Mounjaro do you have to increase the dosage?

Hi,
I am seriously considering Mounjaro likely to start very soon, my question is do you have to increase the dosage monthly or can you stop at a certain dosage you are comfortable with? Also I need to lose about 4 stone (5 to be the Svelte little hottie I imagine in my head Lol) but in all seriousness how long roughly did it take people on here to see a difference? And any nasty side effects? I am excited but terrified at the same time....thanks

You don’t have to move up doses if you don’t want to, if you are losing weight consistently. You just keep ordering the same dose.

You should work out timescales based on losing weight at about 1 to 2 pounds a week. So for 4 stone that would be between 28 and 56 weeks assuming you don’t have any plateaus or gains. Which you might do.

Do an internet search for Mounjaro side effects and have a read of what the pharmacies who supply it say. Many articles about this are available online from reputable sources. There are risks for taking a prescription only medication for obesity, but on balance the benefits outweigh them.

I’d give it a year, lots of exercise to maintain your muscle and do it in a slow and sustainable way so that you can maintain afterwards.

I spent a month on 2.5 and 5 and then longer on 7.5 and 10 and have been on 12.5 since March with no intention of changing. It’s a dose that suits me and I’m not quite at my goal but also don’t want to go up.

See the meds as a tool, there will be side effects but the weight loss and health benefits far outweigh them. Some months there was a lot of diarrhoea and nausea and sulphur burps but they are long, long gone for me.

Find some good supplements and prioritise protein and fibre and that will help with how you feel.

I lost four stone in six months and only went up to 7.5 briefly before dropping back to 5mg as the side affects were not great. I lost the majority of the weight on 5mg.

Just coming up to being on it six months and have lost 4 stone - all on 2.5. So no you can do whatever dose works for you.

I'm using it as a helper to change habits, be healthier in my eating and I'm not chasing suppression of my appetite.

Hello @ILOVECHOCOLATEPISTACHIOS Firstly, no you do not have to increase the dosage monthly. If you find that the medication is effective and you are losing weight, you can stay at the same dose as long as you like.
Many people have lost lots on the lower doses, others have chosen to move up each month.
You are in control, it is your decision.

I have lost 5.5 stone over about 9 months, and during that time I did:
2.5mg 1 month
5mg 1 month
7.5mg 2 months
10mg 3 months
12.5 mg 2 months

I chose to move up a dose when the medication was not lasting the full 7 days, or because I could feel the effects were lessening. I took enough so that I could eat 3 small/moderate meals a day, but did not get hungry between meals.
For the first time in my life I start to feel full while I am eating, and then don't get hungry until about 5 hours later.
Also, no emotional eating. It's amazing

Side effects: I sometimes get a bit of nausea or indigestion for a couple of days after injecting. I have a tendency to constipation, so take psyllium capsules every morning, drink LOADS of water and stick to mainly protein and fibre.
On a couple of occasions I over indulged and then felt ghastly for a few hours, I learnt my lesson!

How long to see a difference: No one really noticed for the first couple of stone, although I could feel and see the difference myself. It was when I got to 3 stone that people began to notice, and I started to get out my old slimmer clothes from storage which fitted me better.
Now, When I meet someone who I haven't seen for ages, the look on their face gives me an absolute thrill. I can literally see them thinking 'WOW!'

Like you, I was excited and terrified when I started. I was excited that this might actually work, terrified that I might get unfortunate side effects; but I just thought to myself, if I don't like it I can stop!
This has been an expensive journey, but I saw it as an investment in myself and my future.
To do this was the best decision ever!

As long as it's working, no need to go up. I lost pretty much all my weight on 2.5, only went up to 5 for a couple of jabs when I had a longer plateau. First stone or so, nobody noticed. after 3 stone - some people genuinely do not recognise me.

ILOVECHOCOLATEPISTACHIOS · 21/09/2025 16:31

Thank you all for your replies they are ALL so helpful, thank you @MagnoliaTreePetals for the Psyllium capsule tip, since I have heard this can be a side effect, it sounds like a really good way forward. I can only imagine how thrilling it is to see others looking at you and thinking wow what a change. ..Go you! 😁 Ultimately I know its for yourself but that's part of the package isn't it, to feel good in the way you look when taking on the world....interesting and helpful @HeidiLite you only went up when you hit a plateau.....love people not recognising you, must feel so good :0) and @Yellowsubmarine55 you only stayed on 2.5 really inspiring and helpful, I know it might not be applicable to me but food for thought if you'll excuse the pun 😁so good to know....and @TimeForATerf great you lost the majority on 5mg....yeah I agree @SilenceInside the benefits outweigh the risks for sure.....thanks for the tip too @FurForksSake re protein and fibre really good to know......thanks too anyone I left out because all the advice is gold for me thanks a million for all the replies I'm ready 💪😃

I have done 10 months on 2.5mg and lost just about 7 stone. Good balance between not overeating but enjoying food. Never had any side effects. Life changing.

JaceLancs · 21/09/2025 17:50

I’ve lost 2 stone in 3-4 months - did 2.5mg for first month and stayed on 5 since - I do
get minor side effects so worry increasing dose would make this worse
Now with price increases 5mg is also more affordable

ILOVECHOCOLATEPISTACHIOS · 21/09/2025 20:04

Hi @rewardh and @JaceLancs really helpful information thanks so much, ....just shows you that even 2.5mg can be effective (I know not for everyone) but very interesting....and yes I think maybe going over 5mg might not be the best course for me either as I am very sensitive to things, (even to the point of ingredient checking with certain e numbers because of being so reactive) although I know this is different.....I am totally inspired by the weight loss though, got to be a good thing to get healthy and feel good about yourself....seems like a win win to me 🙏😄

I really think it depends on how you use it tbh. I read so many people chasing high suppression and not changing their diets properly, just stocking up on protein drinks/yoghurts. I only use a small dose because I don’t want appetite suppression, I hated that at the start.

Today I had scrambled egg on toast in a cafe for breakfast then later on an iced white mocha at Starbucks. Lunch was homemade soup and I had spaghetti bolognaise for dinner. I could not survive on the days food some people are having.

ILOVECHOCOLATEPISTACHIOS · 22/09/2025 07:42

Hi @rewardh sounds like a really good approach (and has evidently worked so I feel really inspired).... I have done the appetite suppression protein shake stuff in the past and its not the way for me, I lost a lot but put it all back on again and also got quite ill in the process, I was so rigid about snacks and shakes and stuff which is no way to live, eating sensibly whilst incorporating little treats to give that bit of oomph is likely to keep me on track (hopefully 😁
