Lower Mood on Jabs

Noverium · 06/11/2025 09:33

I have type 2 bipolar and whilst depressed always pile on the pounds. I am currently depressed and have gained 2 stone. So I thought I would give the jabs a try. Trouble is I am 3 weeks in and my mood seems to have lowered even more.
So I am wondering if others have noticed an effect on mood?

Not to hijack your thread but I am interested in this myself.
Would like to try it myself but as a depressive, I would rather be overweight than relapsing.

I don’t have a history of depression, but found myself becoming very depressed whilst taking the jabs, I started in June and came off them last week after my doctors advice.
i’m a mental health professional so knew that this wasn’t usual for me, I know lots of people that take them and don’t have this as a side-effect but it’s worth bearing in mind I guess and consulting with your Doctor.

From day 1 it's affected my energy, motivation and mood, 13 months on now 3lbs away from target so I carry on. I've raised and lowered my dose and it's worse on the higher doses. It is known to disrupt dopamine. Also low blood sugar and calories can cause these symptoms.

I’ve been on them a year and I’m thinking of coming off as my mood has been very very low and I’d never connected it to the jabs because I care for a severely disabled child. But the dark moods have been very low along with thoughts about hurting myself.

Please come off them if they are affecting you this much. I don't know if wegovy would be any better, 2 more doses and ill try wegovy as I've also had hair loss.
I've had a severe anxiety and panic attack last week in response to a difficult situation. I'm currently off work with stress. But I have also felt this before in my life 12 years ago, so I can't say its specifically the mounjaro.
I do feel exhausted all the time which is only since starting on mounjaro

I have a tendency to low mood which I've learned how to cope with over the years but I'm bringing my 9 months on Mounjaro to an end now because right from the beginning it has made my mood worse than usual. I'd love to stay on it. I've lost 4 stone, I'm at a normal weight after a 40 year struggle with obesity but in the process it has drained my energy and motivation to do anything. My diet is really healthy now, high veg and protein with very little ultra processed food and in the past eating well has had a really positive effect on my mood so it feels weird that this low mood and lack of motivation to do anything has never lifted. I've tapered down over the last couple of months from 10 mg to 2.5 and I've probably got enough for a 2 and a 1.5 dose then I'm done. I'm still losing , probably about half a pound weekly and although food noise is perhaps more noticeable, I'm still making healthy food choices and not snacking..I'm a little apprehensive about weight gain but I really want to see if there's any change in my mood once it's out my system.
On balance, I'm glad I persevered as all other aspects of my health have improved massively. I just feel a bit envious of those who found it totally resolved their pre-existing anxiety/low mood conditions.

Have you felt better coming down the doses?

Have you felt better coming down the doses?

Not noticeably. I've noticed that I don't feel nauseous any more but mood and energy seem the same. I tapered down more to give me time to adjust to suppression disappearing. I do 16:8 which means I only eat between 12 and 8 pm and I prioritise protein and food quality. I also track that I'm eating at least 30 different plants a week and eat only half the amount of bread, rice, potatoes, pasta etc that I used to. Protein, veg and healthy fats I eat freely. I lost 4 stones about 8 years ago which I kept off doing similar but my weight refused to go any lower and I was starting to slip into binge eating again and developing horrendous acid reflux, so Mounjaro solved all that and took that last four stone off to reach a weight in the normal range. I've got rid of all my 18/20s and have bought a new wardrobe of 12/14s hoping that too will keep me from relapsing.
The effect on my mood was noticeable right away at 2.5 on Mounjaro so I'm hoping that it's a case of it needing to be right out my system before I'll see any positive changes in mood. Surely eating so well must improve my mood. 🤞
