So miserable :(

Hi guys, this is just a woe is me thread that I also hope will come with useful advice from you clever bunch!

I've had 13 weeks on 1.25/2.5 with no side effects except constipation (5-7 days!) but it really hasn't bothered me at all, I've felt completely fine.

9 days ago on Sunday I made the terrible mistake of going up to 5mg and OH MY GOD I've been a mess ever since. On Tuesday it started. The worst sulphur burps ever (fucking vile) and then nearly 3 days of explosive 💩. Like up hourly throughout the night, atrocious. It faded off and I felt traumatised but ok.

So on Sunday I reduced down to 3.33mg. Another terrible mistake. It's started again! Today I'm rough as houses again.

I am so so so miserable.

All advice appreciated and any promises it'll get better gratefully accepted too. I'm definitely going to skip next Sunday.

Skip Sunday, then go back to 2.5 . That doesn't sound fun what you've had happen to you .

Mummanorman · 26/08/2025 20:18

I've had the same situation
My body dosent love 2.5 but as long as I stick to 'safe' foods I'm fine. I've tried to go up to 5mg on two separate occasions but both times I've been hugging the toilet for 2-3 days completely traumatised since.
I've skipped 2 weeks to let my levels come down and will start again and stay on 2.5mg for good.
Although the suppression isn't amazing it's actually enough to keep me on the right path

lovemycbf · 26/08/2025 20:19

I went up a dose and had diarrhoea for 8 days straight almost constantly and ended up in hospital terribly dehydrated and had to have 3 potassium drips, one rehydration and one magnesium drip as was so unwell
I wouldn’t go back on it after that as I’ve never felt so unwell in my life and don’t feel I can trust it to not do the same again

ThirdStorm · 26/08/2025 20:20

Agreed with others, step back your dose. And buy yourself some psyllium husk. I take a capsule every day. Best thing I’ve ever done, I’m so regular now!

camerontucker · 26/08/2025 21:32

I had to give up MJ completely as the sulphur burps and constant running to the toilet was too much. A good probiotic might help if you want to persevere, I changed to Wegovy and although the losses aren’t as rapid as suppression isn’t as high I feel totally fine on it. Took a while to kick in but happily sitting at 1.7 with no desire to move up.

Mysticmaiden · 26/08/2025 21:47

I'd definitely delay or skip your dose. The 3.33mg still was too high as the overall concentration in your body was too high after the 5mg. Stick to 2.5mg for now. Only move up if your suppression and satiety is low and food noise returns. When you do go up in future, if you are still suppressed or ill on jab day, wait a few more days before you jab again.
As for the side effects, are you drinking plenty of water? Are you eating little and often? It's quite common to have those side effects as the stomach emptying slows down so if you eat when full, it causes burps but it also is due to sulphur food fermenting in stomach.
Avoid fatty, greasy and carb heavy foods. Eat smaller meals and stick to higher protein and lower carb.
I've been ill twice in almost 11 months and both times it was after eating pizza.

PearlsPearl · 27/08/2025 09:05

Sorry I probably should have said NO HORROR STORIES PLEASE, I feel upset enough. Sorry to those who've had terrible times.

@Mysticmaiden I eat really well, I've not felt ill once in the 13 weeks I was on the 1.25/2.5mg. It's literally just the 5 that's killed me off! I'm so annoyed at myself for doing the 3.33.

OP posts:
Choux · 27/08/2025 09:19

Don’t beat yourself up. It sounds like you did all the right things. Where to dose once you realise 5 is too much is trial and error and now you know 3.33 is also too much. Take a break till you feel like starting again and then try 2.5mg or even 2mg I you feel nervous.

Hope you feel better soon. And look in the bright side - 2.5mg is relatively cheap so if you can do your whole journey on that you will save £££££!

MumofSpud · 27/08/2025 09:24

I started on my first 5mg last night. I’m at work today feeling cautious (and v nauseous) and the office is full of sweets / chocolate people have brought back off their holidays - even writing that makes me feel queasy! But at least there’s zero temptation!

ThirdStorm · 27/08/2025 10:02

@PearlsPearl Some of us are really sensitive to MJ, I've stayed on 2.5mg the whole time and lost 5st. I had to eat very plainly for the first few months (fish/meat and veg) but that improved and I had way more variety and the occasional treat after that.

PearlsPearl · 27/08/2025 11:25

Thanks so much. @MumofSpud wishing you all the best xx

Peppermint capsules and Imodium!

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 27/08/2025 12:27

A daily probiotic with digestive enzymes.

What was your rationale for moving up doses? It sounds like you need to go back down.

