I thought the patent was valid until 2031/32 for wegovy and 2036 for mounjaro so not really short term solutions. Wegovy 7.2 might help with competition if it’s cheaper than MJ.

2028 for wegovy I think? More info here

unless new conditions mean that has been extended, perhaps..

Google suggests 2031 for the Uk for the main patents for wegovy. (Image loading) so unsure

Does anyone know if it's possible to switch back to MJ if it turns out that Wegovy doesn't suit?

As I am so close to goal I am wondering if it's worth switching to wegovy for maintenance and then see how it goes but would like the option to go back to MJ if it's not working out

I think you can switch between them as they are similar. Need advice on dosage from a pharmacist obviously.

Denial.
Anger.
Barging ( mad ordering )
Depression
Acceptance
Then moving onto joy at delivery......

@NotPerfectlyAdverage

A very good summary!

I am disappointed that I got so carried away ….

Especially when it turns out that the increase is not as great as first thought anyway! I wonder where they came up with the £400+ figure.

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 22/08/2025 22:17

I’m so confused as to how people keep trying to order from different pharmacies? Surely once you are with one you can’t keep getting more and more prescriptions from different places?
im with Voy so unless I leave them (which currently I don’t want to) I can’t go and get any extra pens?
Unless someone can enlighten me how to? I’m only on my first pen, next one comes next week at old price then they will go up. It’s so frustrating!

Just place an order with a different pharmacy

These were the prices first "leaked" when the story first broke:

"What are the new UK List Prices of Mounjaro?
Mounjaro®▼ (tirzepatide) KwikPen® Dose Updated UK List Price 2.5mg £133 5mg £180 7.5mg £255 10mg £255 12.5mg £330 15mg £330"

So the £400 plus amounts were only ever hype

So I can order a 10mg pen even though I’m on a 2.5 dose? I don’t want to start out at the bottom with a new provider and I don’t want it to somehow cancel my voy subscription?

Generally you have to supply evidence of your most recent prescription so, if your last pen was a 2.5, you would have to send in a picture of the box and label or receipt for our order and can only order the same or one dose up.

Ok so when my 5mg arrives next week I could try to get a 7.5 then? Although it’s cutting it close to Sept so probably nowhere will give me any.Wish I’d started sooner.

Those are the list prices. That is what a pharmacy would pay to the wholesalers, they then need to sell it for more to cover their costs and make a profit, hence the predictions of over £400. However, Eli Lilly have negotiated deals with pharmacies to give them a better price than the list price which is why MMP for example can sell a 15mg for £271.

I was thinking exactly the same. I'm feeling really despondent tonight.

Yes, I was looking at the left-hand column and thinking... not so bad. Then I realised those are the old prices 🤦🏻‍♀️

It must be really hard when the drug has had such a massive impact, @MynameisJune, @Littlelambseativy. Tbh it hasn't for me, but it's still my only hope. And no I haven't developed good habits, just a box full of protein powders and electrolytes. I've done super healthy eating before for six or nine months, then it all goes to shit. I don't think I've got it in me again.

FurForksSake · 22/08/2025 23:41

I was just reading an article about weight loss that was challenging the 3500 deficit to lose a pound rhetoric. It was saying that normal weight loss is always slower than you think, less linear than you think and with more plateaus. The predictor of success was to do with being physically active, compliant and consistent and acknowledging that it’s a slow journey and requires patience over everything else. If you could manage even a 10calorie deficit it would lose to weight loss. It would take a really long time, but it would happen. People get really pissed off if they don’t lose 2lbs a week or they stall, but that’s reality. Tracking, thinking about goals and having small achievable ones was really key. And if progress stalled looking at patterns, refocusing the goal and remembering why you started.

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 22/08/2025 23:52

I know if I could get to my goal I can maintain. I know most people hate Slimming World but it was always my plan to rejoin. Low GI and being mindful of my weight works for me. I got here by not getting on the scales during covid and putting on 2 stone over lock down.

Same here, I’m 40, I’ve been overweight and obese my whole adult life. I’ve tried every diet, every fad, calorie counted numerous times, weight watchers,
slimming world, hypnosis you name it. Nothing has worked long term like MJ.

I’m trying not to be gutted, and be optimistic that there will be massive strides in this area really soon so things will change again hopefully for the better.

PillarPost · 23/08/2025 00:09

i am sure I have been the slowest loser! It took me 6 months to lose 24 lbs on Mounjaro, so slow. Then I completely stalled for 4 whole months. But I was so cautious about side-effects, I didn’t want to go up past 7.5. mg. Anyway, now I’m on 10 mg things are moving again. I’ve “only” got a stone to lose now. I am even thinking it will be weird to be that size again (11.7 stone again after 20 years).

Prior to Mounjara I spent 6 months with Noom. Noom was great IMO and I still use it for occasional calorie counting. I lost a stone relatively easily. And much cheaper of course than MJ. But, as with others on here, as soon as I took my eye off the ball, it all came back. I just “gave up” :-(.

On a standard calories controlled diet sheer hunger intervenes and I can’t maintain the hyper focus for too long. MJ was good because it just helped that side of things: simply eating a bit less. Anyway I’ve got enough pens to maintain for a while. When they run out, some time in 2026, I’m not sure what I’ll do.

There is no restriction on ordering from different pharmacies. I only discovered that last week. Ordering with a new pharmacy won’t affect your current subscription.

Some pharmacies won’t prescribe again until, for eg two weeks after your last prescription, but it’s worth trying.

Look at the Monj website to see who has 5mg in stock. It’s more widely available right now than the higher doses.

monj.co.uk/mounjaro-price-comparison-by-monj/

The screenshots are listed from cheapest up. Some people are finding that a pharmacy may accept an order but cancel and refund it a few days later. It’s a bit of a gamble at the moment.

If the ordering process doesn’t ask for a photos of your current prescription box, send it in by email to avoid delay.

Oh, @LaGioiosanotLeviosa, if you're looking for 7.5mg, screenshots are attached, along with the cheapest new prices for September for comparison, which are currently with Medicine Marketplace (not taking new people yet).

Looks like you'd save about £30-40 on one pen, at best?

With Voy you can change your order date in the app. It gives you the option of moving it forward by 1 week, but once you've done that it resets so you can bring it forward another week (I assume at some point they'd say no, but ive certainly been able to bring forward by 2 weeks). So assuming you can afford it, you could move next weeks order to the next available date. The following order will automatically change to 4-weeks later so if you bring that forward a couple of times you might be able to get 2 more pens before 14th Sept (Voy have said prices won't change until then). As you'll then have a couple of pens in stock you can delay the next order by a couple of weeks to gradually use up the ones you have (but be careful not to go more than 6-8 weeks without ordering as you'll need the order history to maintain your dose)

Gruttenberg · 22/08/2025 19:29

I had no idea it was an option! Sadly I was on 15 - they didn't have it in stock so I've got 12.5 but I'm going to try to reduce it to a lower level. When I started everyones advice was to get onto the higher dose as quickly as possible and then count clicks. I haven't done that, so might as well try to go down again. I'm going to stick with my local pharmacy - it's just too stressful trying to get it online.

I don't understand what you mean by getting onto the highest dose as quickly as possible. If, for example, 5mg was working for you why would you want to increase the dosage? And, unless you lie to your prescriber, why would they increase your dose when it's working for you? Or am I missing something obvious?

Puppylucky · 23/08/2025 07:04

The original guidance @AnnaQuayInTheUk was to move up quite quickly to the proven effective dosages which are the higher ones.
