40 days or 5 weeks 5 days until Christmas beating the plateau

My weight loss has always been slow, now feels glacial. For the past week, I have gone back to basics and am tracking everything I am consuming. I aim to have between 1600 and 1500 calories per day. I think I should go lower but will try this for now. I'm swapping from healthy eating to counting calories to hopefully kick start things.

Hopefully others will find an encouragement thread helpful.

For my next goals, I would like to lose 10.5lbs. I will start regularly doing 5000 steps per day from next week.

Do you drink? My recent plateau lasted 10 weeks and only broke when I stopped drinking (max 4 glasses Prosecco over a weekend) - no idea if that was the cause but it was the only change!

@SquirrelandPanda I think you have hit the nail on the head. I have lost 3.5 stone and would like to lose 2 stone more. For me, calorie intake is a very fine balance.

My calorie counting was a bit lax, however I didn't over indulge massively. I track my weight using my scales and I think four alcoholic drinks over the weekend is enough to halt weight loss.

Rather than guessing, I'd recommend calculating your TDEE and minus 500 from it for your calories Then you'll know for sure.

When I hit a plateau for about 3 weeks I upped my exercise to kick start it.

Good luck!

I thought op meant that all calorie counting is a bit of a guessing game.

RickertyRocker · 16/11/2025 18:24

Well that explains it. Depressingly my TDEE is 1550 calories. I suspect because of under active thyroid is is maybe even a bit lower.

I'm going to plan for 1200 or 8400 over the week.

I have never had the suppression people have mentioned and have lost very slowly. On the bright side, I could maintain at 1500 to 1600 calories long term.
