Anyone else stopping due to how aging losing weight is?!

I just wanted to see where everyone is drawing a line on taking wli (unless maintaining) as I have recently stopped after losing 2 stone.

I originally stopped in October last year at a bmi of 24.5 but then restarted in March as I had put on 2kgs, I feel in hindsight this was irrational.

I am now at a bmi of 24 and stopped a month ago as I felt it was really starting to age me. I’m now happy being between 24-25.5 and a size 12.

All the collagen in the world won’t prevent the loss of volume in the face that is associated with wli, and I look at photos 3 years ago and think how much better I looked with more padding in the face.

I just wondered how people are balancing losing weight and being at a lower bmi against the effect that it has on how you look? It’s been quite alarming in my case, and I don’t want to go down the route of fillers/ Botox but it’s that age old thing of solving one problem but creating another!

I lurk on the Reddit Mounjaro uk threads and 95% of the time people look unrecognisable, and so much younger and healthier. Yes, skinnier faces but such good colour and sparky eyes!

How does weight training help with the face?

Just look at people who work out into old age.. well all ages.. they have really nice structured faces because there are muscles all over the face, head and neck.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/10/2025 09:08

When I reached goal weight 6 months ago I definitely looked more my age. When I was overweight I got taken for a decade younger.

now 6 months later with exercise and increased energy my face/neck has bounced back and attached itself to the muscles (ditto upper arms and stomach which looked wrinkly when I reached goal).

at bmi 21 I look and feel great.

Confusedasnormal · 29/10/2025 10:43

I’ve name changed as this is so very outing, but so glad you started this thread.

WTF is going on with my face. I’m 46 and 3 stone 2 down and the same to go again and I look like my Nanna.

I don’t want to smile because my cheeks look like a handbag. I’m taking all the supplements, upped my skincare game and I’m drinking so much water I’m floating…

I’m really hoping it settles a bit, it’s obviously down to fat loss in my cheeks, but bloody hell!

Are you dehydrated and what is your skin care regime? How much alcohol do you drink a week and is your diet healthy, as in are you eating enough fruit and veg, and taking liquid collagen?

by contrast I’m a decade older and this is taken just now. After over six stone loss. I have some light make up on. I am fully hydrated,I’ve light wrinkles as to be expected. I use retinol, hyralonic acid and moisturise. My face before I lost weight was very puffy and fat with double chins.

@LaurieFairyCake I’m the same BMI and agree that it’s a good place to be, I wouldn’t want to go any lower.

FoxRedPuppy · 29/10/2025 11:49

Blimey, don’t not smile because of your face. Literally everyone looks better smiling! You aren’t going to lie on your death bed and wish you’d spent less time smiling and worrying about your face!

Nobody ages badly, we just all age. I’m say it again, getting old is a privilege.

As to skin care, I don’t do any. I wash my face with Dove soap in the shower and that’s it!

Honestly nobody looks that closely that other peoples faces. And if they do they are cunts and don’t deserve your time!

CatFinderGeneral · 29/10/2025 11:53

It’s strange to say, but I think being thin suits some people, and not others. I do really think that people have to find what works for them. Some slim women look glamorous, and others look too thin, androgynous. Some plump / overweight women look attractive and full of life, others not.

For myself, at 12 stone I am still somewhat moon – faced. Losing another stone would probably “do it“.

My skin care is pretty good, copper peptides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and retinol only where needed as well as super sunscreen.

I also take collagen biotin and hyaluronic acid acid daily.

I do genuinely think it’s fat loss in my cheeks and I don’t have strong cheekbones which doesn’t help.

I was being a bit tongue in cheek saying I don’t want to smile, life’is too short not too!

Cheek bones are key they are like the coat hangers for our faces. I think once your weight stabilises, it will tighten up. Our skin always takes longer than the fat .

Micnder · 29/10/2025 13:21

I'm fairing well I think, iv lost 6 stone and my face 100% looks better now.

I have Botox though an d I have for years even though I'm 35 so I dont have any deep set wrinkles! I also use tret and have for years.

