I just wondered... Whether you've just started your WL, or half way there, or nearly/actually at goal, what are you enjoying wearing at the moment? Or what are you looking forward to wearing, or any goal weight wish list things? Has your style changed at all?

I've only just started (two weeks ago), so I've only lost about half a stone, but I look so much less bloated on this lighter, low carb diet, so I've been able to wear a couple of dresses that I have barely worn, because although they fit, I hated my stomach in them. So that's a small win for me!

I had clothes that I have bought over the last probably 20-25 years, neatly packed for that day when I finally managed to lose weight.

Some of that stuff is too big for me now. It's fantastic. I'm wearing jeans and jackets and tops that I bought because they were too beautiful to leave in the shop - some absolutely gorgeous jackets.

I'm dressing so much better than I used to - purely for the joy of it, and I haven't even had to go shopping yet.

Oh, and it's the size of the clothes - they're tiny (I've gone from a 22+ to a 14-16) - the trousers don't look like clown trousers any more, they're just normal sized, so even folding them is a pleasure and folding the clothes is my least favourite bit of laundry :)

Somethingsnapped · 01/09/2025 15:30

@GiantTeddyIsTired That's fantastic, good for you! It must feel wonderful. I bet the majority of us have clothes tucked away somewhere waiting for the magical day when they fit! I have a box of clothes somewhere (things I couldn't bear to part with) that I put aside for my daughter for when she's older. I wonder if I'll get beck into them again. Maybe not, as my goal weight is not actually as small as I was when those clothes fit. Though, who knows... Perhaps I'll readjust my goals as time passes! I'm aiming for a size 12 (I'm tall), and the boxed ones are sizes 8 and 10.

I’m so enjoying buying trousers and skirts with a fixed waist band i.e no elasticated waists. And the clothes look so small!! Can’t believe they fit!

That's brilliant!

I bought some Lucy and Yak jeans on ebay before I started on MJ. I bought them in a size 14, thinking they had an elasticated waistband (I'm usually a size 16), but when they arrived I realised I had been mistaken, and so they didn't fit. I have them tucked into the back of my wardrobe. Now I'm on MJ, I really hope I can get into them somewhere in the near future!

I’m enjoying tucking T-shirts and tops in to my jeans and wearing belts. I was an apple shape so nothing was ever tucked in before

Bipaloss · 01/09/2025 18:00

Clothes started being loose after 1st (3weeks in)

got new underwear (2 sizes down) and bra (1 cup down and 2 size down) at 2st

started throwing/selling away clothes 2-3 st

now at 45 lb down (24 weeks) got new jeans 3 sizes down this week

I still have another 25 lb to go to goal and will hang on to some clothes even though I look like a potato sack, I get away with loose tops until goal, but not pants anymore (they were falling off)

PresidentBarklett · 01/09/2025 18:00

My weight seems to have all come off my stomach, which means I'm wearing lots of tucked in tops as that area is all relatively flat now. I have a little waist that goes in!

Sadly, my arms and legs are flabby as fuck so I'm still on three quarter length sleeves etc. Tbh, I doubt I'll ever be one of those lithe women you see swanning around in sleeveless tops and city shorts.

Wildfairy · 01/09/2025 21:14

I’m at goal, and in maintenance and I’ve bought so much from vinted, I’m a size 8-10 now, down from an 18. Likely I was bigger to be honest, I didn’t wear fixed waist bands,

Right now I am enjoying wide leg trousers, as they suit my shape, I’m a rectangle with long legs/short body, and a flat tummy now, and they are mainly from Reiss or me +em, people sell them so cheaply and in excellent condition.

I wear them with a close fitting top. I’ve also got some lovely slouchy cashmere blend roll neck jumpers for autumn winter too that seem to go well. I can wear them now, as they don’t make me look bigger, before I just looked like a massive potato in something like that, I also wear a lot of sleeve less tops or silk vests , even though my arms are the only bit of me with loose skin, it’s crepey on my upper arms when I move, but you can also see muscle definition. I don’t really give a shit to be fair. I will take the loose skin.

I was only wearing black before, leggings, black jumpers, stretchy trousers and skirts, now I’m in to neutrals, creams, tan, beige, Taupe, very pale greens and blues and a little navy, I wear a lot of pale colours. I only ever wear black rarely now, and on my top half. Leggings are only for the gym . I never wear them any where else.not even in the house,

its one of my little pleasures actually, getting ready in the morning snd putting some beautiful clothes on, I had a wardrobe clear out and there is now nothing in there I don’t love or doesn’t fit me, its wonderful after years of feeling like shit and looking it, dressing just to hide the fat rolls. Always in the same style, black, stretchy and big.

today I was working from home and wearing a beautiful pair of very pale silk blend seafoam green wide leg trousers, a round neck cream sleeveless vest., both from Reiss. Cost me about 40 quid inc postage and buyer protection, both brand new with tags, and cost 250 odd quid new from the retailer. The trousers are dry clean only, but I cold hand washed in the bath and they came out perfectly, every day I wear something lovely and it does help with the motivation in maintenance.

my husband has also started on the jabs, he’s a stone and a half to go and he’s now also looking forward to buying some new clothes, and having a clear out. Today he put a pair of trousers on he wasn’t able to get into that were very expensive , he bought from the retailer new, and didn’t fit him, he was really chuffed.

