Shemed January Starters - Thread 4

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 22/08/2025 18:38

Hello everyone! I completely missed the other thread was full (haven't been too well this week) so I've started this one and will tag as many people as I can think of from recent pages. Do tag anyone else you think of that might miss the new thread!

I hope everyone is okay. It's been unsettling times hasn't it with all the news about the price increases and very little from Shemed as to what they are planning. I am hopeful that of all people we will be shielded the most due to being on the Study (fingers crossed).

I weighed in this morning and took second dose of the 10mg. I seemed to put on this morning but if I take the weight I've been most of this week...

I am exactly half way to my target! And I've lost 25% of my bodyweight!

10mg - so far no burps or nausea but I am wondering if this extreme tiredness is in part due to the drug. Was eating just as I was before the last couple of days but today don't want to eat so who knows!

I'll read up and tag people if I can.

Breathe @tinyemmy
If you bring your eating back in line to where you were, it will come off. Some will be water weight (travelling and holiday food) and adaption if been very active skiing. Drink lots of water and be kind. My Christmas holiday weight took 2/3 weeks to settle back out.

Thanks@Reginaphalangeeeee1.5lbs already gone, 11.6lbs still to go for target. I'm committed to get it done it wasn't nice to see that I'm back to the top of my BMI, the joy of being short!
I'm pleased I've gone straight back to the gym and I'm tracking on nutracheck so fingers crossed.

JBJ · 24/02/2026 12:44

Well, 6 weeks off MJ and I’ve managed to lose another lb of the 4lb I initially put on. So a 1lb gain in 6 weeks overall. God, this last stone is going to be like pulling teeth 🤣🤣

Well done. What's working for you?

Fear 🤣🤣 I have gallstones, so got to stay very low fat else it really, really hurts! God knows how I’ll cope after my op. Got more weight to lose and, historically, doing it on my own hasn’t gone well.

Eek sorry! I know. I don't know what to do. I binged last night. I was so exhausted though. My ADHD medication was upped and I was exhausted from 10:30am. I'm going to give it a week to settle but this might not work for me. Tiredness is a huge danger zone for me.
Tempted to try one of many diet accountability options out there but it's yet more money, my issue is binge eating and l really hoped the ADHD medication would work

Reginaphalangeeeee · 01/03/2026 23:41

Hey @tinyemmy how are things now? Hope yoomunate feeling more in control of your eating again and being kind to yourself.

@JBJ- how have you been? Are you home now?

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGardenI miss hearing your updates, how are you?

@Kaggi9 hope new dose worked well.

I am back up to 9mg MJ and happy here.
Feel eating and exercise been good and wasn't hosed weight up with PMT.
I am however very cross it hasn't gone down with arrival of leruid as norm. Was actually feeling slimmer so not sure why I am holding 1.5 KG up.
I have just started HRT
Could it be that?

JBJ · 01/03/2026 23:47

Hi @Reginaphalangeeeee I’m now gallbladder free and back home, complete with a drain as it was a little more complicated than expected and ended up having to stay in hospital. Feel like I’ve been hit by a bus at the minute! Can’t even clear my throat without pain and the gas pain from being inflated for surgery is absolute torture, although that’s starting to fade a little now (day 2). Hoping I become a little more mobile over the next few days as I struggle with my knees and back anyway, and now I can’t use my stomach muscles either, so I’m struggling getting up and down without help. The only way is up though now!

tinyemmy · 02/03/2026 17:48

@Reginaphalangeeeeehormones are a nightmare, it definitely could be that!
I have not been more in control but have myself a good talking to and I think I am going to avoid the scales and calories and prioritise making a plan and following it.

@JBJthat sounds awful. Get well soon!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 04/03/2026 09:34

Glad you are home @JBJ and very best of luck with recovery. I have had several surgeries and always find day 2 worst (get anaesthetic blues too) then expect drastic improvement there after but just frustrated quick so just be patient with yourself. On and up!

Good plan @tinyemmy!

My PMT weight (1.5kg) seems to have come off but weight loss is seemingly very slow. Happy I have up the exercise. Sorta enjoying CT5K in the sun.
HRT- no noticeable effects just yet although a flipping headache. Not sure if that is 9mg MJ or HRT 🤷‍♀️
Think joints feel better.
Maybe more awake/less brain Fogg but that could be exercise.

Generally eating better but annoyed yesterday I gave in to a dessert (cookie dough dessert) and it was rubbish. I immediately regretted the calories. I often think like this now. I want nice things to eat but only if it's worth it. Like chocolate! But often feel guilt. I am not sure how to manage this going forward.

kittykarate · 04/03/2026 11:20

I really struggle with the 'nice things'.

I'm trying to train myself to go "If it is that nice, enjoy it, but you don't have to finish it"... and if it turns out not so nice, then for sure you don't have to finish it.

It's really hard though, trying to break through the childhood conditioning against food 'waste'.

kittykarate · 04/03/2026 11:22

My loss has really tapered off, I'm losing small amounts still, but it's more like 1kg a month if I'm lucky.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 05/03/2026 09:05

Yes me too @kittykarate
I seem to gain (Christmas and before a period) then loose that plus 1 Kg a month.
I have increased exercise and noticed my dough tummy feeling more kneadable. I suspect means I am loosing and will see results in scales but probably need to make butter diet changes.
I'm in 2 healthy meals a day but not counting calories. Just trying to prioritise protein.

