I struggle to believe she was training for 5 hours a day when she was in her last playing days. She lumbered around the tennis court like a walrus and only relied on sheer physical strength with serving. If exercise didn't make you toned/thin then why aren't there other overweight tennis players on the tour?

People are overweight because for whatever reason, they are over eating.

There are other tennis players who aren't especially thin and struggle with their weight.

I don't watch much tennis (none in recent years, but I loved the early years of the Williams sisters) but Lindsey Davenport and Monica Seles spring to mind.

Athletes do eat thousands of calories. It's hardly surprising if some of them overeat when they start to wind down is it? It's not a moral failing. Yet the snide implication is that all women, despite the patterns of the same issues among women of all backgrounds, body types, races, professions, are just that they're lying greedy cows who are stuffing their faces.

Anyone mind an only vaguely on-topic image insert? One of my fav tweets of all time!

At no point did she say she did it for others.

god nothing makes me seethe more than women bringing down other women, can’t beleive someone actually compared Serena Williams competing to a lumbering walrus, shameful and shocking,

Horrible thing to say about one of the most exceptional sportspeople in the world.

Serina was epic but faced prejudice and abuse, and kept coming back for an incredibly long career. Remarkably few women return to elite sport after having a baby, and she was an older Mum too. We should be shouting her achievements from the rooftops not dragging her down because she struggled with her weight.

What MJ shows us is that gaining fat is often out of our control and has little to do with activity levels, and doesn't necessarily mean someone is a dreadful glutton.

I do believe her, and her exasperation.

Before kids, before even pre-menopause , we went on a five week activity holiday together. We shared a room, meals, lives, stories.

She lost 5lb. I lost 21lb. I felt for her.

Yes I eat less, but she doesn’t shovel food in her gob all day either.

As you say, you eat less.
I had someone staying with me not so long ago and then found empty wrappers in the guest room. Some people eat in secret.

I have seen lots of reports from walking holidays e.g. people doing the Camino and often the men lose weight because of the walking, but women gain weight because of the restaurants.
