Is it confirmed that jabs are for life?

Hi

I posted here a year or so ago thinking of trying this but I had a terrible experience with Saxenda so decided against it

Still big have lost about 5lb

over the last year, it looks like you have to take it forever

Reconsidering you guys will understand,. I feel like being fat is a problem in every walk of life.

But that's an expense that has to be paid forever, isn't it?

I lost 3.5 stone on MJ. Stopped taking it last November, at goal weight. I have maintained the loss since then, and can’t see any reason I won’t be able to maintain going forward. So it depends I guess!

Newyeargymwanker · 31/10/2025 17:41

I’m about to move to maintenance after also loosing 3.5stone, I’m going to titrate down slowly. It took four months to loose the weight, so I imagine titrating down for at least four months, maybe longer? And then if I can’t handle it off monjaro, I’ll swap to a cheaper one and stay on it for as long as it needs to maintain.
people take life long medication for all sorts of reasons, mine may be fatness.

StrongLikeMamma · 31/10/2025 17:41

I’m hoping to change my habits that got me here in the first place.

RoundandSad · 31/10/2025 17:41

@DingDongJingle that's really good

I looked at the threads where people are coming off it and a lot of them are eating not very much and still gaining weight again after they come off it

I can actually see why that would happen because it does seem to change how your body works. It has an effect on your blood sugar doesn't it?

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear more from people. I don't like the idea of lifelong medication as well as the cost

I've had a lot of stress this summer and many day I've only eaten a meal in the evening it's made hardly any difference it's like nothing I do makes a difference. I can't eat a lot in one go anyway.

RoundandSad · 31/10/2025 17:42

I'm really interested to hear from people who stopped for a good few months not just tapering off

Of course all this will mean I'll have to try and see if I don't get horrible side effects like saxenda never been so ill in my life

OP posts:
SpottyAardvark · 31/10/2025 17:43

Of course not.

The purpose of the drugs is that they are a tool to help you lose weight & get down to a healthy weight. They also give you the space to change your attitude to food and establish healthy eating & exercise habits which will allow you to maintain that healthy weight without drugs.

I’m hoping to change my habits that got me here in the first place.

My habits changed completely in the last 18 months

There's lots of things I don't even like the taste of anymore

Scales don't though

If you told me last year, I could go all day till dinner time I wouldn't believe you so that's a big deal only led to 5 lb weight loss!

Thelankyone · 31/10/2025 17:44

People don’t gain weight on air op. To gain weight you need to consume more than you burn off, the jabs don’t change our bodies. The basics stay the same, eat less than you burn, lose weight, eat more, gain it. No one is gaining in a defecit. No one.

are the drugs for life, for some, yes, for others no, will they gain weight when they stop, sure, like any other diet. Nearly everyone regains because people can’t keep to their cal allowance.

StrongLikeMamma · 31/10/2025 17:45

I guess if you expect to put a bit more on, you could leave yourself a margin. So I would like to weigh between 10.5/12 st - so thinking I’ll go down to 10 if possible then leave myself a margin. If that makes any sense.

FlowersFawb · 31/10/2025 17:46

I don't plan to be on it for life. I find it quite odd when people say that tbh. I've lpst 6 stone since January and hit my goal weight today of 11 stone. I am tapering off and will be done in January 26. I think the jabs are a tool but people should be able to maintain weightloss with better habits.

RoundandSad · 31/10/2025 17:46

My neighbour has lost 2 1/2 stone really fast she seems to be eating in a similar way to me only one meal in the evening she's loving this medication, but she had no side-effects

Why odd? I will be on it for life or till something better comes along. Why wouldn’t I if I can easily afford. I’m on a 5mg maintenance dose, maintained my weight for six months now, don’t have any struggles with food, maintaining easily, I don’t spend my life consumed with food noise, stress about rhe scales, being hungry, feeling guilty, dieting etc, and I ger all the other health benefits. Cardio vascular, kidney, liver, lack of inflammation, blood sugar and insulin managed correctly, reduction in some cancers, and likely even dementia.

why on earth would I come off?

Why are on earth have you got so worked up...its just an opinion.

JohnTheRevelator · 31/10/2025 17:55

I'm not yet at my target weight but I stopped using Mounjaro 3 months ago due to financial reasons. I'm still at the same weight I was when I stopped using it.

