Lost over 11% of body weight- 2 stone no one has noticed and not gone down a dress size

When will it start to show? I started at 15,7. Now 13.7. Feeling much healthier which is all that matters to me.

But I haven't gone down from a size 20. Also I saw my sister for the first time in months yesterday and she didn't comment. Which I thought she might notice as I haven't seen her in ages.

When does it start to show? I know I was very big to start with so it not like going from a size 12 to 6 but still 10% loss is not to be sniffed at. Where has been lost from? I'm guessing my legs maybe but when I measure I have lost inches everywhere

Sometimes it's best not to comment as it suggests you looked fat or shit before!

(Well done)

cheeseforever · 29/09/2025 12:03

Congratulations on making a change which is important to you and working hard to stick at it, that’s amazing.
I guess to put another point of view, I’ve also lost 2 stone recently, partly trying but also I’ve been ill so it’s been sort of weird where people have mentioned it because of the illness if you see what I mean? If your sister doesn’t know you’ve been working at it maybe that would put her off commenting. I think 10% of body weight is conventionally seen as the “visible” difference. Maybe take some progress photos for yourself on your phone so you can see how it’s going. You must be feeling so much better, good for you xxx

secureyourbook · 29/09/2025 12:04

They may just not want to comment in case you take offence.

I see someone at my gym who I think has lost a couple of stone since we started, and the other day I thought about saying how great she looked but didn’t in case she just thinks “oh, I must have looked a right heifer before”.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 29/09/2025 12:04

I've lost 4 stone and my sister hasn't said one word 🤣. But she's probably doing the usual thing that British folk do and noticed but not said anything as it's rude.

I personally wouldn't comment on someone's weight.

dontcomeatme · 29/09/2025 12:07

I'm very similar, gone from 15st 13lb to 14st 7lb and people barely notice. Some of my clothes are a tiny big baggy now but I'm still in a 20 too. I read the kitchen roll effect and it made me feel better.

Imagine a large kitchen roll, you are the kitchen roll and every sheet represents say 2lb. The first 5 sheets you're not going to see a difference, the next 5, still maybe not. But once 20/30 sheets have been ripped off you'd be thinking, ee there's only half left I'll have to buy a new one. When there's only a few sheets left you'll think Jesus where did all that go?!

It helped me anyway x well done OP x

cheekysausage123 · 29/09/2025 12:07

What everyone else said, there’s a woman in the playground at school who looks like she’s lost at least 4 stone plus recently, I’d love to tell her she looks fantastic but what if it’s due to illness or unintentional?!

JurassicPark4Eva · 29/09/2025 12:08

I bet if you go try on new clothes you'll see a difference. Old stretched clothes don't hang the same.

Wonkypictureframe · 29/09/2025 12:09

I'd suggest two things. First, some people will never say anything because they don't think it's polite or kind or even (for some) worth mentioning. I've lost five stone and my in-laws haven't said a single word, for example. Neither have some of my friends or colleagues, whereas others have.

Second, it can take a while for the weight loss to really show. Way back when I was in your position someone shared the unlovely but useful analogy of using a loo roll. When you first starting taking off sheets it's much wider and it seems to take a long time to disappear because using up four sheets at first just removes half of the outer layer. As you go on, it takes fewer and fewer sheets used to shrink the roll. I think my weight loss wasn't hugely noticeable until I hit three stone and then suddenly the people who commented starting saying things, almost overnight.

By the way I recommend turning to non-British friends. My German and French colleagues have literally grilled me on exactly how many kilos I've lost, how, what I eat every day, what size clothing I am etc.!

Ihateslugs · 29/09/2025 12:09

Interesting, I feel the same. I lost over 2 stone just by dieting before starting WLIs but no one has commented, I thought at least my family would. I am much larger at size 24 and although I’ve not bought new clothes in a smaller size, my clothes are definitely baggier. I’m waiting as long as possible before buying new clothes as I have a long way to go but I plan to start altering some tops to fit me better.

It does not bother me though, I’m not going to stop as I have a long term goal ahead of me. I’m sure when I wear smaller size clothes my weight loss will be more obvious.

beezlebubnicky · 29/09/2025 12:11

I never comment on people's weight as you don't know if it's wanted or unwanted weight loss, what the circumstances are or if the person has an illness or issues with weight/eating disorders. Well done on the weight loss, more results can take time and don't take it personally.

OvaHere · 29/09/2025 12:14

I lost about 5 stone. It took 3+ for people to start noticing including the people I live with, and for my usual clothes to feel too big to wear.

