Weight maintenance after Miunjaro

India4 · 23/10/2025 17:06

Hello All,

I am presently using 5mg Mounjaro which seems adequate for me, I would like to lose a further 1 & half stone so this is a little premature.

i, like many are concerned about increasing weight when I stop injecting.

do I need to maintain weight loss with life long injections?

can I maintain weight loss by sticking to calorie deficit as I have for months now?

I have no doubt I find the advice I require on here, thanks for reading & any advice that is offered.

Some people do, some people don’t.

I do because I’m very short and can only eat 1000 calories maintenance. Not possible for me to do that without the drug as literally starving. And I have a friend with adhd/asd who will also need to be on it forever because of dopamine, MJ literally quietens her mind so she doesn’t need dopamine fixes.

others, taller, fitter and younger may have had poorer eating habits before and this has reset their system. Or been unable to exercise due to being very heavy and now can easily.

I know loads of people on it, the point is we’re ALL different. Our systems are different, we have such individual responses.

I have lost well over 5 stone and am now maintaining, using MJ to support me.
My choice of method is to spread out the doses further each week. I am currently injecting every 12 days.
I will continue this until I get to 14 day gaps. Then, after Christmas, I plan to titrate down the doses slowly.
I need to recalibrate my Set Point. My body thinks that 16+stone is my healthy weight and the food noise, hunger and urge to eat will return in full force if I just dropped down too quickly.
I have no qualms about possibly staying on a low dose for a very long time, in the same way that I take HRT long term.

As the pp said it’s up to you, if you can stick to maintenance cals and keep the weight off or not. It’s literally how much you eat and drink dictates that. Some weight gain will happen when you stop, as fluid comes back with inflammation, but it’s minor.

I am staying on, 5mg, the first lowest therapeutic dose. Others come off as they feel confident they can achieve it. I couldn’t, I know no matter how hard I tried, at some point my weight would escalate again.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 23/10/2025 18:23

I am currently maintaining on 3.75.

I am staying on it as I have some form of metabolic dysfunction which means without the peptides my stomach and brain don’t communicate very well and the food noise becomes deafening.

KentishMama · 23/10/2025 18:51

I'm maintaining on 5 mg, and plan to continue that indefinitely.

MeridaBrave · 23/10/2025 18:55

I’m using a 5mg to take 2.5mg. I’m at my goal. I’ll do that for 4 weeks, then 2mg for 4 weeks etc. Once the pen is finished I will take a break and see how I go. But might need to restart.

gimmemounjaro · 23/10/2025 19:27

I am at goal, slowly reducing the dose and planning to stop taking MJ next year. But if I find I need to stay on a low maintenance dose, or if I stop but then need to restart, that’s fine by me. My life has changed so much and I’m actually starting to forget what it was like to be obese.

Can you maintain weight loss by sticking to calorie deficit?
The answer is that if you stick with a calorie deficit then you will continue to lose weight, with or without Mounjaro.
Tge question is whether you can stick to the deficit without it! That’s generally why people titrate down gradually.

India4 · 24/10/2025 11:33

Ah I see, so I need to gradually decrease dosage? Could I perhaps do this by trying to inject once every six weeks (if I can cope)

narkyspirit · 24/10/2025 12:05

I have started the process of decreasing dose with the intention of coming off completely in the new year.

I strung out my last 10mg pen to the point, that I have a 10mg spare unused in the fridge currently whilst starting a 7.5. in 5 days on a 7.5 pen I have dropped 0.6 kg where as on the last 10 pen, I was plateauing or gaining.

Doesn’t sound like a good idea, best to do a smaller amount weekly. The half life is 5 days so after 2 weeks there will be a negligible amount left.

Also I think if you want to do with more than a week in between dosss need to first move down to 2.5mg.

I stopped in the middle of August . Was on 5mg. I continued to lose a few kilos and now I am more or less maintaining by continueing with the way I ate on mounjaro and excercise. My motivation comes from really enjoying being slim and healthy. I think it is possible to maintain without it .

I am 8lbs from goal having lost 5 stone. I’ve started the process of gradually dropping the dose each month to see how I’ll get on. My plan is to eventually get back to 2.5mg and inject every 10 days.

Willowy2 · 24/10/2025 17:44

I've been maintaining since about March now and slowly titrating down from 7.5mg. I increased my calories slowly to maintenance calories. I'm now on 2.5mg every 9 to 10 days and will be completely done by just before Christmas. I've increased my metabolism though by building alot of muscle so my TDEE is quite high. I can eat about 2500 calories a day without gaining now. I don't always need that much, it fluctuates each day.

piscofrisco · 24/10/2025 17:47

I’ve gone off it cold turkey and just about maintained, give ir take a pound probably. I eat about 1300 Kcals a day, high protein. But I do have quite a physical job so I’m walking maybe 15000 steps 4 days a week and 10,000 the others.
pretty hungry though .
