Sudden side effects

I'm on my second week of 3.75mg after 8 weeks of 2.5mg. I had some nausea in the beginning and found that injecting into my thigh helped this.

I did my second 3.75 on Sunday and I've been having the worst diarrhoea since Tuesday afternoon. Had to take a days sick yesterday but not an option for the rest of the week. I can't face food - had a yoghurt and a sandwich on Tuesday and 2 small bowls of soup yesterday. Immodium only helping a little. Had anyone else had this? Could it be a bug?

I would say if you’ve been fine before and it’s this sudden it’s less likely to be the medication. Probably a bug.

I'm also having the most disgusting sulphur burps which I've never had before... It's very bizarre

Of course it could be a bug but the level of medication builds over the weeks so it’s equally likely to be side effects or perhaps you ate something different?

I’m on week 4 of 3.75 (5 weeks on 2.5) and this week have suffered a bit - but had mostly been fine before. I think it’s because I’ve eaten out because of work quite a bit and whilst I’ve tried to make sensible choices it’s clearly not been that great!

You have increased dose and that dose is building in your system. Side effects at dose increase are pretty common and when you are most likely to have them.

Try to stay hydrated, electrolytes might help with this. Sip small amounts rather than all in one go as it will be easier on your stomach.

Stick to light foods (google will tell you what to avoid things like sweeteners, caffeine etc), if even light foods cause issues eat what you can and prioritise hydration. Perhaps speak to provider or local pharmacist if there is anything else you can take to help manage the side effects. Pepto Bismal is supposed to be good for sulphur burps.

You will need to decide, perhaps discuss with provider, if you should stick with 2.5mg for longer, or try to ride out the increase to 3.75mg. There is no right or wrong answer as how you respond going forward will be individual to you.

Hope you feel better soon.

I e only once had sulphur burps and I am at the top dose now after 2 years. BUT: that was a week that coincided with high stress and anxiety. Never happened since. Might that be a factor?

I'm generally quite stressed and anxious 🤣 the burps are HORRIBLE, I never want these again!

Mounjaro? Hated it, awful side effects just couldn't tolerate them. I had the whole range of side effects in the 3 months I was on it and slow weight loss.

I tried to go through NHS referral for Wegovy but didn't qualify, as my BMI is under 40 & no underlying health conditions. I'm hitting the gym now but want faster results so I might just pay for the damn Wegovy.

I've had the opposite mostly.. feeling sick in the beginning but didn't last long and I've dropped 10kg in 2 months. But may drop it if these effects carry on!

You have been losing weight at a good rate - 22lbs in 10 weeks is the max you should be aiming for, a good average 2lb a week, did you need to increase dose?

Some providers imply you should increase, but you can stick with 2.5mg the whole way if you keep losing on it.

Also think about what your expectations from the medication are. Some people want suppression and keep increasing doses to achieve it. For others the control of blood sugars, reduction in food noise/cravings helps them stay in calorie deficit if they work with the medication and allows them to keep losing weight without the unpleasant side effects.

Well done on your loses so far.

Just ride it out. It'll pass. I got really bad burps and digestive problems around 5-7mg. A month ago, I randomly had a real issue with bloating ( I think it was baked beans!). I am on about 11mg now. I still get really tired with it the day after injection and general apathy.