Comedycook · 29/09/2025 12:16

Same...lost nearly two stone now. My clothes are feeling looser but I haven't dropped down a size yet. My immediate family has noticed but that's it

BambinaCucina · 29/09/2025 12:17

I lost 4 stone last year before my family mentioned it - and even then it was only because my OH had lost 2.5 stones that they started to look at me!

I think sometimes people don't want to mention losing weight incase there's a sinister reason behind it.

PersistentRain · 29/09/2025 12:18

I had to go from 13 stone to 10 before anyone noticed.

I put the weight back on (thanks covid) and I’ve lost a stone. I can really tell but I doubt anyone else can.

TheRealGoose · 29/09/2025 12:19

I’m assuming you are close enough to your sister she’d know you’re not unwell, no idea whey people are comparing it to randoms at the school gate or gym

are you wearing rhe same clothes op? If you are it will not be noticeable you’ve lost to others, and have you been working out. If you carried weight in your tummy and not working out we can retain that, and it makes us look heavier.

CagneyNYPD1 · 29/09/2025 12:20

I’m in a similar situation. I’ve lost just over 3 stone dropping from 15st to 11st11. Big size 16/sometimes 18 down to a smallish 14. In that my size 14 clothes feel fairly loose on me but I haven’t needed to buy a whole new wardrobe (I had kept a load of my smaller sized clothes in hope).

It’s taken a year to lose the weight. It wasn’t particularly noticeable at the 2 stone mark but is more noticeable now. But not massively so. I think because I have lost weight all over rather than just the tummy area. Even my hands and knees are smaller.

My sister commented recently. I’ve had the odd questioning glance from people but nothing more than that.

I’ve got to go shopping for an outfit to a birthday party soon. So it will be interesting to see what size clothing I can try on.

Edited to add: I am actually relieved that people don’t comment as I find the whole subject quite awkward to discuss face to face with people.

LikeStrawberriesAndCream · 29/09/2025 12:22

Congratulations on the weight loss!
Have you tried on size 18 clothes? The reason I ask is that a 2 stone loss should result in at least 1 size down - and I notice a lot of people who have quickly lost weight still wearing clothes that are too big for them. It's like the brain hasn't caught up with the body, or they haven't yet built up the confidence to wear more fitted clothing.
I'm not saying this is you - everyone is different - just that I have been both your start weight and your current weight and I definitely dropped a dress size in that time. I also know that when I wear my "old" clothes now, they still "fit" and feel v comfortable - but give me a sort baggy (even deflated) look.
You don't say if you've told people you're on WLI - but I've also noticed that the people who know I'm on the injections are less likely to compliment my weight loss 😂

MidnightPatrol · 29/09/2025 12:22

I can think of several people I have seen recently where I think they’re lost weight (and look good!) and I’ve opted not to comment as I don’t think they’ll want me drawing attention to it.

So it may just be politeness.

TwoBlueFish · 29/09/2025 12:28

Im very similar to you. I’ve lost almost 2 stone, 11% of my body weight and don’t think I look much different and nobody has really noticed. My jeans fit better so I know I have lost. My waist measurement hasn’t gone down by much though so I can’t go down a clothes size. I’m hoping the next stone might make more difference.

Comedycook · 29/09/2025 12:29

As I've spent my life on a diet...I had always assumed everyone was like me and wanted to have their weight loss commented upon. It was only after reading threads on here that I realised some people were offended by this...for that reason I probably wouldn't comment on someone's weight loss now. So maybe there's an element of that going on.

JetFlight · 29/09/2025 12:40

If your dress size hasn’t changed and you’re wearing the same clothes then it’s probably hard to notice. People might think you’ve lost weight but don’t want to mention it in case you haven’t and they feel awkward.
Everyone will notice when you go down sizes and wear clothes that fit your new size.

Antimimisti · 29/09/2025 12:44

As a yo-yo dieter - my experience is, most people don't notice until you are more or less 'slim'. If you are still overweight, they just see 'overweight' and don't notice a couple of stone less overweight.

Keep going, they will notice soon!

Don't set too much store by dress size - sizes are so variable, a 20 in one brand might be a 16 in another. You've measured yourself and you're smaller - that's what counts.

SpryLilacSnake · 29/09/2025 12:48

I would never comment on weight loss simply because it may have been unintentional and you may have preferred yourself at the heavier weight and be trying to get back to that weight. Congratulating someone on losing weight feels like saying the new weight is 'better' than the old one and the person themselves may not feel the same way. It's not like a new haircut where it's obvious the person did it intentionally.

daffodilandtulip · 29/09/2025 12:53

Don't worry, everyone will soon be telling you that you look ill or you'll fall down a grid or not to lose any more. There's no nice middle comments.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 29/09/2025 12:54

I wouldn’t ever comment on someone’s weight. You don’t comment when it goes on, why would you comment when it comes off?
