Not using the pen

I think the way you have to inject is ridiculously complicated so Ive bought insulin syringes from Amazon. This was initially to take the golden dose but found it so much more simple to inject than the pen.
Has anyone used these syringes to administer each dose?

What do you find "complicated", it can be a bit stiff at times to push the plunger back down, but otherwise it is more straight forward than a syringe.

ThirdStorm · 05/11/2025 16:42

Please be careful as most of what is sold on Amazon is not sterile. I use a syringe as I take 3mg and definitely found it easy, but then the standard way with the screw on needle heads and plunger is also easy.

SilenceInside · 05/11/2025 16:48

I use a syringe for a fifth dose from the leftover medication. It is not really easier than using the pen imo. You need to do more steps and you have the additional possibility of making a mistake with the dose amount and potentially giving yourself a bigger dose than you intend. You can't do that with the pen as you can't go beyond the 1 position. It is smoother to press down on a syringe than via the pen mechanism which can be a bit stiff I suppose.

Of course you can do this if you really do prefer it, but it seems unnecessary to me.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 05/11/2025 18:01

The one is very simple to use but I have used syringes instead for a couple of pens that have been very stiff to use but no way on earth would I use ones from Amazon!

Mysticmaiden · 05/11/2025 19:09

If you want syringes try an online pharmacy like SHD medical or UKmedi at least then you know they are sterile and designed for human use.
Syringes will be less accurate as its an eyeballing method of checking the fluid level than clicks, which is measured and calibrated thus validated. I only use them for the last bonus dose.

MeridaBrave · 05/11/2025 20:52

I was worried about repeatedly piercing the plug, and infection risk.

ChocolateBoxCottage · 05/11/2025 22:04

I find the syringes more painful. The pen is much easier. If I count clicks I do this in tens and use my fingers to make sure I did it right ( I.e doing 5mg from a 7.5mg pen)

weericky · 05/11/2025 22:26

What on earth is ridiculously complicated’ about screwing a needle on to then twisting a pen? My mind boggles it really does.

One full turn of the dose knob is 20 clicks and the 0 (or when you hit 40 another little notch) lines up under the window. Or I count once and mark the spot with a ballpoint pen for next time.

Flowers8989 · 05/11/2025 22:57

Eh? You literally twist it to 1 and push...

PumpkinTwistyWindToots · 06/11/2025 13:18

Erm no?? I had a faulty pen and had to use syringes for all the doses and I was fuming because the syringe needles are longer and the whole thing is a faff, compared to the incredibly simple quickpen. What on earth are you doing to make it complicated?

PearlTeapot · 06/11/2025 13:37

I couldn’t find it easier to use the one? Screw needle on, turn the clicks, insert.

I do the 5th dose with a syringe and it’s much more of a faff.

macandcheeseforthewine · 06/11/2025 15:54

I get what you mean op. I look forward to the bonus dose, as I find the syringe easier. Easier to push in etc. I wouldn't use it for the whole pen though!

Rumpledandcrumpled · 06/11/2025 16:25

What are you doing that you find it so complicated?

also buy your syringes from a pharmacy , plenty online, the ones on Amazon are for animals

dizzyupthegirl86 · 15/11/2025 08:00

I inject in my arm, and for that I use syringes as I find the pen really cumbersome - it sounds a bit silly but reaching across your body with one arm to reach your other one means you end up gripping the pen in a strange way and it’s hard to get your hand in the correct position to ‘plunge’ all in one go.

I also find I can get skin reactions using the 4mm needle on the pen so a longer needle is better for me.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 26/11/2025 06:20

I have used syringes when a pen has been particularly stiff to use but I would never use ones from Amazon!

frozengrapes1 · 27/11/2025 10:58

Has anyone noticed that the 5th dose has disappeared/gotten smaller? I've noticed this with the last two Wegovy pens at least. Just a little bit left over after the 4th dose.

My understanding is that Wegovy never had a golden dose, just a few drops left over - when I was thinking of switching that was a common discussion point that cost per pen was for 4 jabs rather than the 5 you could have with MJ (if you Golden dosed).

But you're piercing the plug whichever way you do it?

Piercing the plug is fine, they self seal and are tested to have thousands of piercing.
