Counting clicks

On the she med study. My last questionnaire was done just before the price increase and it took them ages to assess and prescribe. Pen before last was 7.5ml but I was really unwell with side effects so dropped back to 5mg next pen. This time they prescribed 7.5mg again! I emailed (marked urgent) as soon as I was informed but by the time they replied I already had the pen.
i said I’d have to adjust the dose (by counting clicks) so I don’t get ill. They said I mustn’t do this as it’s dangerous but they won’t refund me for the pen so their only solution is to order the next pen (which will be wegovy) early, which I’m not prepared to do.
is it really dangerous?

It’s dangerous in that you might make a mistake. They absolutely definitely can’t tell you to do it because you might be too stupid to count!

No it’s not dangerous, You are taking less than they have prescribed so how could it be. If you wanted to take a larger dose I could understand them advising it’s dangerous just in case you miscalculated (some people do) and took a lot more than you should etc.

It's not dangerous, unless you do something very peculiar, but you could do that whilst attempting to do a normal dose! The pharmacies and suppliers cannot recommend or support you using the pen in a way that goes against the manufacturer instructions. That's all it is.

If you miscount, you could under-dose, or you could do a dose higher than you wanted, but the maximum dose you could do is the 7.5mg that Shemed have just prescribed for you. So, that isn't dangerous, given that's the dose they think you should be taking.

To do a 5mg dose from a 7.5mg pen, you need to do two-thirds of a normal dose. A normal dose is 60 clicks, so two thirds of that is 40 clicks. When you have turned the pen 40 clicks, make a mark with a sharpie on the line that's showing in the dose indicator window. That way, you can turn to the mark next time rather than have to count 40 clicks each time.

You will also get more than four 5mg doses out of the 7.5mg pen.
I am very happy with spreading out the pen longer than the instructions say.
Other people not so happy, it's up to you.

To do this you will need extra needles and wipes though, if they only supply you with 4 per pen.
