Mounjaro out of stock and I have none left - what do I do in the interim?

TL:DR -

I have used my final dose and will not receive my next pen until 2+ weeks have elapsed, I don't really want to start from 2.5mg again - do I have any options to avoid that? Any pharmacies allow ad-hoc orders?

Long story -

So when the news came out about the price increases, I had around 3 doses left I think, and normally I would have ordered a new pen around that time anyway. But of course, due to the price changes, everyone else got in there very fast so that by the time I went to place my renewal order, they were out of stock (Asda online pharmacy) and you couldn't actually place any orders.

Anyway finally I got an email and I was able to order on Monday but apparently they have a massive queue waiting for review, so I won't actually GET the pen until 16th-18th September, and I last injected on the 2nd. So it's almost certain that it'll be more than 14 days by the time I get my next pen.

I eked out the time until my last dose to beyond a week because I had a feeling this would happen, so to give myself a bit more time, but I guess not enough.

Not a single one of their info emails about the price increases, cancellations, switching treatments etc, mentions this scenario. Surely there must be others in the same situation.

What do I do? Does anybody know of any pharmacies which would allow a one-off order and have stock available sooner??

I did worry about this so I half dosed until I got a pen which is no help to you now.

Can you just swop supplier? That's what I had to do. I'm still waiting on a bolt order from the 14th and I'd not tried another supplier I'd have nothing either. Good luck

I know I'm a bit of a stuck record on this topic but can you find a local independent pharmacy that does in-person prescribing of MJ, explain the situation, take evidence of your previous doses from Asda with you to your appointment and see if they can give you a one-off pen?

The local pharmacy I use did this for people when everything went mad after the price hike announcements. They limited it to one pen for non-existing customers but that would be all you need. Obviously it'll be at the new prices now.

All pharmacies will accept a one off order. I have jumped between companies every month. Just avoid any subscription model ones.

Most pharmacies will take a one-off order and you'll likely pay considerably less than you have been with Asda.

I use IQ doctor and I believe they have reinstated quite a large discount for new customers somewhere around £55 off. They'll want a photo of you side and front holding a sign with your order number and a photo of your last box or proof of your previous prescription. I've always found them really fast and tend to get approved either same day or the day after ordering and delivered the following day. However as they have put their discount back on they may be slower than usual

As others said, why wait for Asda, so many regulated pharmacies supply, just order from one.

You can get one from any supplier as a new customer. Find one with the best new customer discount. That's what I would do

I don't think you'll need to go back down to 2.5 if you stop taking it for two weeks. I went on holiday and decided not to take the injections, and just went back on the same dose as soon as I returned.

Has anyone managed to get approved as a new customer despite type 2 diabetes? My supplier was always jolly expensive, and is now ridiculously so - but the others I have tried won’t take me on. Ironic, since the drug category was developed for diabetes anyway !

How do you find a local pharmacy that prescribes?

My one, I knew them already because they're DH's nominated pharmacy for his NHS prescriptions. They recently opened a shiny new clinic in town advertising both Pharmacy First NHS services and private weight management in the window. I checked out their website which confirmed they were offering appointments for both Wegovy and Mounjaro. In the absence of knowing what I already did I"d probably just have googled local pharmacies and then checked their website.

My reasons for doing it this way were entirely pragmatic, in that I have ongoing issues with deliveries to my house going astray and I didn't need that stress every month, especially as we were heading into Spring/Summer at the time. It was never as cheap as all the online discount codes and switching people do but when things went tits up with the price rise announcement it was a lot easier to be able to just walk in, talk to the prescribing pharmacist who knows me well by now, and get some extra pens there and then.

Well Pharmacies do, but basically just ring your local pharmacies and ask if they offer the service - or check their websites.

Pharmalous approved me in 24 hours last week in this situation. Also have you taken the golden dose? It might give you another week while you are waiting for a pen.
