Weight loss injections/treatments

Discuss weight-loss injections and treatments, including personal experiences. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any treatments.

Thread 2 because we have reached our goal weights and we want to maintain not regain. We might be going cold turkey or titrating down or staying on!

Can't believe we filled up a whole thread! Welcome to thread 2.

On a positive note to start us off, I've lost 1lb of the two that I gained from my autumnal apple crumble caper. Filling full of resolve and pleased to know I can gain a pound or two (which is of course completely normal) and then lose them again.

As I understand it, MJ has a half life of 5 days. So after 5 days you have eliminated approximately 50% of what you injected. It takes approximately 25 days for it to be completely gone from your system. All of that will depend on the speed of the individual's metabolism, the amount of MJ injected etc.

I can see the benefits of both extending the time frame as well as reducing the dosage as people come off. Again, I guess much of it will come down to what is going to work for the individual. So much of this part of the process (as in coming off and maintaining) is untried and untested.

I'm on holiday so will have 2 weeks between jabs (deliberate decision not to bring a pen with me). Over the last few months I've learnt to accept, and even quite like, the feeling of being a little bit hungry. I was like that tonight. dh was all for going to a local pub bur fortunately it was closed. Fortunately because I know that is my weakness. I can manage the slight hunger when I'm cooking because I know what good things are coming and when. But hungry in the pub means being tempted by wine and peanuts and crisps. Phew! Narrow escape.

The half live of MJ is 5 days so makes much more sense to me to reduce the dose but keep the weekly injection so that the amount in your system is more constant otherwise going to be dealing with highs and lows especially with a high dose.

Obvs once down to 2.5 it might make sense at that point to spread out doses, although I’m planning to microdose weekly eg 1.25mg a week.

However am sure the doctor has experience - perhaps it’s good to be more tested in the 10-13 days after a dose?!

That’s what I thought

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/09/2025 21:15

That’s what I thought

I follow your logic.
After 5 days the level in your system is 50% of what it was originally.
After a further 5 days it halves again so by day 10 the level is only 25% of what it was originally.

I posted on Sunday about switching to Pharmulous. I am now a Pharmulous customer. I placed an order on Sunday night and it just arrived. 10mg pen with an expiry date of March 2027 so 18 months to use it. Really well wrapped as well with ice pack, foil bag and wool.

i also had a consultation with them this morning. Told them I would like to steadily titrate down and planned to buy a 7.5mg next month. We discussed a potential future break in ordering and he confirmed I could restart within 12 months if I saw weight gain. When I get to the break in ordering point I will get it confirmed in writing as it’s still several months away so anything can happen re guidance and what they are allowed to do. All in all really happy with them.

Yah !!
I thought they were very quick and professional

I have a maintenance call with them Tom

Do you think pharmacies get Mounjaro on sale or return? The reason I ask is that a couple of weeks ago I had a consultation with my local pharmacy about becoming their customer. The consultation was good but the price of a 7.5mg pen was £280 so far above the online pharmacies prices. I left with an agreement that I didn’t need a pen till the 23rd September.

I ordered from Pharmulous on Sunday night and received my pen today. So tomorrow I was going to cancel my order at my local pharmacy but I have just had a text to say the prescription is ready. A week earlier than agreed! My plan is to go in tomorrow and say that we agreed it was to be ready on the 23rd but I have now obtained one elsewhere so don’t need it. Do you think that is ok?

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2025 18:47

Tricky as if they ordered it in for you they may say you need to have

sylv165 · 16/09/2025 19:47

Can I join please? Today is my 1 year Mounjaro anniversary and just in time I have reached my goal weight. I’ve gone from 12st 4lbs to 8st 7lbs. I’m only 5ft so could go a little further, but I’m happy enough with my weight and want to make sure all the lovely new clothes I’ve bought still fit! I have a bit of a stash in the fridge that will keep me going until January/February depending on how I eek them out, and trying to decide what to do after that. My current inclination is to use the ones to titrate down, then try and go it alone. But the thought of life without MJ is scary!

MargoLivebetter · 16/09/2025 19:58

Welcome @sylv165 and congratulations on all that you’ve lost. Glad to hear you have plenty of supply to keep you going if you need it. Keep us posted as to how it goes.

It’s worth asking… it will depend on the volume of their MJ trade..

JudgingJudy · 17/09/2025 00:39

I'm on a MJ break at the moment. I went up to a 5mg dose, reached a BMI of 24/5, from 27.5 with high cholestrol. My cholesterol had dropped too, down to 5 but I hope to do better. Anyway I got Covid in August, felt really poorly after and I'm trying to train for a sports event in October and had felt quite sluggish on MJ. Anyway, decided on a MJ pause.

I'm definitely eating more and the weight is creeping up. I'm a way I don't mind, as I'm weight training too. I don't want to go above a BMI of 25 though. I plan to go back on MJ in October. I have a 2.5 pen in the fridge. I'm hoping to reach BMI 23-24.

Thank you @MagnoliaTreePetals for that really informative post. I may get a 5mg pen and use it for half doses. I've seen other posts saying consultants weren't bothered about the 30 days, and I'm OK with that too.

I'd love to maintain on 2.5mg fortnightly.I

Did your consultant have any other gems to share? Had he any thoughts on Wegovy? I'm considering it for maintenance.

Zempy · 17/09/2025 07:30

Hopping on to test the waters!

I am a Jan 25 starter who was obese with shockingly high cholesterol, just under 9!!! I have gone from 13:7 to 8:12 and am 5ft 4 and 60 years old.

I am reaching the stage where maintaining my current weight is probably a good idea, although part of me would like to lose two or three more pounds, targeting my huge bust and tummy pouch. It would probably come off my face or bum though, which would be problematic.

