Can't believe we filled up a whole thread! Welcome to thread 2.

On a positive note to start us off, I've lost 1lb of the two that I gained from my autumnal apple crumble caper. Filling full of resolve and pleased to know I can gain a pound or two (which is of course completely normal) and then lose them again.

@20bloodypounds thank you. I like the thought of soup for breakfast. Soup is one of my favourite foods.

@FurForksSake I also feel like I am on holiday in Slimland.

I am titrating down and maintaining well. If I get to a point where I start gaining back more than a few pounds, I will maintain at that dosage level and not come off completely.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2025 18:44

@MargoLivebetter I def think they are good

Whoops - wrong thread. Will ask MNHQ to delete the above post.

@MargoLivebetter Soup for breakfast is so good. Many years ago I was on holiday in Vietnam and trekking in remote areas. We stayed with a family and they gave us soup for breakfast - the leftovers from the night before with stock and veg.

I have loved it ever since. Mr Kellog (and his sweetened oats and corn) can piss off!

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2025 21:10

Soup seems weird for breakie 😂

sylv165 · 11/10/2025 08:41

Soup for breakfast? Madness 😂

Those of you who have completely stopped MJ. Are you taking anything else to reduce appetite/cravings? I just read an email from Nutrition Geeks about an apple cider vinegar supplement they are bringing out that they claim reduces cravings. Made me wonder if anyone has found anything that helps with that. I might try and add some more chia seeds to things as I taper off, and I have also heard psyllium husk is also good for making you feel full for longer

MargoLivebetter · 11/10/2025 09:12

@sylv165 , no I'm not taking any suppressant supplements. I feel like I tried everything going over the years (including psyllium husk and chia seeds, although I haven't tried apple cider vinegar sups) and I'm not sure anything like that ever worked for me. What I find most helpful is eating lots of protein at every meal. I try to hit 30g at each meal. Don't always make it but I do usually manage at least 20g. It makes a massive difference to how long I feel full for.

I agree with the protein point @MargoLivebetter. I have realised that I have eaten a lot more carbs this week and was wondering if that was behind my hunger yesterday. I did have a massive steak for dinner to make up for it!

Berberine works a treat for me. I'm tapering down from 15mg, now at 7.5mg and if I get cravings towards end of week or grumbling tummy, it stops it immediately and let's me stick to a deficit as I still want to lose half a stone to get to 9 st. I'm now bmi 23.5 9st 6.9lbs. I take liquid berberine from amazon, but half the recommended on hungrier days towards end of week as I'm still on mounjaro. When I fully come off I'll take the full amount. It does lower blood sugar too, so I don't take it early on in week as I was getting dizzy spells.
I was prediabetic before MJ so need all the help I can get when I fully come off.

sylv165 · 11/10/2025 09:50

Interesting @Mysticmaiden I’ve not heard of Berberine. I am also prone to that dizzy, shaky low blood sugar feeling so I am tempted to give that a go

It would be best for when you fully come off. A lot of reviews out there for berberine. Works within 10 mins for me being liquid rather than capsules. Give it a go! To be honest the dizzy spells this week may have been as I was coming down with a GI bug, could be covid as I now also have headache, sore throat, headache 🙈 I was on berberine 3 weeks and sometimes taking full dose fine throughout until started getting dizzy start of this week, but wasn't ill until Friday morning so assumed was berberine.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2025 10:12

Hi, the Apple Vinegar doesn’t work. I tried it years ago.

MagnoliaTreePetals · 11/10/2025 10:25

There is a brilliant Zoe Podcast episode this week. Especially with regards to what you were posting about @sylv165 @MargoLivebetter
Explains why a low carb diet is the best way to achieve a weight loss, and keep it off. I had not heard of Leptin resistance before.

I like to watch it on YouTube as I don't get distracted, but it is also available as a podcast you can just listen to.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2025 10:41

What is berberine

SnacklessWonder · 11/10/2025 11:42

@sylv165 No, not using anything at all to surpress appetite, but I never really had food cravings or anything to start with. I was overweight because I was a) lazy and b) overate way too much - just generally big portions.

Tohaveandtohold · 11/10/2025 14:08

@sylv165 , I’m not using anything to suppress my appetite. I can say almost all my weight gain has been during breastfeeding because I always get hungry. Looking at my NHS history, I’ve gained 1.5 stones after bf DC1 then my weight stayed the same for almost 5 years when it was next checked at my 12 week check for DC2. Similar weight gain when I was breastfeeding her and then DC3 as I’m always so hungry but other times, my appetite is not unusual.
I started the jab the week I stopped bf DC3 and for the 4 pens I had, I felt full quickly. Sweet cravings never stopped I just switched sweets and chocolates for healthy alternatives, drank lots of water and was doing weight training, these are things I’ve never committed to before. I never experienced the full appetite suppression people talk about (I didn’t get past 5mg so maybe higher doses would have had that effect)
I’ve been off the jab now for almost 8 months and my appetite has not changed a single bit from when I was on the jab. I’m not extremely hungry, I eat a good volume of protein, less carbs and snack on fruits and healthy alternatives and I’ve been fine. Other than the initial weight gain when I just stopped, I’ve gone on to lose 8lbs, I’m sitting in the middle of a healthy BMI and even when I went on holiday, I gained weight, came back home, had a reset and lost the weight and I’ve been stable.
Saying that, I have a colleague that swears by the Apple Cider vinegar thing. She’s never hungry and she says she only eats because she has to. Like she can choose to eat just one meal a day and her belly won’t grumble.

sylv165 · 11/10/2025 14:24

Thanks everyone, in preparing to stop MJ I do feel like I would like to try something to curb the cravings. I have a horrible feeling that my carb cravings will come back with a vengeance- maybe I’m being overly negative but I’d feel better if I had a few options in my back pocket just in case.

I gained weight really gradually over the years, my problem is not so much gaining weight as struggling to lose weight. I would generally only put 2/3lbs on in a year but could just never get it back off again - MJ has made me realise that my 1200cal “diet” just isn’t restrive enough. I need to be going below that to actually lose - the joys of being short!

Thelittlestranger · 11/10/2025 18:06

I'm also short, and to lose the weight while on MJ I averaged 900 cals a day. Now I'm off, and tracking, I'm maintaining on 1500 cals a day (average as I eat less at the start of the week, and more on the weekend) But - I exercise most days, running and weight training to allow me to do that.

No more weird than porridge, or kippers, or devilled kidneys, or kegeree... just a savoury, delicious meal. I had it first in Vietnam, where it was the previous night's left overs made into soup. Honestly, soup for breakfast is just fab. (but not according to Mr Kellog who invented the other kind of breakfast).

20bloodypounds · 11/10/2025 19:40

@sylv165 I'm also short. And I've had to adjust to the realisation that the calories I can eat per day are much less than for other taller, larger framed friends. For me, a coffee and a cake can literally be a third of my daily calories (flat white at 120 cals and a cinnamon bun at 330 calories) and no real nutrition - protein or fibre.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2025 23:57

I am thankful for my 5ft 7 inches

daffodilandtulip · 12/10/2025 09:19

@20bloodypounds @sylv165
It's mad how little us shorties actually need to eat to survive (no wonder we got so fat!).

Mysticmaiden · 12/10/2025 09:51

5ft 3 here, my maintenance is 1519 cals have to eat 1019 to lose. Could never have done it without WLI. No wonder people struggle to lose weight! I did try Joe wicks body coach exercise and calorie counted when I was 13st eating upto 1500 cals a day max and exercising 5 days a week for 6 weeks and lost 2lbs in that whole time! I'm now 9st 7lbs.
