Advice on higher dose

Hi girls. I've been on Mounjaro since May & lost 2 stone. However, I've stalled now & it seems silly to carry on if I'm not losing.
But, I want to carry on as I tolerate well. In August I went up to the next dose of 5 or something & it caused my Hiatus hernia to go nuts & I was so unwell. I'm now on 30mg of Lansoprazole in August I was on 15mg.
Does anyone have any suggestions as whether I should try again on the 5.?
My GP says all I can do is try it. I'm nit on the NHS as I don't qualify apparently 😠even though I'm 20 stone & BMI is over 40. I'm with Healthexpress & they've been fab tbh. But I'm 71 & money is a wee bit tight but I still want to continue. Any advice would be fab. xxx

If your GP has OK'd increasing, can you try increasing from 2.5mg gradually by counting clicks from your 5mg pen? So bumping up to 3mg or at a push 3.75mg.

A lot of folk struggle to jump from 2.5mg -> 5mg in one hit.

My daughter in law does my injection & says its gone around as much as possible. My GP suggested that too but I can't see how to do it. I really wish I knew how, that would be great. xxx

There are plenty of resources online about counting clicks, but I do think it's important to fully understand what you are doing before you even attempt it.

This may help @Col28 it's a click chart

Check prices on monj.co.uk, you might find cheaper.

if you go mid way between 2.5mg and 5mg which is 3.75mg (45 clicks) in a 5mg pen you will get 5 doses out of your pen before it locks and within the 30 day in use window (inject on days 0,7,14,21,28). Your provider won’t advise or condone this so no point talking to them about it. Just tell them you skipped a dose (holiday, forgot, unwell) if they ask why you are only ordering every 5 weeks. This may help financially.

Focus on the more subtle effects Mounjaro is having on you blood sugars and cravings rather than the more obvious suppression/slower gastric emptying which may affect you HH more. Work with Mounjaro with plenty of protein, fiber for bulk, minimal UPF/sugar/sweetener/simple carbs, plenty of water - it really does make a difference to its effects.

This will hopefully help you stay on lower/cheaper doses for longer - I’m post menopausal, have done 15 months on 3.75mg, lost over 8st - I know that lower doses are not effective for everyone but also think some do increase without making the supporting diet changes first or until later.

Be aware of the risks with long term PPI use. I was on Omeprazole for 8 years and ended up B12 (nerve damage) and magnesium deficient (foot/leg cramps) and I worry what it has potentially done to my bones, no one ever told me it was a risk. Thankfully with the weight loss reducing the symptoms, and then being able to identify trigger foods (no more tomato based food unless I have gaviscon nearby!) I have been able to stop omeprazole and cope with occasional rennies and/or Gaviscon Advance now.

My jump from 2.5mgs to 5mgs. hit me hard with nausea and diarrhoea. I started mid May. I now take 3.5 every 6 days which seems to suit me better. I have decent suppression without feeling ill.
We are all different in the way our bodies respond and can only make our own decisions.
I'm a plodder with weight loss averaging a pound a week.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I’m due to go up to 5mg too, but was wondering what the “clicks” mean? I thought we twist the pen to get to the number “1” and then inject??

SilenceInside · 21/09/2025 16:56

@ButterfliesnWaterfallsWhen you twist the pen to the 1 position, there are 60 clicks that the pen makes as it turns. You can also see that there are 60 small lines marked in the dose window that match the clicks. Normally you don’t need to count them, as you just turn straight to the one position. If you want to do less than a full dose, you turn the pen less than to the 1 position. The way to do that is to count each click as you twist. A half dose is 30 clicks, for example.
