Should I be concerned?

I'm month 4 of mounjaro. Now on 3rd dose of 7.5mg. No major concerts until this week. Up until now my only negative symptoms have been injection site redness and itchiness and sporadic sulphur burps (last a day every fortnight at most).
Took my last dose Friday evening (its now Monday morning). No symptoms at all till yesterday morning. Began with right side muscular back pain, from waist to mid ribcage only. It's quite prevalent and painful but not affecting movement or breathing. It is a consistent ache, and doesn't change if I lean forward (i.e pancreatic, gallstones etc).
Since yesterday evening I have been rushing to the loo consistently all night and the sulphur burps are like I've never experienced. It's every few minutes and huge burps. My stools are gassy and constant diarrhea. Please note - no fever is present and I am dehydrated due to the above (working on replenishment)

I'm putting it all down to having a day off plan and eating essentially junk, but I do occasionally allow myself a treat day on my journey. And quite frankly it's not that large a quantity of food overall and has never affected this way. I'm also dehydrated which I'm blaming too.

But the back ache doesn't fit the bill... should I be concerned??

Apologies for the long message, wanted to give all the little details. thank you so much.

Speak to your supplier/other pharmacist/GP.

It could be the junk food especially if fatty , I had some bbq ribs once and the onslaught of pain and nausea was awful - if it persists now you are clear then seek medical advice though

Getting rehydrated is priority avoid lots of plain water as that can worsen things - diahoralite double strength sipped regularly. Were you dehydrated before the d started ? In which case the pain could be kidney related

I had diarrhoea after my first two jabs but they were relatively pain free, just numerous trips to the bathroom! However, I started on the next dose, 5mg, last Friday and had a much more severe reaction. It started with cramping pains in my stomach radiating to my back, I could not lie down in bed and had to keep sitting up to release the trapped wind - cue some amazingly loud burps! Then the diarrhoea struck and I ended up sat on the toilet for ages! Previously I had not taken any anti diarrhoea medication but on Sunday I had could not sleep so had to take two Imodium after the first episode and then one more as instructed after the next two bouts. Fortunately at around 4 am I managed to fall asleep and then was fine the next day.

i wonder whether to really restrict what I eat the day after I jab in the hope it will reduce the diarrhoea.

Yes I believe I was dehydrated before the pain kicked in. Drinking fluids but the wrong types (meal out, fizzy with dinner etc). I've scoured the Internet for kidney pain specifics and the ticklist of side effects do not seem to match but I'm keeping a very close eye on that option as with anything whilst on mounjaro.

I've had a GI bug since Friday 2am, diarrhoea, raised temperature, headache, mild body aches, intense tummy pains, strong nausea, wanting to suddenly heave..there are definitely bugs going round as I've heard from a few others with the same and it started before my next jab on day 6, so it can't be that. I also ate what I usually do, chicken. Could you have an infection?

curiouslycautious · 13/10/2025 17:49

I’ve been relatively symptom free, went on holiday (ate healthily) and because I’d left my jab at home, I was 2 days late taking it. I (very stupidly) ate pizza, drank wine and then that night injected (7.5mg) and over the next 48 hours was as sick as a dog. It was constant nausea (even Pepto wouldn’t shift it), sulphur burps and stinky poo. I was also quite likely dehydrated from my flight. What a toxic combo. I actually felt like my insides were dying (dramatic, I know).

I usually have a relaxed day toward the end of the week when the jab is wearing off but I normally leave a gap of 24-36 hours before jabbing and also make sure I’m properly dehydrated.

As others have said, chat to your provider but it may well just be connected to the fatty food.

Thank you everyone. I think maybe a horrible medley of lack of hydration, off plan foods (not even that enjoyable lol) and to close to the jab perhaps. The back pain is concerning me and I think I'll take a little trip to the GP tomorrow for that if still the same. It's a little unusual in how it feels. I still feel the same this evening but no toilet dashes, so that's a silver lining.

I don't want to alarm you... but it very much sounds like when I had my first gallstone attack 13 years ago.

I ended up having my gallbladder taken out... it turns out I had close to 100 stones, which was surprising as I had never had any issues previously. The consultant said it was caused by the weight (50lbs in 6 months) that I had lost the previous year.

I'm referring to the '... right side muscular back pain, from waist to mid ribcage...'

OK, thank you for the insight. I will raise it with my GP when if it flares up again. I have seen them since I posted this and before your reply. Can I ask, did they say its was due to your weight prior to the loss or did you mean due to the actual weight loss itself? X x

The actual weight loss

Sounds like gallstones if you are lucky or pancreatise if you are not. Sounds horrible.

WatchingTheDetective · 16/10/2025 23:47

Stop thinking of food as a treat. Don't have treat days, that's how you ended up in this situation. And yes I know because I've been on this drug for quite a while now and if you do it properly it's brilliant. If you mess about then you'll suffer.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 16/10/2025 23:54

I would always advise speaking to a GP or provider if you're in any way concerned about gallstones or pancreatitis. Anecdotally, I had a very strange experience with MJ this week. Im on 5mg and usually little to no symptoms. Had what I thought was a cold last week and injected MJ as per usual. Ate a bit more junk/fatty week than usual but absolutely horrendous side effects as you described for 2 days. It usually lasted only 12hrs when I started. I now wonder if I had a GI bug/infection (covid...) and MJ exacerbated everything. Flat lemonade helped.
