Help - given myself too much

Hi,

Long time lurker here!

I’ve been taking my pens with no issues since April and only decided to move up a dose on my last order to go up to 3.75

I did my research beforehand and kept a note saved for when I was ready to do 3.75 does.

Full on messed up - gave myself 0.9 from a 5ml pen - only on reading my note, I’d saved the info for 3.75 from a 2.5ml pen.

I realise I’ve well and truly effed up.

  1. am I going to die / be perma-glued to the bathroom for the forseeable?

  2. where do I go from here - do I try 3.75 next time I’m due a dose or am I now going to have to fully commit to 5ml for this pen.

  3. has anyone else had experience of doing this and come out the other side unscathed

I do realise it’s totally my fault for messing with the meds - lesson learned.

Any help / words of comfort / thoughts and prayers appreciated!!

  1. No you are not going to die. You've done a 0.9ml dose from a 5mg pen, so you have just injected a 7.5mg dose, when your last one was 2.5mg, presumably. So a big jump up. Side effects are associated with an increase in dose, so you may experience them. I would probably plot your doses in a dose tracker, and then consider delaying your next injection until the amount in your system has fallen back down to a level it would have been on a 3.75mg dose.

  2. As above, I'd do 3.75mg if that's what you want to stick to.

  3. I have seen a couple of posters make similar mistakes and inject more than they were planning to. I don't recall anyone having too severe side effects.

Next time, work it out from scratch to double check what you are doing before injecting. Stop and check the pen strength in mg, the amount in ml that you have, and the maths that you are using. Make sure you know the difference between volume measured in ml and strength measured in mg.

I haven't prayed in a while, but will give a go.....

Dear Lord
Forgive @Lemonseal2025 's maths error
Spare her stomach, and keep her off the toilet
Guide her next dose with wisdom

Amen (and good luck!)

Well it's unlikely you'll die lol, but I do think you'll feel a bit shit at least, really unwell at most. I had a major overnight vomming session when I went up to 5, so leaping to 7.5 is quite the leap, plot it on shotsy or something to give you a more accurate idea of what is happening, but be prepared for digestive issues.
Not a lot you can do now anyway, good lesson to check and double check if playing with doses.

😂, amen indeed, think I would be gating off a toilet for my own use for the next few days.

Thanks for this and for taking the time to explain - much appreciated

I just wish I’d ordered my usual pen rather than going up - clearly I can’t be trusted!

If I do this again - what are the right doses from a 5mg pen for the 2.5 and 3.75 doses?

@Feeelyouniq downstairs loo is currently being cordoned off as we speak 😂

@WeAllHaveWings A-bloody-men!!!

Any ideas on when it will likely work its way out of my system to take another dose (not 0.9 😂) Would I be better skipping my planned next dose next Thursday do you think?

60 clicks from any pen is a full dose. So 30 clicks is half a dose. 30 clicks from a 5mg pen would be 2.5.

45 clicks from a 5mg pen would be 3.75.

SilenceInside · 23/10/2025 20:06

If you are using a syringe, rather than using the pen, then a full dose from any pen is 0.6ml. So a half dose, 2.5mg from a 5mg pen, would be 0.3ml in a syringe. From a 5mg pen, 3.75mg is a three quarter dose, so that would be 0.45ml as that's three quarters of 0.6ml.

Mounjaro has a half life of 5 days. That means that in 5 days half of your dose will have left your system. You really need to plot your doses in a dose tracker to see what the estimated levels in your system are and when they might be back down to the levels that you would have had if you had injected 3.75mg.

babytum · 23/10/2025 20:07

Drugs have a half life, that means they have a fairly specific length of time for half of the drug to leave your body.
They also have a peak plasma time, a specific time when the drug is at its highest in your plasma. The dose itself won’t last longer at the higher dose or the lower dose. The side effects may be a little or a lot greater for a time. You haven’t taken a dangerous dose so you aren’t going to die.
The half life of Mounjaro's is 120 hours so 5 days.
It reaches peak plasma concentration in the plasma about 48 hours after injection.
So your worst side effects, if any at all, will be at that time.
But itll still be metabolised and excreted at the same rate.
There’s no need to delay your dose next week if you don’t want to, just take the right dose next time.

MeridaBrave · 23/10/2025 23:06

Well if you do feel rough you’ll know why. I wouldn’t delay next jab unless you have side effects for more than 2-3 days.
