Constipation

Had anyone had to stop WLI due to side effect of constipation? Unfortunately the slower gut transit ground my guts to a halt and I've had to take a break after a few months of weight loss success on Mounjaro (but terrible constipation) to follow macrogol disimpaction regime. I drank 2-3l water / day and got 25-35g fibre / day but didn't manage to get bowels back to any semblance of normal. I'm going to do a reset with laxatives and then may consider restarting on 2.5mg with daily macrogol and docusate and a very close eye on side effects. Anyone else in same boat?

I have had constipation from week 1 and I am now 9 months in. I tried every remedy going from prunes, ispaghula husk, kiwis, bran etc but nothing helped. I also am susceptible to diverticulitis so was very worried that it would be an issue that would halt my journey.
I have ended up taking Docusate twice a day every day. Is this ideal - not at all. But I am almost at goal and not planning to stay on MJ long term so decided for a few months it was manageable.
There are loads and of posts about constipation as it is such a common side effect. You may find something that works for you but I think some of us unfortunately need to take regular laxatives whilst on MJ.

I've never had constipation, sulphur burps, vomiting etc and ive been on MJ for 11 months now. I don't know if it's based on what we eat or volume or anything else. I eat more protein and salads and veg and some carbs and still go every morning, just as normal before mj. I have gone through months of very high suppression on 15mg and only ate 700-900 cals a day and still went daily, I also have gone through most of my time eating 900-1200, and more recently 1100-1300 because I'm exercising and increasing more for maintenance now my bmi is 23.9 and I'm still going daily.

I have had IBS for over a decade and MJ has completely resolved this so i can assume slowing my stomach emptying has benefitted me. I have gone through several periods over years of taking probiotic capsules and most recently consuming kefir monthly, which may help especially long term as it repopulates the gut bacteria. Hope this may help.

I’ve found it to be the worst side effect for me, I’ve never known anything like it!
I’m doing all the right things 🥝 🥝 but it’s awful.

Me too. I need to take Movicol twice a week minimum which sorts it out.
Prunes, prune juice, everything else etc just don’t work enough. Sometimes it feels challenging but it’s been like this from the get go.

Sorry to hear I'm not the only one struggling. Weird how it affects people differently. Due to pre MJ issues I'm very focussed on fibre intake and maintaining a healthy gut microbiome but still had problems. I'm having to take a break for planned surgery next week, but hope to get back onto it once I've recovered and will be sure to keep on top of things with laxatives.

I had constipation the first few weeks, the daily trying to birth a 💩 was awful and painful, so sending sympathies but sorry not much in the way of advice as I don’t think anything I did magically cured it, it just stopped happening for me.

Would Wegovy, just GLP-1 without the GIP perhaps be an option?

Good luck

Mine has been terrible since day, going every 5/7 days. I eat more prunes, apricots and kiwis than I know what to do with! Bran flakes and raspberries. Etc.

I've now got movicol from the GP and will try one a day and see if it makes a difference.

I haven't jabbed for 14 days (I missed last weekends) but have been 3 days in a row. So my slowed gut has resolved itself it seems as the drug has been leaving me. I am jabbing tonight so expect it to grind to a halt again!
