Worked Out How Much I Have Spent

In my usual bury my head in the sand about all matters financial, I hadn’t really worked out how much I’ve spent on MJ. In a moment of boredom this morning I have.

14 months going up to 12.5 and back down to 5 for maintenance. Swapped from Slimming Clinic to Oushk after 5 months.

£1800ish in total for 5 doses per pen.

I reckon around £30 a month which is less than a takeaway and definitely less than I was spending on alcohol.

So worth it for 5 and a half stone gone.

I hope I can continue to afford the new prices and really feel for the people who now can’t afford to start. I hope prices come down or new drugs enter the market. It has changed my life.

Did you mean £130 per month?

Sellenis · 28/08/2025 07:35

£1800 divided by 14 is £128.57 a month, or divided by 60 weeks it's £30, so guessing you meant £30 a week.

I have some varicose veins, which I hate. I am getting them blasted privately, as they no longer do this on the NHS. That will cost me £4000, for the whole procedure, taking 1.5 hours and an assessment and follow up appointment. You have changed your life - you can justify your cost. And no one has the right to judge anyone who wants to improve their health or appearance!

ageee op, we also need to look at how much we spent on food and drink to get to the obese state in the first place, for me, for example I did an average of 2 bottles of wine a week, that’s 20 quid right there, then when I add in the increased portion sizes , snacks etc, and food is hugely expensive it really adds up,

im not really saving as I developed a vinted addiction, lol, but for me this was never about the money, it was always about health. Although I can’t say the price changes haven’t pissed me right off.

I'd consider it a bargain!

I did slimming world for over 3 years and it took me all that time to lose the same amount of weight that I have lost on MJ in 9 months. (Putting it all back on post SW is a whole other thread, and I am not intending to derail this one 😀)

Starting on the lower doses, and using discounts codes and swapping to the cheapest provider every month, I worked out that the membership for SW was slightly cheaper than the cost of the MJ, but buying specific SW friendly food and eating a mountain of pasta for example (I know know) I think SW cost me much more overall, especially as my food bill has gone down on MJ as I am eating less.

I definitely think that MJ feels much better value for me and I certainly don't begrudge the cost of it!

I've been on it for 29 weeks so far. I'm still on 5 mg, use the extra dose, move pharmacies and use discounts. So far, it's worked out at £16.80 a week for me. I've lost over 4 stone, so It's worked out about £8 per lb lost.
