When will it start to show? I started at 15,7. Now 13.7. Feeling much healthier which is all that matters to me.

But I haven't gone down from a size 20. Also I saw my sister for the first time in months yesterday and she didn't comment. Which I thought she might notice as I haven't seen her in ages.

When does it start to show? I know I was very big to start with so it not like going from a size 12 to 6 but still 10% loss is not to be sniffed at. Where has been lost from? I'm guessing my legs maybe but when I measure I have lost inches everywhere

I wouldn’t comment on someone else’s weight full stop. My parents, and brother & his wife always comment to me “oh have you lost weight you look great” I haven’t lost weight and I’m not trying to, they are just trying to upset me. I don’t want others To feel that way!

MeridaBrave · 29/09/2025 22:16

i’ve lost about that also, from size 12 to 8. More like 15% starting weight. And no one seems to have noticed either (other than my gym friends because I wear vest tops and cycling shorts).

I’ve lost nearly 4 stone and hardly anyone ever says anything! I saw a neighbour I hadn’t seen for months the other day and he said, ‘You look different….have you changed your hair?’ 🙄

If it helps, OP, I am still in a lot of my Fat Git clothes. Elasticated waistbands are to blame in my case, as they just shrink with you. I am going trying on clothes at the shops at the weekend, so fingers crossed I won’t be pouring myself into size 22 clothes as previously.

It took 5 stone for people to start to comment with me, and more fitted clothes
I was in a 22/24, and now an 16/18/20 depending on fit and stretch. Boobs are still huge, although somewhat saggier.
I just sorted my wardrobe out and tried on everything, that was a long and messy day, and have got rid of over 1/2 my clothes. It was very odd to find clothes that I used to love that were loose and even falling down on me.

Happy to report back after my trip to Next. I tried on three different styles of jeans size 20-16 and get them all on and done up! The only ones that was too tight was the denim with no lycra. They went on and did up but i wouldn't want to have to sat and eaten my Christmas dinner in them! It's a bit weird as really the rest all fitted me! I could have got 20 or 16 in the jeggings. Both seemed totally fine. Maybe this is the streachy effect? Or me still thinking I need some room to grow?

In reality there was a lot of difference between the sizes and the non streach looked very different between 20 - 16 on the leg and hips.

I think I have possibly gone down a dress size after all? I'm going to try some on again when I loose another 7lbs or my current trousers fall down.

I took lots of photos.

I know I'm doing OK as I walked up the Arc de Triomphe last week and only stopped once for 30 seconds with 20 steps left to go. I mean I nearly died in the process but I did it right??!!

If you're fitting into some size 16 clothes from having started as a 20, you have definitely gone down at least one dress size! Congratulations!

These days, you will never find consistency in sizing, whatever your weight. Denim without lycra is a very stiff material when new - you may be used to wearing stretchy or soft fabrics around your waist, which would be why the jeans felt uncomfortable when done up. Maybe try them on again in a few week's time, and bear in mind the denim will soften once it's been through the wash a few times.

I think you should be happy people aren't saying anything. A friend of mine lost a lot of weight due to cancer treatment that made her feel nauseous. She was not happy when people told her she had lost weight ,,(as if she hadn't noticed🙄)

tripleginandtonic · 30/09/2025 08:22

At 13 stone 7 you should be more a size 16/18 surely?
