When did appetite suppression kick in?

For me it was the second day week 5 (the day after I took my 1st dose of 5mg)

My hairdresser said she lost her appetite one hour after her first dose of 2.5!

DSIL said 3 days into week one

Friend’s husband said he’s never really felt a suppressed appetite, but he’s on 7.5 now and has lost 1.5 stone.

It’s so different for everyone. I had suppression almost immediately after my first injection, I did it after breakfast and then lost all interest in lunch and dinner. Totally surprised me as I was expecting a gradual build up.

KitsyWitsy · 09/11/2025 17:44

In 2 hours.

PurpleCoo · 09/11/2025 17:47

It depends on how you define suppressed.

Reduced appetite and going off sweet/fatty/greasy food, but still hungry at meal times/after exercise - 1 hour

Complete loss of appetite. Never! Started in February

DottyMcDiet · 09/11/2025 17:47

Pretty much straightaway for me.

weericky · 09/11/2025 17:50

Straight away, as in I couldn’t eat very much for the rest of the day. So don’t have high suppression now though. I hated it so have chosen to stick with 2.5mg so I can still feel those hunger cues and want to eat

I’m almost at six months in and haven’t had any appetite suppression yet. I’m about to go onto a 10mg pen. I’m currently taking 4mg every 4 days in the hope that I might get some, but nope. For the first few months I got a bit less food noise, but that is creeping back. I’ve lost just under 3.5 stones, but I’ve had to use a lot of willpower and make good decisions too. Starting to wonder if I’m wasting money and should try it alone (although I’ve à stockpile of pens in the fridge anyway).

About 4 months in!

I'd love to know why people react in such different ways! Surely someone is doing a clinical study?

NikkiPotnick · 09/11/2025 22:38

For me it was day 2. Whether that was physical or mental I don't know.

Me too! I wondered if we only hear from the Straight Away people on here so keen to hear from everyone.

Straight away for me, I took it before bed and woke up not hungry which is a very unfamiliar feeling for me.

However it didn't last, about 7 weeks or so before I could eat normally again (which is fine by me)

FlutteryButterfly · 10/11/2025 18:41

Immediately after my 1st 2.5mg. Im on my 3rd pen and so far have only upped to 5.

Frenchfrychic · 11/11/2025 06:59

I’m not sure, I went on an immediate diet, I was excited to start and determined to get the weight off. What was clear was the drugs had s very quick therapeutic effect on me, my stomach started shrinking back very quickly and my ankles loosened up, so all the inflammation went within two weeks.

I didn’t struggle ri maintain my diet, but if I am totally honest on appetite suppression , I don’t know if it was the drugs immediately kicking in, as in within a day, or if it was a placebo effect, as the brain is a complex thing.

SlipperyLizard · 11/11/2025 07:08

I got really strong suppression on day 1, but looking back I think that was placebo effect/my normal diet “switch” activating at the same time.

My diet “switch” is now well & truly off, luckily I’m around my target weight. I’m on 5mg, I think I’ll stay on this as it curbs my worst excesses (and is still making my desire for alcohol less) but allows me to enjoy food when I want to.

ShrankLastWinter · 11/11/2025 07:29

I’ve always hungry for mealtimes, so it depends what you mean by suppression. But from day 2 I felt fuller quicker and like it was much easier to choose the healthiest options.
