Hi everyone. I was on 10mg of mounjaro and was going well. I then ran into supply issues and wasn’t able to take it for 3 weeks. I’ve just managed to get 2 pens. I want to go back into 5mg. Can I use the 10mg pen to get 8 doses out? It will be really hard to get a new prescription for 5mg. Thank you so much.

Yes you can. Either do 30 clicks per dose (instead of 60) or use an insulin needle to draw out 0.3ml per dose.

great thanks so much. As I’m using it for 60 days (guidance is 30) is it still ok to store outside of the fridge?

I’d say no, even stored in the fridge 60 days is pushing it, I certainly would be very cautious about 60 days out of the fridge, that’s really outside of the guidelines, however others may say different.

People do do it yes and I don't blame them but I tried and felt sick even after 8 days (trying to space out doses) I know it was all in my head but I'm churning up now just thinking about it 🤣

I am also on 5mg and had ordered 7.5mg as my next pen in early August undecided if I would move up. Suppression stayed high so I didn’t . I then ordered 2 x 10mg pens when the pricing news broke. I still don’t need to move up and suspect I won’t ever so I am planning to do same as you, except I have always been a fifth dose user so they will last for 10 doses, not 8.

To minimise risk I will keep pens in fridge the whole time, be stringent on hygiene, and also use syringes for all doses to prevent any chance of backwash into the pen. That’s my own risk assessment for using the pen quite so far beyond the 30 days which I would never have considered before all of this. This means those 2 pens will get me into 2026.

I would do it but I would keep it in the fridge.

Thanks everyone. So I have stored a pen in the fridge before when I was planning to use it for 6 weeks but after 3 doses it stopped working and I noticed a white hardened blob on the end of the pen which had solidified?!!!!

I would take a photo and send to your provider, it shouldn't look like that.

Keep it in the fridge but not right at the back where it could freeze. The door is ideal.
