Help with eating

Hi all hoping someone can offer a little advice, I am due my 5th does (2.5mg) this weekend, but I am really struggling to eat anywhere close to my calories.

Obviously there is the appetite suppression effect, usually I would counter this by having calorie dense foods, to 'top up' the chicken/ tuna etc. I seem to have got in a loop, as I am really worried in about side effects, vomiting primarily, so I am avoiding anything potentially triggering.

Basically I am feeling a little lost, I don't have any appetite or hunger, I can't make up calories with less nutritious calorie dense food as I am avoiding everything that isn't low fat, high protien, low carb 'clean' 'safe' so to avoid side effects. My basis for 'safe' is based on a significant amount anecdotal information - reading posts, comments etc.

I don't want to cause myself issues with such a low calorie, and to some extent nutrient deficient diet, although I am supplementing to adaquate levels the majority of nutrients.

I am ND and I know this isn't helping my thought process, as I am definitely stuck, does anyone have any advice on food options? How much fat, even good fats, is too much? Same with carbs, simple /complex when is it likely to cause problems?

In terms of dosing has anyone injected 1.25mg?

Would very much appreciate any thoughts

How many calories are you averaging across the week? Are there days where you’re hungrier e.g days 5&6?

FairyBatman · 26/09/2025 17:23

Everyone is different but if it helps I know people who have had nausea, I don’t know anyone who has had actual vomiting.

I try to avoid greasy food, but a little fat is important for nutrient absorption. You could try some avocado or cheese.

My usual meals would be

Breakfast
Nothing - maybe a slice of peanut butter toast on day 6/7

Early lunch around 11
A cup-a soup and piece of fruit
1/3 - 1/2 a pot of supermarket fresh soup.
A small sushi pack (4 rolls) and piece of fruit.
A slice of cheese on toast and a piece of fruit.
Half an avocado with salt and chilli sauce on toast.

Afternoon snack with my brew is a babybel light and a satsuma or a few blueberries.

Dinner is a small portion of whatever the family are having except for the day after I inject when it will be the same as the lunch options.

@PiinkLemonade I have a little less supression on day 6 /7, but not still not significant enough to meet my min calorie target.

In the calories I avoided saying as I know it may provoke a very strong response in some, but just to assure everyone, I am 100% aware this is not healthy or sustainable hence the question.

My average daily calories since starting is 546. Some days as low as 250 (a chicken breast) some closer to 800 calories

@FairyBatman thanks for this, I have no doubt some of this is due to confirmation basis when reading posts, but hearing vomiting isn't actually very common is helpful. I am sure I can deal with any other side effect but the vomiting is just a real fear.

The food list is actually really helpful, I have avoided avocado, cheese due to the fat content concern, I can definitely add some calories that way. The odd cheese and cracker etc would definitely be do-able. Like wise bread I could do a slice of toast. I also really so enjoy maki sushi, but was concerned re the rice (carb) and salmon (fat) etc so good to know that's an option I could try

@FairyBatman I vomited so much when I took MJ the first time. I couldn’t even keep down water. Had a break and now no side effects

Anon1231990 · 26/09/2025 17:50

@PiinkLemonade was your vomiting simply a result of the medication then, not the food? Did you eat very plainly when restarting?

Maybe I should take a week off...I have had nausea, and in the first week very occasional near vomiting which may have triggered some of my restricting

Yeah, food made no difference at all. Cyclizine helped at first until it didn’t. Was off it for about 6 weeks and decided to try it again. The side effects are less but so is the suppression etc. but give me that over vomiting and nausea any day

100% on vomiting! I think I may try one or two 'new' foods tomorrow and if I get a strong response maybe a break is the right way to go. Definitely wouldn't be too upset with less supression either

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, it's very much appreciated

You need to see it as a reeducation of your existing eating habits. Limiting foods in the way you are isn’t healthy.

have you had severe side effects? I’m worried that this is triggering disordered eating.

well done for reaching out and asking though. It can’t be easy.

I have:

breakfast 1 weetabix and milk
lunch soup (homemade at the moment)
snack pineapple
dinner - I have thinks like chilli and rice. Tuna steak and a big salad, chicken Kiev and salad, home made spaghetti Bol.

WeAllHaveWings · 26/09/2025 18:43

I snacked on Graze chilli and lime mixed nuts daily in those early weeks, not too filling and gets a few calories in.
