I’ve been on mj for 15/16 months and have lost about 1/3 of my hair.

Has anyone found anything that truly works? Given in and cut it all off? Found it changes over time?

id say it has slowed down now, but it doesn’t seem to be growing back.

I try and take biotin, collagen and hit my protein goals at least half of my days.

I’ve been around goal for the last few months and haven’t lost particularly quickly (6st in 15 months) and my bmi is 20-22ish.

I’m wondering about getting quite a hard chop and whether when I start my proper taper (I’ve spaced doses out at times but only dropped from 15 to 12.5, biggest gap being 9/10 day) things will start growing back?

I am 43, so hormones might be playing a part as well. I wouldn’t say I am peri yet, but probably heading towards it!

Any advice, thoughts, experiences, solidarity greatly appreciated!

I am lucky that I had a lot of hair, but my ponytail looks sad.

My situation with MJ is quite different in the fact that I’ve lost 5 stone in around 6 months but my hair loss has been quite bad! I only got up to 7.5 mg and have two weeks left of 5mg and will be stopping… it does seemed to have slowed the hair loss but I have been oiling it every day with olaplex (which seems to have made the biggest difference) and being very very gentle with it. From what I’ve researched there isn’t a huge amount you can do other than hitting your protein and supplementing with biotin and collagen but you need to be strict with those for it to have any effect… especially the protein! I would make that priority whilst you taper x

Is there a specific olaplex you are using? Sorry to hear you’re also struggling!

Are you avoiding carbs? That makes my hair fall out. It stops falling out as soon as I eat carbs again.

FurForksSake · 18/11/2025 17:51

No, not particularly. I don’t eat many sandwiches but I just had two small tortillas for dinner.

i don’t have any answers to this but after 18 months on MJ the hair loss has stopped but my hair is definitely thinner.

CriticalCritter · 18/11/2025 19:54

Yep - I take the Beauty Pie hair supplements and my hairdresser can’t get over how much new hair I have!

DHT blockers might help e.g. pumpkin seed and/or saw palmetto supplements and use a shampoo with caffeine. Head and shoulders have an anti-hair fall shampoo with caffeine.

FurForksSake · 23/11/2025 10:26

Pumpkin seed! That’s an omega isn’t it? I think k bought omega capsules with it in for my hair and then forgot and haven’t taken them.

thanks, will look out the shampoo. I’m currently using head and shoulders bare.

Im not a nutritionist/scientist but think that, from what I've read, there's usually enough omega 6 and 9 in the average person's diet and too much can be inflammatory. Focus on omega 3. DHT is the big culprit for androgenic alopecia so reducing that is key to fixing hair loss. Pumpkin seed and saw palmetto both reduce DHT.

Popcornandbeetroot · 23/11/2025 12:44

I was going to mention the pumpkin seed oil & saw palmetto, the one I got also has zinc, also increased protein and collagen has helped & biotin. I think by the time I reach my goal BMI 50% of my calorie intake will be from supplements 😬
I also eat a very healthy diet, protein fruit veg & as wide a variety as possible. Hair loss is better but not completely stopped, I think it will probably take a couple of years of maintenance to regrow (hopefully)
Im not a fast looser, 1-2 lb a week sometimes less, never more than that .
OP I hope you find a solution for you hair loss, I think I’m happy to justify it myself as my health has improved both physically and mentally on MJ, I am very active now, I feel like my brain is functioning as it should and my inflammation has disappeared. I no longer take BP meds and I was probably heading towards T2 diabetes. All blood work shows I’m in good health. I will stay on MJ for life probably as the benefit to me is beyond weight loss. I never realised prior to taking this medication that Food noise was a thing - until it wasn’t there anymore, it’s like having a massive weight lifted off your shoulders and being able to live life normally, it’s lovely 🥰

I know it’s dark, but I do wonder if people would think I’m mad talking about hair loss. It’s just it gets everywhere and my pony tail is literally half the thickness. It’s a frizzy bush of a thing and I’m so self conscious.
