It’s not scare-mongering have an opinion @TryingAgainAgainAgain if they do change the pens, the I can see them removing the ability to count clicks. As that also extends pen life and loses them money. The American style pens don’t need to be primed so they have no need for extra liquid. It is absolutely not out of the realms of possibility that we will end up with the same. Two weeks ago everyone would have called it scaremongering if someone had said they wouldn’t be surprised if the price went up as we get the meds so cheap compared to anywhere else, and oh look what happened.

I think that’s slightly unfair, if she’s followed manufacturer dosing guidelines she hasn’t done anything wrong. She’s been unlucky but lots of people get to 15mg with no side effects or issues.

And I say this as someone who is on their 7th month and have only just gone up to 10mg.

Where did I say she’d ’done anything wrong’ - my point was just because a manufacturer suggests one thing you don’t necessarily have to follow it for the sake of it. I know my friend wishes she’d taken it slower now, as she is particularly upset about her hair loss which is very noticeable which is tied to too rapid weight loss. You - like me - clearly haven’t followed the recommended dose schedule and there must be a reason for that ie. the lower doses were working for you. They were working for my friend too but she chose to ignore that fact and raced to the highest dose and now regrets it..Not really sure what the point of your post was tbh.

She has lost around 4 stone since around April, but now has muscle weakness, is cold all the time and is losing a lot of hair. She has lost the weight she wanted to but at what cost?

That seems somewhat bitter.

Back in 2017 I decided to lose weight. No clubs, programs, tracking or special diets. And defo no WLI. I just started eating only healthy, whole foods. And took up running (in a big way).

I lost a stone a month for 7 months and went from 18st to 10st in the 9 months between January and September. No muscle loss, in fact only muscle build because I started running 50-100 km a week.

The process taught me two things:

One. I didn't know how to manage ending weight loss. I had all-or-nothing thinking around eating. I didn't know how to maintain while exercising heavily. I am working on that this time.

Two. People get jealous. They make underhand jibes at losing weight too quickly. Or losing too much weight and bring too thin (although at my lightest I was only 4lb under top end healthy BMI). Or things about damaging my knees/body running, knees will regret it when im older. Or investing too much time on myself running - inferring having that much free time for running makes a woman lazy. Odd.

"But at what cost...?" I realise this narrative is about their perspective on their own health, their words were not about me and my (amazing) weight loss.

(Makes me think of the America Ferrera speech in the Barbie Movie).

Bonus three. I also learnt I can do this. I need to focus on maintaining when I get to Target.

Edited

I’m not bitter at all, my friend regrets being in such a rush and has said as much. She hasn’t been running like you or any kind of exercise beyond her normal routine of walking to and from places so realises that is the reason she has muscle loss and feels so weak all the time (her words not mine before you accuse me of being jealous). I haven’t seen the Barbie movie so don’t get that reference.

Wasn’t there consensus that the kwik pen is likely to continue in the uk due to it being manufactured here or in Ireland and therefore there is ready supply of it and no worries about retooling a factory or facing import charges? The pen isn’t just for Mounjaro is it?

QueenOfHiraeth · 24/08/2025 21:34

@SilkCottonTree I know where you are coming from. When I first told friends I was using MJ, one was very enthusiastic that she was going to do it too for health reasons and asked me for advice on providers, etc. I also offered to help her with advice on diet, exercise, supplements, etc that I got from my first provider but she never came back to me.

I heard from another friend some months later that she had started the medication, lost weight very quickly then stopped because of hair loss. I may have just been lucky but I took things very slowly, on the advice of my first provider and never had that problem

I think Kwikpens are used for some insulins as well

Has this been confirmed or just rumoured?

Maybe we should have been a bit quieter about the bonus dose. It was bound to piss off the manufacturer and the suppliers.

FurForksSake · 24/08/2025 21:57

There’s another thread on here discussing it and it does sound like they are reducing how much is in each pen.

I’m consider counting clicks to still get 5 doses from the pen. So 4 0.5s and a 0.4.

I may be wrong but I imagine that changing the delivery system would be a huge enterprise and wonder if this is just more scare-mongering from people who enjoyed the drama of last week's changes

FurForksSake · 24/08/2025 23:10

I think they might just be reducing the volume and may change the advice about the priming, apparently with wegovy you only prime the first time you use a new pen.

