, I am gutted that I have to stop taking the medication because it is really working for me. I would have been due to take my 6th dose tomorrow and I am dreading the food noise coming back. I feel very low to be honest.

Frillysweetpea · 19/01/2026 09:40

Sending a hug to everyone who is having problems/having to stop for various reasons.

Foodylicious · 19/01/2026 18:29

Im really disappointed at having to stop.
I've not decided if this is a break or a total stop yet.
But im feeling quite a but better than I was.
I've not been able to eat much today today, but I'll admit it actually felt nice yesterday evening to feel 'normally hungry'. And to not feel quite as fatigued.
Today I don't know what's going on with my appetite/stomach.
Pretty sure I'm contipated again/still.
Ate a load of liquorice yesterday to no avail, and can't stomach any laxatives right now so not sure what's next!
I've managed a small bowl of weetabix mid morning and a biscuit this afternoon.
Going to see if I can maybe manage some tuna pasta or tuna on toast in a bit.
Can't tell if my stomach is unhappy or hungry.

ViciousChicken · 19/01/2026 21:42

I’m also sorry for those having to stop. Hope you can find something that works better for you.

I’ve had a bad week with diarrhoea combined with a cold / flu bug. I think the diarrhoea is possibly due to going up to 5mg 2 weeks ago - previously I’d been constipated but I’ve heard this can happen. I’ve been struggling to eat enough due to a combination of the above and feel the weight is coming off too quickly at the moment. (I was only bmi of 27 to start with so don’t have loads to lose and would rather it be steady.) So I’m going to drop back to 2.5mg for at least a week or two as that was working for me. I think I’ll still order a 5mg pen as it will work out cheaper counting the clicks from that. I’ll just order some extra pen needles. I’ve already got some insulin needles on order so I can get the golden dose as well. Hopefully my provider won’t mind me ordering slightly less often.

StrongGirlsLift · 20/01/2026 07:58

Oh gosh, people struggling, sorry to hear this! @ViciousChicken hope dropping back helps you settle.

Perhaps later than most, I hit my first target of 5kg loss today, mid week 8. I’m going up to 1mg on Wegovy this weekend. Another 4kg until I hit a healthy BMI, but probably 15kg to goal. Guess I’m in it for the long haul! Wonder if my loss will speed up on 1mg.

The Voy app keeps telling me it’s important to add weight/resistance training to prevent muscle loss. There’s no way to add exercise other than step count, so I can’t say “but I already lift heavy for 90-120 minutes a week!”

NSV - I can actually see some of the muscle definition in my arms now that it’s not hidden by soft cushioning 😅.

BelleEpoque27 · 20/01/2026 11:49

I'm also out, for now at least. I've had three episodes of fairly bad stomach pain (under my ribs, right and middle), and had lots of tests done. Bloods came back absolutely fine (so pancreas is not affected - in fact my levels are good) but I tested positive for h. pylori infection. So now I'm on antibiotics for that, and I suspect I have an ulcer - not caused by the Mounjaro, but possibly exacerbated by it due to slow digestive transit. I've had problems with heartburn and what I thought was IBS for a while so hopefully this might fix it.

GP said he advises everyone with stomach pain to come off Mounjaro until the cause is found. I'm hopeful I might be able to go back on eventually, but obviously very cautiously. I have health anxiety and the stomach pain has been really hard to deal with, so I don't want to do anything that might tip me over the edge as I have a history of breakdowns. In the meantime I'm going to try to keep eating as I have been (she says, with tirzepatide still in the system...) - I've lost 20 pounds since 1 December so it's been amazing even to get that off. My BMI is down from 41 to 37.9. I last weighed what I weigh now in 2021!

Best of luck everyone who is still going - enjoy that mental peace!

Elephanttrunk · 20/01/2026 14:42

Sorry to those who have had unmanageable symptoms and distress.
I had my first bad night since starting 6 weeks ago, we ate unusually late last night following a celebration and I had heartburn and upset stomach all night and have had the dreaded sulphur burps today. Ive stuck to bland food today and hoping a hot bath and an early night will help me get back to normal

ChristmasCalsDoCount · 20/01/2026 19:08

@StrongGirlsLift it will be my first 1mg tonight. Been slow and steady up till now 12lb down, hoping to make it to a stone by the end of Jan.
well done on your brilliant progress so far

cobblers00 · 20/01/2026 19:59

Yes, really sorry to see people drop out, but totally understandable.
I had h-pylori @BelleEpoque27for a while a few years back (& hiatus hernia) which eventually went after a few antibiotic treatments… had terrible digestive issues around that time & pretty sure the strong antibiotics didn’t actually help my gut biome. Have they ordered a camera down to check everything out? I now take symprove to help encourage a healthy gut & wonder if this put me in good stead to not have any major digestive side effects with mj- yet! Body definitely reacts if I over indulge, but it did before I was on medication too so… I hope everyone gets everything sorted anyway & can move forward in the best way for them. I’ve been lurking on another thread about dieting without WLI & it’s so depressing to hear the mental torture people endure when they try to lose weight without the medication. So unnecessary imo.
