Mounjaro Dosage Guidance

NikkiRiverFree · 24/11/2025 21:08

Dear All,
I have lost 3 stones with Mounjaro but because of the pricing crease I had to stop six weeks ago because I simply couldn't afford it anymore. I have only gained three pounds but I'm worried that I am going to regain all of my weight especially in the run-up to Christmas and New Year.
Can anyone tell me if I am able to buy a higher dose pen and use it for eight weeks instead of four by only injecting half of the dose each week? I understand that this is not ideal but this is the only way that I am going to be able to go back on it and still afford it too. Many thanks in advance for any advice 🙂

Technically you can, but you have to order regularly to stay on it so by ordering only every 2 months you may fall foul of that.

It will depend on the provider and what your last prescription was.

Hiya, theoretically yes you can do that, however most suppliers don’t sell you a higher dose pen unless you work up to it. As they can’t support you using the pens off prescription( although I think most of them acknowledge people do!

so because you’d be back on a starting dose you would need to work back up to higher dose pens (not necessarily increasing the dose) so you’d have to start with a 2.5 then a 5 then a 7.5 etc. theoretically you can buy those but keep taking 2.5 to make them last longer!

hope that makes sense!

I empathise! I’ve got 2x 15mg pens left and am desperately trying to eke them out as really can’t afford any more but still have 3 st to lose!

Thank you everyone

Lots of us are doing this but the gap is the issue. If you approach a couple of providers and explain the situation in terms of stopping but now regaining they might let you start on a dose that’s not 2.5 depending on where you stopped but I think most would want you to go back to that. They cannot sanction sub-dosing as it’s against guidelines so don’t mention this. Your current BMI will also be a factor - you might be better trying a pharmacy you have a history with. And plan ahead for the next pen if you are successful - eg order sooner even if not finished first, some offer spreading out payments now.