GAJLY · 30/10/2025 08:58

Yes my friend is on it. She looked great until she got so thin last month, that her face has aged. She now has very deep lines on her cheeks going down to her mouth. It reminds me of my grandma when she forgot to eat in her old age. My husband didn't know about her weight loss journey but asked me last week what happened to make her look so old? It's a bit of a shock as she is young but her face has aged her 10 years. I think she's best off stopping, to try and save her face.

StrongLikeMamma · 30/10/2025 09:05

Sorry haven’t read whole thread - is there a magic product we should be using (Not Botox and fillers) ??

How can you husband not know she’s lost weight but comment she looks so old. Has he never met her before ? And is he always so pass remarkable about women’s appearance?

CatsorDogsrule · 30/10/2025 09:24

I wonder if it's largely down to genetics? I'm also 46 and have lost 7.5 stone. I only use very basic skincare like supermarket moisturiser, nothing fancy. No serums, beauty treatments or botox, etc. I'm BMI 20.

I’m 63 and aiming for 80kg which would put my BMI at 25.1, just in to the ‘overweight’ category. But the recommended weight for my height - oof! I was that weight when I met my husband and was a size 10 at 5’11”! It was difficult to maintain. I did it by walking three miles to work, doing exercise videos three nights a week and not eating much. Not sustainable. I’ll be a size 14 I reckon at 80kg rather than 69kg and that’s fine - I’m not looking to be a bikini model I just want to get healthier!

Hi @mondaytosunday I'm 55 and am also 5'11" with the same goal! How far through your journey are you?

I think yes genetics, facial structure, but also diet and lifestyle.

Of the women in my friendship group I’d say our skin is all fairly similar, apart from one, where she does have a lot of wrinkles and poor skin tone, but she does drink a lot, and her diet is lacking in key nutrients, she’s not big into fruit and veg and she has an eating disorder, she’s both restricts and binges, then throws up and as lovely as she is, it has taken its toll on her.

You don’t really focus on it, but for example if we are swimming and she’s make up free, hair wet and slicked back, you can see she has a lot of deep wrinkles, a lot more than she should at her age.

My husband knew she's been losing weight but not that she's on these injections. I didn't tell him that part. He said she looks great losing weight these past 6 months, she was obese before. Although her journey started a few years ago. It's a natural thing to observe and comment on. Suddenly she looks so thin, her face has aged, my husband thought it strange as we are the same age. She now looks 10 years older. I think when someone has changed significantly in some way it is normal to notice and comment. That is the way people are. You seem very offended by that?!

I lost a lot of weight in my 40s - no slack skin etc. I'm doing the same - slowly in my mid 60s. I'm not going to get away with it this time. Arms are fine. Don't ask about the inner thighs... I fear for what the belly is going to be like.

I've said it before on here but here goes.

Maybe what you're seeing is the face that your lovely friend was always meant to have at her age. You hadn't seen it before because it was artificially inflated with excess fat.

All this faux concern about 'going too far' with the weight loss and emotive words like 'gaunt' and 'haggard' that get thrown around on here - that's someone's actual face! A person you allegedly love and care about and you're on here basically calling her ugly.

I don't know where you've got those words from, but they weren't from me??! No bad words were used to describe her face, just that she's rapidly aged by 10 years. What I said is factual, and nothing else. I did not call her ugly. I'm sure my friend knows her face has changed as she has mirrors. I'm observing her rapid weight loss and she seems too thin as it's now affecting her face. 3 months ago she looked thin with her younger face, which tells me if she stops the injections, she'll get that fat back on her face. You seem very defensive as if this thread is about you!

Jealous?! I'm happy for her because she's worked so hard and is healthier now. I'm happy as I'm healthy, I'm a nice size and have an attractive face. Someone else's weight doesn't affect me?! You are very strange! People do take stock of people who have changed dramatically. Nothing said was bad. She looks as though she's aged 10 years, which is true. Do you even have a partner?! Partners do talk factually about what they've seen that day. Its perfectly normal. I feel as though you don't and live alone. Your "hon" comment makes you sound like a chav.