Mnjmnj · 25/08/2025 00:10

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 24/08/2025 11:24

This is really interesting, I’ll be going up to 5mg soon as I’m on subscription then will have a 7.5 on order BUT if 5mg works really well I’ll definitely be ordering another 5mg for the 3rd month instead. I don’t want to rush up strengths either and other people’s testimonies really do prove it’s all an individual response to the medication not a blanket one.

I’ve never moved beyond 5mg, I haven’t needed to. Oddly I occasionally feel tempted too even though I’m almost at my target weight. It’s almost like a FOMO response.

Orangesandlemons77 · 25/08/2025 13:40

The Daily Mail has moved on from it's "Fat Jabbers in Meltdown" story and now has one about a woman who is 'addicted' to mounjaro and is telling us how to continue and beat the price rises.

I'm intrigued but unfortunately is is behind a paywall...wonder if she is microdosing from the higher strength pens or something.

Here's EXACTLY how I'm beating the Mounjaro price hike

My name is Louise, and I am addicted to Mounjaro. I feel amazing - super healthy, energised, and happier in my skin than I have for decades.

Doggymummar · 25/08/2025 13:59

You can use 12footladder to get behind pay walls if you want to read it. I recognise scognise her face

Doggymummar · 25/08/2025 14:07

Archive.ph as 12 footladder is down

Orangesandlemons77 · 25/08/2025 15:00

I'm not sure how to do that

Most of it seems to be coming from Reddit, which I don't trust as far as I can throw a ball.

I have just received this from medicine marketplace

From September 1st, the price of Mounjaro will be increasing significantly, as Eli Lilly, the manufacturer, has announced price rises of up to 170%. We understand price changes can be challenging. While prices are rising, our goal remains the same: to provide you with the most reliable service and the most competitive prices possible for your treatment.

Mounjaro, new prices from September 1st, inclusive of shipping:

2.5mg £137 (↑ £28)
5mg £178 (↑ £43)
7.5mg £215 (↑ £80)
10mg £239 (↑ £104)
12.5mg £251 (↑ £106)
15mg £271 (↑ £126)

I know SomeGuyUK50 really well and I'm sorry to say he's not a drama queen or untrustworthy. He's got lots of contacts in the pharmacy industry, is very knowledgeable about WLIs and related stuff and is a very bright cookie. He's also pretty renowned for sniffing out bullshit. If it was virtually anyone else, I'd be less concerned this was true - but, unfortunately, if he's worried, I am too.

He's also backed up everything with sources. So, regrettably, I suspect he's right.

Although radio silence since placing my order on 15th. Not replying to emails or giving me a sensible answer over the phone despite taking my money. So I think they are on my ones to avoid list going forward.

Interesting that you know the Reddit OP, @KrankyKumquat. I can see why his concern was triggered, but do you not find mirko9000's detailed explanation of why this is likely a paper-only adjustment of the wording convincing?

But those sources, @Burnserns, are literally just the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) document, where there is clearly a change in wording, but there is disagreement over whether that means anything will actually change in the manufacturing/fill level.

Also the free text added by Eli Lilly for the reason for the change which was -"reduction in the filling volume of the cartridges used in the Kwikpen prentations". Which suggests (to me at least) more than aligning descriptions.

However, we could well be incorrect. Only time will tell and there is nothing any of us can do about it even if it is changing.

Orangesandlemons77 · 25/08/2025 18:01

Blueyshift · 25/08/2025 15:24

Thanks, so the gist of it is

I’d found a cunning way to keep the cost down by ordering injection pens from my ‘dealer’ (a low-cost online pharmacy which asks few questions), requesting large doses (a 10mg pen) each time and making each pen last twice as long by injecting a half dose weekly fix (5mg) into my shrinking belly, buying extra needles online.
According to my back-of-a-napkin calculations, my ‘fix’ costs less than £3 a day which I consider to be a bargain when my childlike appetite means our food and wine bill is down by at least £10 a day.

Choux · 25/08/2025 18:30

I find it pretty shocking that a national newspaper is publishing an article advocating taking a prescription only medication in a way that goes against the Patient Information Leaflet.

I mean many of us are thinking of doing similar and are discussing the safety of it here but I thought the Mail would not allow that in print. Is there no disclaimer? Does she say she has actually started doing it or she thought about it but then didn’t because the leaflet says 30 days per pen?