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 27/08/2025 12:45

Do take Immodium for the diarrhoea; it really helps. I had your experience the first time I went up to 5mg and I didn't take any as I had it in my head that it's a bad idea - which I think is true for bugs/food poisoning when your body needs to expel the thing that's making you ill. But for Mounjaro-induced diarrhoea, it's a godsend. Also peppermint tea helps a little with the sulphur burps.

I can't tolerate 5mg. I tried building up slowly after that first time but it happened again. Then I made it to 5mg in tiny increments, was fine for three or four months and then it happened again. It's just too much for me. I do 40 clicks of a 5mg pen now and that's my ceiling. Last time I tried 48 clicks, the diarrhoea was back. So I am sticking where I am! Weight loss has slowed, but I am five stone down and only a couple more to go. I am losing 3-4lbs a month and my BMI is under 30 for the first time in over a decade. Plus, with the price increases I am now very grateful to only be paying for a lower dose pen.

At least you tried, now you know its too high and will know where to go next. Its also a lot cheaper with the new price increases coming up!

I'm the opposite got up to 15mg which was too strong for me, the others wore off quickly but I was prediabetic so needed the higher doses. Now I'm at bmi 24.0 the higher doses are too strong and I can barely eat, though I don't get other side effects, so I'm tapering down.
May be worth trying probiotics, as someone else has said previously, I've used them before and they resolved my gluten intolerance!

PearlsPearl · 27/08/2025 20:20

Haha, it'll definitely be cheaper, but I went up because it wasn't effective anymore :(

Ermengarde · 27/08/2025 20:26

I had something very similar 3 months into taking Wegovy (it was Ozempic at that time). I went from zero side effects to sulphur burps to vomiting sporadically then to basically vomiting for an entire weekend, I was so ill.

I took a complete break for a month, restarted at the lowest dose and it never happened again. I was able to progress up the levels with no problems.

That was 2 years ago and I’ve since moved to Mounjaro, also with no problems, and am over 6 stone lighter.

I have no idea what caused it, but it was like my body needed a reset to recover and then I was fine. It was horrible though, you really have my sympathies!

PeachSnail · 27/08/2025 20:44

I think some of us are so-called Mounjaro "super responders", so we just can't tolerate higher doses.

I gradually moved up to 3.75mg and had 5 days of constant diarrhoea. I waited about 11 days before jabbing again. I made sure I felt completely better and waited until the levels in my system had reduced to something like 1.33mg (according to the Shotsy estimate) so I could be sure I'd be ok. Then I think I went back to 2.5mg to be extra safe. I'm still only taking 3mg many weeks later and I'm not sure I'll ever go above that.

I think I'm a super responder as I literally feel a wave of mild nausea almost immediately after jabbing. I know some people feel nothing at all until they reach the higher doses so I think everyone just has different sensitivities.

Looking on the bright side, things will work out cheaper for us in the long run as we'll need to stick to micro dosing from smaller, cheaper pens 😜🙌

Hope you feel better soon. This will pass and things will work out for you if you stick to doing smaller doses in future ♥️

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 28/08/2025 07:19

PearlsPearl · 27/08/2025 20:20

Haha, it'll definitely be cheaper, but I went up because it wasn't effective anymore :(

What does 'not effective' mean? I have found my weight loss much slower than people on my start thread because I've stayed on such a low dose, but it adds up and by one year I'd lost five stone. But there are weeks I stay the same and weeks I gain - my graph is very zigzaggy. It's been the bigger picture that counts, rather than the day to day. I don't think it's possible that you can have zero response on one dose and explosive diarrhoea from nudging up a fraction. I think if you can find the highest dose at which you have no side effects and stick to it, you will carry on losing weight, even if it's a slower process.

PearlsPearl · 28/08/2025 09:43

@Ermengarde I think you're right and I just need a reset. I'm not going to jab this Sunday at all. And then will jab the following Sunday back to 2.5. I'm glad you've done so well!

@PeachSnail I'm definitely a super responder (but I've always been very sensitive to meds) as I lost weight on 4 weeks on 1.25. It definitely wasn't placebo either as usually if I'm hungry I feel physically ill, headaches, sugar crash, etc and I had none of that on the 1.25. And yes cheaper is true 😄 thanks for sharing your experience with me! I've got Shotsy so I'll have a watch of the levels.

@WeepingInASunlitRoom it was very effective for about 10 weeks but then I started getting much more hungrier and louder food noise. I didn't go up a fraction, I doubled it from 2.5 to 5. I don't mind a slower weight loss, for me the removal of food noise is my top priority. Congrats on your loss, that's amazing.
