Australia with Mounjaro

onlymethen · 01/10/2025 09:18

Has anyone traveled to Australia with Mounjaro and if they did how did they do it.
Ive got a travel case with cooler bag, I’ve read I need an unopened pen with my prescription on the box and it’s to be in my hand luggage. Anything else I should know.

Don't forget that you have to use the pen upside-down when you get there.

😊

According to this information from the Australian govt website you just need to take your pen in its original box with the prescription label on it. There's nothing about it needing to be an unopened pen. Needles should be in your checked in luggage.

Following as have the same issue in November

i was planning on jabbing the night before we go

travelling the pen then as it doesn’t need to be refrigerated, going for 4 weeks so jabbing the night we get back with a pen left at home. I’ve ordered two so I’ve got the one ready at home. I’ll use the pen I’m taking up before we get home. Not sure how to deal with needles as I can’t travel with the sharps bin!

Yes no issues at all. I didn’t refrigerate mine and just put it in my bag. Customs weren’t interested.

@Biggles27 I have the same quandary when I go to South Africa. I think I’m going to put the used needles in an empty water bottle and screw the lid back on then dispose in a regular bin. Not ideal but don’t know what else to do 🤷‍♀️

I travel with insulin and I use a Disoncare container, this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/DISONCARE-Insulated-Medicine-One-touch-Diabetic/dp/B0D6V5J88T?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1 and a copy of my prescription. It needs to be hand checked going through security but they're used to seeing this sort of thing so they just open it and swab the cool pack. Nobody has ever asked to see my prescription. My used sharps go into a screw top container (I use Nip+Fab Glycolic pads so an empty one of those) and travel home with me in my checked-in luggage then I put them into my home sharps bin. You can buy a travel sharps bin, but it's not different really to any sturdy container with a secure lid. A small Lock and Lock type food container would also work for sharps.

Thank you. I’ll do that x

I carry EpiPens and I’ve never had an issue with those! But I always travel them with the prescription label

Skyflymom · 01/10/2025 15:34

It's not an issue, doesn't need to be an unopened pen and you just need to ensure it's in original packet with the chemist label on showing your name. I've also got a screenshot from my supplier as proof but never been asked for it. Take a small plastic pot/tub to put used needles in until you can dispose of them properly when you get home
