Shemed January Starters - Thread 4

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 22/08/2025 18:38

Hello everyone! I completely missed the other thread was full (haven't been too well this week) so I've started this one and will tag as many people as I can think of from recent pages. Do tag anyone else you think of that might miss the new thread!

I hope everyone is okay. It's been unsettling times hasn't it with all the news about the price increases and very little from Shemed as to what they are planning. I am hopeful that of all people we will be shielded the most due to being on the Study (fingers crossed).

I weighed in this morning and took second dose of the 10mg. I seemed to put on this morning but if I take the weight I've been most of this week...

I am exactly half way to my target! And I've lost 25% of my bodyweight!

10mg - so far no burps or nausea but I am wondering if this extreme tiredness is in part due to the drug. Was eating just as I was before the last couple of days but today don't want to eat so who knows!

I'll read up and tag people if I can.

I also wondered today whether I should be in the group (!) as no longer with SheMed. I'm happy if someone still with SheMed wants to start the next thread... Or we could stay as a group that did statt together and so are facing decisions about wegovy /other providers/maintenance together?

Morning -

@Reginaphalangeeeee Ooh i guess that counts as a nsv in a way that theres less bum padding? I am impresswd you're under bmi 35 - I'm m hopong to join you next week! Im jabbing my second lower dose this friday and so hoping it resolves some of my issues.

I similarly hadnt asked GP abouf hrt due to weight- I:m not sure what weight it becomes an issue. I also wanted to start adhd meds too. It's s hard untangling where the stress is isn't it. Im so looking forwars to the day that they dont assume weight is the reason for anything Igo into the doctors for...

@JBJ I think im going to stay on mj for now. Ive got switching anxiety too... But then wonder if id be less tired!

@tinyemmy it aojnda like your weighr has settled within the range od a dew pounds? Are you thinking about weight less do you think?

Im hoping i might make it into "overweight" band by my birthday (March). I'm not sure when I'm likely to get to normal. I think weight loss often starts to slow down towards the end when losing a large amount. Hopefully by end of the summer maybe?!

The burps are better today! But have made a lot of use of peppermint, pepto etc since the jab. I'm still tired. But I've got a new work pattern this term. I'm currently hopeful it will all improve. I've done a month at the next level up of my fitness programme.

I'm trying to do photos and measurements on the 1st of the month so will do that tonight zzzz. (How is it October??)

Crazy that it's October. I think we should stay together, we originated as a SheMed group, it's a shame it's changed, although to be fair this is where we would have been in Jan, so it's just been brought forward a bit.

I think about my weight a lot but I no longer diet. I eat what I want because of mj and I am terrified of putting the weight back on and that's stopping me from going too crazy.

I need to decide whether to just keep chasing the cheapest pen (with maintenance friendly providers). IQ looks like the cheapest for 5 next but I'm hoping to hold off for another couple of weeks given I've just started a pen and have one in the fridge. I think I should be able to take it to 8 weeks...

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 01/10/2025 16:20

Gosh I've just seen my last posts 😳. I sometimes forget to check the screen actually says what I think I typed...

Yay for making pens last longer. Im hoping to make mine last 6 weeks in total if it works as i knew i wanted to go a bit. It's still so expensive though 😳.

I'm all up for staying together just didn't want to assume! It is such a shame it didnt finish nicely at a year!

Please can we all stay together. Great comfort here and you feel like my MJ friends more than SheMed friends. It’s been a journey for us all so would love if this chat continues.

Definitely stay together, I'd probably never find you again if you were all somewhere else!!

Bear2014 · 02/10/2025 12:47

Also happy to stay together on future threads for support!

Really annoyed this morning as I was sitting working from home in my front room and then I get an email saying Royal Mail attempted to deliver my Numan pen and I wasn't in - they will deliver again tomorrow. I deliberately arranged it for today as I knew I would be here and not move. They must have not even rung the bell as I didn't even have the radio on and was listening out for them!! This whole thing is just so unnecessarily stressful sometimes.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/10/2025 14:19

Grrr they blatantly didnt try did they 😞. Is it one you have to sign for or is there a safeplace they could leave it til you get in?

