Magnesium for constipation

50lbstolose · 19/09/2025 20:46

I have been having the worst constipation since I started Mounjaro in April.

I am now on Weygovy, I was hoping that it might ease up.

I have reduced my meat and gluten intake and I have increased my water and fibre.

I am thinking of taking magnesium lactate, I've read that cab help.

Is anyone else taking magnesium supplements? Does anyone have any advise on how to avoid constipation?

No but would love to know if it works!
Im on mj and haven't gone in 12 days.
Since being on it I go once a week.
Have been taking sennacot for the last few days but nothing.

Try Dulcolax Pico. But be warned do not stray far from the loo. Once you're sorted try not to let it go as long. If you miss a day, try and get on top of it.

Milk of magnesia is your friend here!

Nutrigeeks triple magnesium works wonders for constipation and is much more gentle than laxatives. Take 2 before bed and you’ll go in the morning (or 3 if you’re feeling brave lol). Magnesium is really good for you too, most of us are deficient and it helps with sleep.

I take a magnesium complex and it does help sleep, horrible muscle cramps at night and to help keep things moving. I notice if I forget to take for a couple of nights, usually cramps in foot first, then trouble going 💩.

I second this.
Regular as clockwork and great sleep. I’ve been in MJ for 15 months and this 3in1 Magnesium for about a year.

For constipation while taking Mounjaro I've found magnesium and a couple of digestive biscuits with a hot drink in the evening has worked. Only go about every two or three days now but I'm not uncomfortable with it and huge improvement on my early days with Mounjaro. Occasionally take a dulcolax if it goes more than a few days, but probably only once a month and only if I've not got much on as they can work too well. I'm not great at remembering to drink water regularly but I'd imagine that would help too. Pre Mounjaro I had to stop taking magnesium as it caused awful diarrhoea so it was great to be able to go back on it!

Not on any weight loss injections, but do take this magnesium supplement but hadn't linked it to what has been causing my err sudden very upset stomach and urgent toilet need. Might just have one a day instead of the two I've been having.

I find one a night is enough for me most of the time to keep things on an even keel, I up to two for a few days occasionally if I feel I need to.