TheChosenTwo · 31/10/2025 17:57

Another one wondering what’s odd about it @FlowersFawb I plan to stay on it as long as they’ll let me.
Ive got insulin resistant PCOS and this has finally redressed my hormonal balance - given me what my body wasn’t doing naturally. In the same way that other medications will provide something to someone that their body can’t do for itself like thyroid medication or diuretics to aid with heart failure, or insulin for diabetics. Would you also think these people were odd to wish to take their medication long term? I find THAT odd tbh!

While there will be plenty of people who can and will go it alone after MJ, either keeping the weight off or regaining, I don’t plan on coming off them.

Wowzel · 31/10/2025 17:58

I stopped in August and have gained no weight back at all. I lost 20 percent of my body weight

I’m not worked up lol, but why do you find it odd, the fact you attacked rather than answered why you find it odd, is telling. I find it odd that anyone who reacts well to the drugs, can afford it, would want to come off.

No, I'm diabetic myself and take insulin along side mounjaro so understand perfectly. It was an opinion. I don't expect to be hounded about it.

Most people casually say 'I'll be on it for life' not even knowing if their pharmacy will allow such a thing.

I'm a big believer in MJ it has done wonders for my weight and my blood sugars so don't come for me!!

Well it’s approved for life time usage by the regulatory authorities and most peiple know if they are with a pharmacy who supports maintenance, or move to one which does, no one is an idiot really.

again, why is it odd?

Zempy · 31/10/2025 18:23

I have lost five stone this year on MJ. I am titrating down now and in maintenance. I suspect that I will pile the weight back on if I stop taking it.

Filigreecurtain · 31/10/2025 19:35

If I could afford to stay on it for life I would, it's simultaneously calmed my adhd, stopped my alcohol addiction, soothed inflammation, as well as the weight loss, it's criminal that this drug is only for the well off. I can't afford it any more so my behaviour has now tipped into eating disorder territory whereby I'm severely restricting food, and obsessing about every mouthful, I'm underweight and petrified of putting the weight back on. If I could take an affordable weekly 5 ml dose and go about my day I'd be happy, this drug is so much more than weight loss.

PlaceIntheClouds · 31/10/2025 19:49

It depends if you have any willpower or not.

Basically the jabs stop you from wanting to eat. As soon as you stop injecting yourself you are down to the power of your mind alone.

The problem is most people have learned nothing about good nutrition or willpower whilst taking the jabs.

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/10/2025 20:01

Its useful to understand what Mounjaro does and how it works, because on all of these kind of threads I see lots of misinformation about how it just stops you being hungry, which isnt the full picture.

it mimics two natural hormones in your body — GLP-1 and GIP the effect of this is:

• Improves insulin response: It helps your pancreas release insulin when needed and makes your body more sensitive to it. This prevents your body storing the excess sugar as fat.
• Lowers sugar production: It stops your liver from making too much sugar.
• Tells your brain you’re full: It sends signals that make you feel like you’ve just eaten, helping reduce hunger and cravings.
• Slows digestion: Food stays in your stomach longer, so you feel full for more time.

Its also interesting that studies show that weight re-gain following stopping Mounjaro is the same as weight gain following significant loss by any other method - gastric bypass/sleeve, calorie counting, keto, atkins, slimming world………

My situation is slightly different, I take Mounjaro because I’m diabetic and a combo of insulin and metformin wasn’t doing the job, Mounjaro however has been miraculous in reducing my sugar levels and I’ve lost 6 and a half stone. I’ll keep taking it for as long as they let me.

SwirlyShirly · 31/10/2025 20:01

I am only on lowest dose of Wegovy - titrating up this weekend. I have lost about 10lbs in the last 4 weeks. I’d like to lose another 2.5-3st for a total loss of 17st overall. I don’t know if I will be able to do it due to the amount of loose skin and lipodema tissue I have, but I plan to stay on it as long as I can afford to because of the other positive ‘side effects’ I have noted. On top of the weight loss, I haven’t drank any alcohol at all, and that was getting to be a bit of a problem pre-jab. I’ve had fleeting cravings, but they have been fairly easy to ignore.
