Disaster - wasted a dose!

I had a whole 5th dose left in a 5mg pen and an even smaller amount from the pen before.

I’d taken 6mg last week, on the advice of someone clever on here (apologies that I can’t remember who it was) when I posted about how I’d stalled.

The 6mg worked brilliantly and I planned to do the same this week.

I drew up 0.1mls from the first pen, using a 1ml syringe and a longer blue needle, and 0.6mls from the second pen.

Like an idiot, I hadn’t bought the 32g needles fron UKMedi as they seemed expensive and attached one on the needles that came with the Mounjaro to the luer lock syringe. It seemed to attach fine and I injected myself ok but then as I pressed the plunger all the solution just dripped out onto the kitchen floor! 😱

I’m so annoyed with myself for my false economy of not buying the correct 32g needles 😡

All I could get from the second Pen was 0.3mls which is only 2.5mgs, I’ve taken that today and will take another 2.5 in a few days. I hadn’t planned it like that but was just thrown with the wasted dose.

Talk about the wrong time to be throwing it away!!

Be grateful your messing around without due care, and doing silly things with well out of in-use medication and wrong equipment, the only consequences has been a lost dose.

hannahisaspanner · 25/08/2025 15:43

Unfortunately you’ve learned the hard way that the needles for the pen are needles for the pen.

But you’ve avoided using medication past its indicated expiry - the 5th dose is using the last in a pen on day 28. I’m guessing what you were trying to use included medication on at least day 56?

ohbee · 25/08/2025 16:43

It’s not a disaster though, that’s quite extreme.

I can’t work out why you would have 2 pens with extra in them though, unless one is way past the 30 days.

Mysticmaiden · 25/08/2025 19:08

SHD medical is a lot cheaper. I get 12mm syringes and put the needle in half way. Cost me just over £5 for 10 syringes.

ComfortFoodCafe · 25/08/2025 19:14

Why are you messing about with needles & pens?! Ridiculous.

QueenOfHiraeth · 25/08/2025 23:57

I also think that, unless you are experienced with injecting, don't bother with syringes and separate needles. Insulin syringes with the needles moulded on are designed to pierce a seal, draw up medication then inject through the skin.
Like these
Diabetics have done this for years yet the MJ community tells people the needle will be blunt and you need to change them and increase the risk of contamination

clubsspadesdiamondshearts · 26/08/2025 00:02

Scary how normal it’s becoming to inject yourself with drugs and needles you bought off the internet.

Pretty much this.

Trying to take a higher dose of the medication by messing around with needles when all they need to do is eat less.

Gore this palava, with medications and needles and it still doesn't bloody work.

Fuck me - did I post in AIBU by mistake?
Oh no, it’s a thread on a board specifically about WLI 🙄

Thanks @Mysticmaiden

What is your point here? This being a WLI board doesn’t mean everyone is going to agree that messing with prescription meds is a good idea.

Gosh, so many Righteous Ritas on here tonight 🙄

OP, I feel for you! Lesson learned though, I’m sure. If it makes you feel any better, my friend knows someone who wasted not one, not two, but THREE doses by forgetting to take the needle cap off 🤦‍♀️

OnePinkDeer · 26/08/2025 22:21

Righteous Rita's about tampering with injected prescription medication without medical advice.

Very well do as you wish.