Oh God I am loving clothes again and spending far too much on vinted. I am back in things I haven't worn for years too. The only thing I am struggling with is bras, despite having saved loads I grew out of none are right and everything I try digs into my armpits.

Comedycook · 01/09/2025 21:52

I bought some cream linen trousers and have been loving them...I only ever wore black leggings on my lower half before

BerfyTigot · 01/09/2025 22:09

@Wildfairy what an inspiration!

I currently live in leggings or smart jeans if I'm going out 🙄 Your outfit sounds gorgeous 😍

I long for the day when I can wear beautiful clothes around the house. And be able to buy things on vinted with a chance that they'll fit.

Good to know that cold hand washing works instead of dry cleaning.

I have a pair of monsoon jeans from 2003 that I long to get into again. I think I'm going to photograph them as a reminder to stay on track.

FlappyFish · 01/09/2025 22:17

I’m honestly enjoying wearing everything as I’m arguably skinny now and I’m toned as hell after putting in the hours at the gym. My gym clothes have gone from t shirts to vests. I have so many clothes now because just buying them in a 6 (!) or 8 makes me feel bloody wonderful after feeling like a troll most of my life.

Kaggi9 · 01/09/2025 22:21

I started in January and am just over 6 stone down. Today for the first time I was wearing size 10 jeans and I’ve had to buy new clothes for work as nothing fits me. The most amazing one though is that I’m going to a formal event later this week and have bought a fitted dress - I’ve never worn anything like this before!!

Bra fitting a must after weight loss, they just redistribute themselves. Get thee to M&S or bravissimo if large of nork.

GloriaHotcakes · 02/09/2025 07:18

I think the clothes feeling and looking better, and wearing what I like rather than what hides me is my biggest motivator.

Checkthemeaning · 02/09/2025 07:20

I’ve been wearing shorts all summer & probably haven’t worn them since I was a kid!!! And I’ve been able to finally wear nice knickers instead of high waisted, full brief, stomach covering types!

PurpleCoo · 02/09/2025 07:33

I have been avoiding buying new clothes until I reach my goal weight as it seems a waste of money to buy things that will be only worn for a month or so. However, I started as a 16 and while my dresses are fine with a belt, my walking trousers are ridiculously huge now, with huge amounts of material bunched up, and the waist falls down loose around my hips without a belt. So I bought some cheap ones from Mountain Warehouse and they are a size 10!! A 10!! So, I know that Mountain Warehouse clothes are sized very large, but it still feels amazing to be in size 10 trousers. I bought some size 14 cropped trousers 3 years ago, but gained weight shortly after so they still had the labels on as I could never get them done up. They are now too baggy, so I guess I am a comfortable 12 in most shops now.

I have so many clothes from the past that I can wear again, so it's like having a while new wardrobe without having to spend money! (Well, except for walking trousers!!)

flameprincess · 02/09/2025 07:46

I am still quite early in my journey but it's been lovely having more of a choice of what to wear in my wardrobe rather than just wearing 'what still fits.'

BabyCatFace · 02/09/2025 08:50

I bought a pair of jeans!! Haven't been able to wear jeans comfortably since I put weight on, they are either too tight around the waist or too loose around the bum (and my ego wouldn't let me buy a size 20 in jeans 🙈) I ordered a 16 because I still don't believe I've lost 2 dress sizes and they are loose but they look good!!

lissie123 · 02/09/2025 09:23

I just bought some jeans on Vinted. Put them in this morning and they are too big - size 12. I’m guessing I’ll have to put them back on Vinted and look for dare I say it a size 10!!!

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 02/09/2025 09:58

Going from an 18/20 down to a 16 is so nice. You can buy clothes in pretty much any shop so the choice is so much better. Trying not to buy much though as I don’t want to be a 16 for long. Hoping another stone will take me to a 14 and then I’ll need to start buying clothes as I haven’t been that size since I was 18. I did buy a new pair of jeans from jigsaw at the weekend in a 16 and I can’t get over how much smaller my hips look. I think I only really bought them as I was so delighted they fitted and I was on holiday (and realised how rubbish and baggy my current jeans were looking). It was just so nice to go into shops I wouldn’t usually fit into their clothes.

I have absolutely loads of bras in various sizes from while I was gaining weight so I am trying to manage with those until I stop losing and everything settles down.

Kaggi9 that dress is gorgeous

Somethingsnapped · 02/09/2025 16:21

So lovely to hear of everyone's clothing wins! I've only lost half a stone so far (out of the 3 I'm aiming for), but I look so much less bloated, so I'm enjoying the clothes I do have a bit more. I'm finding reading this thread is doing wonders for inspiration!

Well done on your progress so far and keep going! Like you, I was size 16 (I’m short), I had a 3 stone target, which I reached a couple of months ago and I’ve lost a few more pounds since then. I will be tapering off from next week.
Enjoy the new clothes!