OP posts:
Bear2014 · 02/10/2025 14:30

I'm pretty sure it's one you have to sign for. Hopefully it will still be cool-ish tomorrow. Now it's October I suppose ambient temperature is lower so that's something!

bluesmartie83 · 02/10/2025 16:09

I am totally embracing the autumn and have had a full clothing sort out and brought a few key items in smaller sizes from vinted. I took my first Wegovy 1mg jab on Tuesday. Normally do it first thing at 5.30am before work but hadn't really had chance to read up on how to use the pen etc so waited until the evening when I was home. Currently I feel no difference to MJ. Suppression is still there and I am lucky to continue to be (touch wood) symptom free! hopefully when I check in next week I will be on track with my usual 1-2lbs loss although I have been a little static for the last few weeks. I am however on the verge of thinking this may be my last month and I will try to go it alone. I have never wanted to be taking these jabs for the forseeable and I really want to see how I manage over the next few months and take a view as to whether I'm ready? I am still classed as overweight on my BMI but to be honest I am happy with how I am now and chasing a weight on the scale seems to be my focus rather than enjoying being healthier and happier in my own skin! It really brought things home when my daughter - who started her A levels last month at college was discussing which university she would like to attend. In 2 years she will be gone off to live away and I really want to be present and enjoying life in the moment with her and my 12 year old son who in a blink of an eye will be following! So I am working to embed the healthy eating and the positive body image and learn to love how I am now and not chase the elusive 'normal' BMI weight which is another 2 stone away. I hope that makes some sense and that although we are all on different stages of our journey but ultimately we are all working to be healthier and happier versions of ourselves - this doesn't always come from a number on the scale but a holistic look at our lives and what we want to achieve in the now and the long term. I think this change with the price increases etc has brought on an epiphany moment for me!

tinyemmy · 02/10/2025 16:47

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I've had my appointment with Dr J. I got diagnosed with ADHD! Now on the waiting list for medication.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/10/2025 16:53

Grrrr thays irritating @Bear2014 . Having said that I've gone with a new provider that should deliver tomorrow so hope that one isnt a sign for one!

@bluesmartie83 Well done! I've brought a new dress and wore it today and loving being in clothes that fit my newer body. Im still wearing my "big" clothes but now realising how much they are baggu in comparison!

My eldest daughter has also just started A levels. Its really hit me there isnt a lot of time left. Shes busy over half term tok so we cant even do days out then... I love that she will have seen me more sctive and healthier before she goes but it is twinged with a bit of sadness at what could have been.

@tinyemmy wahooooooo!!! Congratualtions 🎉🎉🎉. How do you feel? Have they said how ling that will be?

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden "Only look back to see how far you've come", You've made a change, be proud of that ❤️

There was an element of me that was like are you sure, then an of course they're sure, I've known this myself for ages. It's kind of nice but also scary. 3 months wait for medication review. It's a long wait but I've waited this long...
I don't know if I will still need mj with the ADHD medication so not really sure what to do, but don't want to risk not being able to get mj if I still need it. I've got about 15 to 19 doses left

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/10/2025 17:20

Wow 3months! Mine was a few weeks. There are some providers that wait even longer though so I guess its relative.

Is it worth going with one od the maintenance friendly providers - they let you restart within a year I think if you feel you need to?

I think they would stop any adhd meds that have the side effect of appetite suppression if you lose too much/go underweight. But I think for me they would curb that impulsive desire to binge. But i was on MJ when i started... Ill be curious to know how you go!

Yes I think I need to buy from a decent maintenance provider that allows for buying again. I need to do some research. Although if I buy another pen I will have another 8-10 doses. i think it may be a good idea to plan to be off mj for titration and then only adding mj if the other medication doesn't keep the binging at bay.

When I first looked into it Dr J had the shortest timelines on the ADHD website, I didn't check them and instead of being 8-12 weeks they said it would be 18-20, I can't remember how long the medication wait was supposed to be but I guess that has gone up too. Anyway people seem to be pleased with Dr J, so it's worth the wait. Maybe it will be quicker.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/10/2025 17:42

I was really pleased with them. And it's been straightforward ordering.

I'd be tempted to order a 2.5 from pharmulous oe oushk or one of the maintenance ones just for the purpose of being on their books.

