Anyone gone Cold Turkey?

I’m well within my target at 7 months in. Take a small 3.75mg dose Mounjaro.

I don’t like the hair loss and I’m still losing weight.

Tempted just to go cold turkey from such a small dose. But terrified I’m going to get a massive rebound appetite and then what do you do? Wait until you’re obese before you can access it again? Lie to the prescriber and send in the original photo?

Any advice welcome.

There are prescribers who have maintenance plans for this situation. Check out the page about this on Monj:

In your position I would consider trying a period of time on the 2.5mg dose and see how you get on, if you can maintain on that rather than continuing to lose weight.

Sounds sensible. Wonder if I can do a fortnightly dose?

I have gone cold turkey. I do find it easier to make healthier choices and I am fully in the mind set of meal planning. My craving to snack on rubbish in the evening has returned by for the most part I am resisting. I came off 3 weeks ago. I weights this morning and have gained a little BUT it was my DS 13th birthday and we ate alot!!! All the food was consumed so I am confident itll come off again next week. All you can do is try. If I continue to gain then I may consider wegovy.

Doing a dose fortnightly would mean going from basically no medication back up to a full dose. I would maybe consider doing a lower dose each week, rather than increasing the time between doses.

A fortnightly dose is a medically accepted way of using WLI's to maintain.

I got to my target about 2 months ago. I am under the care of a weight loss specialist (ie a Bariatric Consultant). His advice, in order to maintain ones weight, is to spread the doses out first, and then start to titrate down. I am now injecting every 13 days, and will increase that to 14. I have increased the gap slowly though, I didn't jump to 13 days in one-fell-swoop.

I will probably stick there, injecting every 2 weeks, until after Christmas and then start to titrate down the dosage.
Most weeks I stay the same, sometimes I drop a pound, one week I went up a pound.
There is a thread for those who are now maintaining. There are quite a few variations on how we are doing it: spreading out doses/titrating down/stopping altogether etc

Perhaps you could do a 9 day gap, then 11 etc and build it up? See how it goes.....
You shouldn't then get a massive rebound appetite, but teach your body to adjust and create a new set point.

I have, I stopped at the start of August and loosely do 2 x 5:2 fast days a week (not super strict with this, just lower cal days!). I’ve maintained since August. I weigh myself every day and run about 3 times a week. I’m glad I’ve stopped as my capacity to run has come back from feeling a bit weak when on MJ to setting all my running personal bests in the period since stopping.

Thats a great motivation for me to keep the weight off.

I should say though that I think I just let my weight creep up through pregnancies etc- I don’t think I had any specific metabolic issues so this might play a role for those who have struggles with lifelong weight issues.

MeridaBrave · 25/10/2025 17:08

I think better to get down to 2.5mg or less (1.25mg) before considering fortnightly.
