6 months left out and used

Omg - I am freaking out, I’ve just used the wrong pen - and the one I have used has been out of the fridge for 5-6 months. What should I do?! I know I should have thrown it away…

I doubt you'll need to call a doctor. Is the remaining liquid in the pen clear, or is it cloudy with any bits in?

If it's clear, then it will likely be ineffective rather than actively harmful. If it's degraded a lot, you might get a reaction at the injection site. If you have any symptoms that worry you though, then obviously call 111 and ask them for advice.

Also, take the time now to sort out how you are storing and using pens. I keep my in use pens and any that are unopened in their boxes with the prescription label on. Each time I inject I double check that I have the correct pen with the correct date. Pens that are fully used up are disposed of, and I keep the boxes for proof of previous prescriptions if necessary.

I would try and do something to distract yourself for a while and hopefully any anxiety about it will dissipate.

I use a wee plastic case that has space for the oen, 4 needles and some swabs. So I only ever use the pen thats in there. When it's empty, pen goes in the bin and next one gets put in, and needles filled up.