JBJ · 05/03/2026 11:54

Well, I’m 6 days post op, feeling a lot more human and have just braved the scales for the first time, as my post op bloating/swelling has gone down. I’ve managed to lose just over 2lb this week! Being very careful with food still, but I’ve been eating 1200-1300 calories a day. I know theres a whole organ included within that (although the gallbladder is very small and light apparently), but I’m very happy to see movement in the right direction.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 05/03/2026 23:58

Well done @JBJ
Your continued losses are amazing! You must be very disciplined.
Glad you are feeling better.
Hope the fear of pain gone now too.

It’s genuinely fear as opposed to discipline! Daren’t eat anything with much of a fat content yet, as it can still cause issues whilst my body is adjusting to not having a gallbladder, so avoiding cheese, chocolate, red meat… all the good stuff. I’m scared that I’ll get out of control again once I can eat properly, as I’ve not been great with self control for the last 47 years 🤣🤣

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/02/2026 15:16

Good luck with the surgery @JBJ . It will be amazing to not have the pain/ fear of pain won't it!

@Mortigua I am with Pharmulous which are on the cheaper end. They have always arrived next day, let you choose your dose etc. I would fully recommend them. There's lots that are cheap for just the first month and lots of people change each month - but mybrain needed to just settle on one and I'mpleased with these guys.

They do "support maintenance" and say they will take new people bmi24 +/ prescribe to bmi 19 without issue and then its "case by case basis" for others.

Weight Maintenance Treatment Online UK | Mounjaro & Tirzepatide Support | Pharmulous

There are a lot of providers out there though.

Hope everyone is okay. I am on mn a lot less now (started full time work in October and found life quite full on!) but so so happy with mounjaro.

I am just into "overweight" with a bmi of 29.9999999!

Visually it seems the last half stone has made a big difference to others / my dress size even though the whole weight loss is slowing down a lot.

Physically I'm so much more able than when I started :) I will have hanging skin on my stomach/arms and thighs unfortunately but I'm hoping to cover up with clothes most of the time!

So so pleased to have been on this journey :)

@tinyemmy how is the adhd meds going?

Thank you just seen this ! I am on the SheMed continued programme now but if I can get out of it I’m considering switching back to Mounjaro and jumping between pharmacies but going to look at this first. I agree , easier to just be with one. I hate the weekly check in with she med and they’ve also sent 1.7 mg for the last 3 prescriptions even though my weight loss is stalled .

Reginaphalangeeeee · 18/03/2026 12:41

Hey @JBJ how's things settling?
And @tinyemmy?

I’m finding loss is slow & but up and down since beginning HRT.
@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGardennot sure what dose you are on still. I was trying to pan out my 10mg pen to 8-9mg each but think losses are so slow I ha E gone back to 10mg.
Sad I haven't really noticed it and now wondering if I actually need to go to 12.5mg 😩
It's so expensive I wish I could do this alone.

kittykarate · 18/03/2026 14:14

Despite a ski holiday packed with lovely food and maybe not enough skiing - I have lost 700g since my last weigh in 2 weeks ago. I'm counting that a win, as it also means I have dipped under 60kg. My next pen is my last 1mg Wegovy - I'm going to try moving down to 0.5 and see if I stay at a sensible weight.

JBJ · 19/03/2026 00:12

Hi @Reginaphalangeeeee I’m doing really well, just about healed up, eating everything I can get my hands on and piling weight on. All self control has disappeared and I’m starving ALL THE TIME! Finding it quite stressful actually and not sure what to do.

Oh no. Guess the drugs well and truly out your system now.
I am sure it feels like it but doubt you will be piling on weight.
I guess it may be worth speak with your doctor?
Does drinking lots of fluid or eating dense nutritious food help?
For me, as soon as I give into sugary baked goods and bread I can not stop so I will have to treat it like a drug addiction when I come off MJ and avoid any contact.

tinyemmy · 21/03/2026 20:49

@JBJ that's where I was but I've started working with an accountability coach. It's ea@Reginaphalangeeeee days but I haven't binge eaten since I spoke to her on Tuesday and up until then I couldn't string two days in a row. I'm hopeful.

tinyemmy · 21/03/2026 20:49

Post went crazy it should say it's early days. I wanted to tag @Reginaphalangeeeeeto see how you're getting on..I can't take two people at the moment seemingly

tinyemmy · 21/03/2026 20:50

Has anyone heard from @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden

Reginaphalangeeeee · 22/03/2026 08:09

Glad Councilling helping @tinyemmy
I have a long way to go yet before finishing medication, just a case of how long I can afford it. I am petrified to come off it. Life feels normal on it now.

yes how are you @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 31/03/2026 20:11

Waves. Hello! Thankyou for thinking of me. Work has been completley overwhelming and I think this is probably the longest I've not read/ posted on mumsnet since my first baby was born 17years ago 😂.

Well done with the counselling Tiny ❤️.

@Reginaphalangeeeee Completley relate to this now being normal and petrified to come off it. I am really hoping I can drop down doses when I get to a normal weight to make it more affordable but I think I will need this long term. I'm both so happy that food (or indeed my health and health fears) doesnt dominate my life anymore and also so sad to think how much of my life could have been lived differently like this.

It truly is a different way of life and has so removed a lot of the shame for me when I realised that all that well meaning advice around healthy eating works when your brain isn't crackers!

I'm currently taking 8.3 on MJ and have done for months and months. Weight loss is much slower and still have weeks I don't lose /weeks I lose more but I'm at peace with that now.

My Bmi 28.... Still mad to think I could start at this stage (health conditions can do from Bmi 27)

I still am surprised when I catch glances of myself, and can sit curled up on the sofa etc 😊. Stomach still disproportionately large..hoping the loose skin will look okay in clothes eventually!

@JBJ glad you're healing up x
