Regarding the 5th dose

Hello All,

can someone advise me how to administer the so called 5th dose from my Mounjaro pen? The dial is stuck on 0 so unsure how to do this? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone take Turmeric pills whilst taking Mounjaro? I am concerned about neg interactions.

You can't do it just with the pen. It needs to be extracted. If you search for golden dose and mounjaro on YouTube, there are some helpful videos

Turmeric pills aren’t going to interact with Mounjaro or any thing else in all likelihood.

Getting a 5th dose out of the pen. You can use pliers or just your own hands if strong enough to force the mechanism to twist again past the 0 position. It locks there after doing four full doses, so now you have to force it round. If you can get it to move, it should then turn to the 1 position and you can do another dose. However, the internal mechanism can sometimes completely break apart when it’s forced and then the plunger won’t move to administer a dose. You can get external syringes then and extract the medication via the red seal at the end of the pen.

I get empty, sterile 1ml syringes with a needle on them and extract the medication. I Clean the red rubber bung with an alcohol wipe, stick the needle in, draw up all the liquid I can, discard the pen, turn the syringe upside down and tap to remove any air bubbles and to adjust the dose to 0.6ml, then inject as normal. Some of the tube videos are from when you could force the MJ pen to give up the 5th dose. They don't do that any more so you will need a syringe and needles. look for a video that uses this method.

get 1ml syringes, you can choose ones with needles already attached, or buy ones were you put the needles on yourself. (4mm is the same size as the MJ pen, but 8mm is also just as good)
If you buy ones with separate needles you can use one needle to draw up the medication, and then change it to a fresh one for injecting.

Get some swabs as well

When you draw it up you do get some resistance. So pull back on the syringe, relax, pull back etc and the liquid will enter the syringe bit by bit. That's quite normal when drawing up meds from a sealed container.

Then get rid of any air bubbles, just like you do with your normal pen.

I recently discovered when I was really annoyed that I was able to break the pen and turn it the full way which then allowed me to extract the remaining dose. I had been extracting via a new syringe for the past 8 months.

So it’s not impossible to do it via the pen, you just need to engage hulk mode.

I’ve read quite a few posts on here where the pen has broken completely when forced, and the liquid has been lost. So it is a gamble.

The pens are now made with a failsafe which will break the mechanism if you force it, unlike the previous style where it was possible to do a 'hard twist'. You were likely either lucky or you had an old style pen. If you have syringes and needles on hand then it's still possible to extract the liquid if the pen does break.

When I took it, I used to force the mechanism for the fifth dose. But then that no longer worked (maybe the pens changed), so I extracted it with a syringe.

Well unless simple online pharmacy have been keeping or have received old pens (although the exp date on the last 2 pens I managed to work it were both Feb 2027) then it’s possible even if they say it’s not but yes it is a risk and it’s very hard to do. I’ve got the needles so if I’m annoyed, I’ll try and break it