And yes would be ideal to be off mj so you can see exactly what the adhd meds are doing... Good luck!

Thank you! Good advice. I had a maintenance call with Pharmulous, although when I looked at them again I thought they were quite expensive... I think they allow you to be on the books for free which would be good!

@Bear2014 I feel your frustration. I am mad with Numan and Royal Mail!!!

My delivery was due yesterday so arranged to stay home, had tracking info ready. Early in the morning got a message from RM to ‘sorry for the error but we have taken your parcel to another sorting location & will update you when it is back with us”.
i was fuming! No tracking update so stayed in all day. Contacted Numan who did nothing but said wait. They sent me info to say it will stay cool in packaging for 48hours guarentee.
I complained to RM… no help. They said that delivery was ‘tracked 24hours’ costing £3 and that doesn’t guarantee 24hours (well why bloody call it that). They said any high value items & medication should be sent by special delivery services £8 and that would ensure 24 hours guarantee and can claim if lost, damaged or spoilt in anyway.

Today I waited and it arrived by 11am (10mins within the 48hours max from Numan postage time).

When I opened the package, not cold just room temperature.

I have complained. Numan basically said I can have a refund if I send this pen back, but where does that leave me!! I am not ready to start this new pen, have one official and one one golden dose still…
what would you do?
Honestly, all this stress for bloody £5extra postage fee when new pens now quoted £329!
I think I have to jump ship from them too.
My post man is also an idiot! He put my Siemens one is ‘safe place’ at someone else’s property. Today delivered a parcel for someone else to me. I now don’t trust him, the RM in general or Numan.

Any advice welcome. @Bear2014I hope yours arrives early tomorrow and cool.

JBJ · 02/10/2025 21:18

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGardenCan I ask a question about taking smaller doses from the pen please? 10mg is working wonders for me, loads of energy, sleeping well etc, however, the constipation is driving me insane! Didn’t have this on any other dose, so thinking of going lower. Worked out that there’s about 240 clicks in the pen, so for 5 doses that’d be 48 clicks each, which I think would work out at 8mg - does that sound right? So can I click the pen 48 times, inject, and repeat a further 4 times? Or do I need to extract the last dose with a syringe the same as the golden dose? Thanks

Reginaphalangeeeee · 03/10/2025 06:35

@JBJYes60 clicks =10mg, 48 clicks would be 8mg. That means you would have 5 doses of that and still have another non-clickable ‘golden dose’ left in there too

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 03/10/2025 06:39

Morning,

So weigh in for me and my bmi is 35 exactly!!! Soooo close....

@Reginaphalangeeeee I genuinely am not sure what I would do. I'd be tempted to send it back but the people on the SheMed group on Facebook when I used to be in that all seemed fine with it if it was literally the next one you used. You would think tracked 24 would be 24hours wouldn't you....

@JBJ If its working for you have you tried other things for the constipation - ie I use movicol sachets when the prunes/chia/whatever aren't working. I take 1 the first day, 1 or 2 the second day and its a gentle way to get things moving (drink water!). But yes I count clicks (I'm doing 50/60) and expect to use a syringe at the end. Obviously although lots of people do it its not how its supposed to be used etc.

Yes there are 60 clicks per dose. So the 4 official doses have 240 clicks
So 48 looks right to get 5 doses of 8mg to me (obviously don't rely on anything anyone online says including me!) There would still be leftover for the golden/extra dose.

OP posts:
JBJ · 03/10/2025 08:59

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGardenI’m using movicol regularly, eating at least 30g of fibre a day, taking a magnesium supplement, which I’ve heard is good for helping things along, and still struggling. Just feel constantly bunged up! Never had constipation in my life before, as I have IBS (well I did prior to MJ!) and I’m really not liking it.

Bear2014 · 03/10/2025 10:23

@Reginaphalangeeeee ugggh it's all so annoying. If you don't need to start the pen yet, maybe send it back?! I'm still waiting for mine today, will see how it is. If I do keep it, I'll use it before the one I received last month but I also have not started yet, as that one arrived very cold.

I'm just telling myself that I'm buying this one and the next one, which will see me through til end of Jan, then I'll try and go onto some kind of maintenance plan. So won't have to spend any money on it or deal with any BS for a couple of months.