I am currently on 10mg, titrating down from 12. I can already feel that I am eating more. However, I am also working away from home, so there’s hotel breakfast and drinks with colleagues etc. I think I will do better when I’m in my usual routine.

Anyway, I might hop on from time to time asking for advice from more experienced maintenance people. I don’t intend to stop MJ in the short to mid term.

Azuresky68 · 17/09/2025 07:56

@sylv165 well done on a great weight loss. Very similar to me re height, goal weight. Aged 69, just under 5 foot and staying around 8 st 5/7 pounds. On my last 15 mg then planning to titrate down. Currently jabbing every 8 days. Replaced size 14's with size 8, mainly selling and buying on Vinted. Very scared about regaining. My plan was to stay on MJ indefinitely but the cost is a bit too much now.
The support in the August 2024 thread has been invaluable. I also keep up to date on here.
All the very best to all the maintainers here...still a big journey ahead. Let's hope we succeed in our maintenance plans 🤞🧡🤞

Azuresky68 · 17/09/2025 08:02

@Blondeshavemorefun and @Choux Pharmulous sounds great. I have 3 pens in stock, so I probably don't need to sign up with them yet? Will keep them in mind for sure 👍

MJ122025 · 17/09/2025 08:10

Another vote for Pharmulous. I had a look at them after reading a post on here and ordered a pen. It came within 2 days. I cancelled the one I had on order with Oushk but even with the £10 cancellation charge I still saved money. Plan to stick with them going forward.

MargoLivebetter · 17/09/2025 08:13

Hello @Zempy fantastic loss and health improvements. I bet you must feel so much better. Keep us posted as to how you get on.

Pharmalous is sounding very good so far, which is encouraging. I was reading an article about all the other GLP type of medications currently being tested and due for launch next year or the year after. I think there is going to be a transformation in the treatment of obesity in the years to come. Hopefully, that will lead to more flexibility and options for maintenance too.

Hello, I stopped MJ just over a month ago having reached my goal weight and annoyingly my joint pain has come back slowly. Ive gone from happily exercising and doing squats to not being able to do any. Has anyone else found this since stopping? I wasn’t sure if I should start a new thread but thought here was probably a good place to ask people if they have found the same, hope that’s okay?

SteveHarringtonsHair · 17/09/2025 08:20

Hello all.

Can I join please?
Reached my GW of 126lbs this morning and am very happy and excited to see how the next part of the process goes.

I’m planning on titrating down over the next few months. I went to 10mg and started on 7.5mg last week. Had some side effects from that jab though which was unexpected and unwelcome.
Has that happened to anyone else?

I’ve no intention of regaining, although I have given myself a buffer of 7lbs just to see how things go in the beginning.

Good luck for the future all.

Zempy · 17/09/2025 08:22

Waves to @SteveHarringtonsHair

MargoLivebetter · 17/09/2025 08:31

Welcome @Sofasurf and @SteveHarringtonsHair . Congratulations to you both on hitting goal weight.

@Sofasurf I'm riddled with 3 different types of arthritis and I noticed a huge improvement whilst on MJ. It even showed up in my regular MRI. I definitely noticed that the aches and pains ramped back up after stopping but not to the extent they were before. My diet makes a big difference. If the sugary, carby stuff starts increasing, so does the inflammation. Sadly, the weather does too and I've noticed in the last few weeks, the aches have increased again since the weather changed.

@SteveHarringtonsHair I think some other posters found that as they got closer to their goal or even passed it, they had to drop doses, as the side effects got worse on the higher doses. Keep us posted on how it all goes.

Sofasurf · 17/09/2025 08:37

@MargoLivebetter Thank you for replying, that’s amazing that it showed on your MRI. It’s miserable, damp and rainy today, maybe that is making it worse, that hadn’t occurred to me, thank you. I am managing to keep sugar to a minimum but will maybe start a food to diary as well. Thank you again.

MargoLivebetter · 17/09/2025 08:46

@Sofasurf yes it was amazing. For the first time since I've been monitored there were no signs of inflammation on the MRI. I think it is too much to be a coincidence!

Thanks @Azuresky68, it sounds like we are twins in height, weight and vinted obsessions 😂. Currently searching for some nice winter jumpers now that the weather has turned!

MagnoliaTreePetals · 17/09/2025 09:10

No further words of wisdom from my Dr at present @JudgingJudy . My next phone call with him is early October so I will ask him then. However I do remember when I first met him, he explained that Mounjaro had a number of proven benefits over Wegovy. At that point we were discussing losing weight as opposed to maintaining though.

@MargoLivebetter I had to have a lot of hip surgery in my teens, and ever since I hit my 30's I find that my hip gets quite painful for a few days in the Autumn and again in the spring, as the weather changes. first few times it worried me as I thought it was signs I needed early hip replacement, but it usually fades away after a week or so. Since the wear and tear induced aches and pains of middle age, (Im mid 50's) I have found something similar with a lot of my joints. However much better now I am 5 stone down, and also I try not to heave heavy furniture and suitcases around!

Totally agree with @MargoLivebetter , carbs also have an impact on aching joints. Mid 30's I discovered I was allergic to Wheat, so pretty much went gluten free. I noticed a huge improvement in digestion and aching joints as a knock on effect.

🖐hello @Zempy

After a 10 day interval between jabs I have still lost 1lb. However I am sticking at 10 days for the next 2 jabs as I have to have an operation on my hand, and must have a 7 day gap between jab and anaesthetic, so it just works out that way. After that I will continue to increase the gap between jabs.
Going to Portugal tomorrow for a few days, so it's great to have lost a couple of extra pounds over the past 4 weeks, gives me a bit of a buffer! 💃
