Super annoyed - Warm pen

Has anyone had any luck sending a pen back because it turned up too hot?

Mine was posted Friday midday with Royal Mail 24, so it should’ve arrived Saturday. I stayed in all day for it but Royal Mail messed up and said it was sent to the wrong depot and they had to 're-reoute', so it didn’t come. I was away at a wedding overnight after that.

They then tried to deliver today (Sunday!) which is already 48 hours after they posted it, but I wasn’t home. When I checked the tracking this morning it still said “in transit” so I didn’t even think they’d be attempting delivery today.

Couldn’t even redirect it because the only neighbour I’d trust to take it in is away on holiday.

I know most places say no refunds if you’re not in for delivery, but by the time they tried today it had already been sitting in 26-degree heat for two days and would of been warm, so it would’ve been ruined anyway.

I dont need to use it for a few weeks either. Has anyone had any luck getting a replacement in a situation like this?

I had this last week with med express. After a few emails back and forth where they said it was fine 30 days from delivery (I explained I didn’t want to use the pen straight away) they agreed I could send it back and my new cold pen arrived yesterday.

ohbee · 17/08/2025 15:32

So you don’t have the pen? It might not be warm, perhaps not fridge temp anymore but that happened to me once and I just put it in the fridge and used it as normal. A lot of people take their own out about half an hour before injecting and then put it back in the fridge after, I don’t know why but I have read so many stories of doing this and the fluctuations in temp are so minimal they don’t affect it.

I would like a replacement pen as also not planning to use it straight away! I'm really hoping they dont try to fight me on the fact I wasn't in today though!

I have never had a parcel delivered via royal mail on a sunday before!

No, they attempted delivery today but I was still at the wedding venue.

It will 100% be warm, Its boiling out and would of been in a hot royal mail van for days now.

It didn’t arrive Saturday when it should have, That wasn’t your fault. They have to agree to a replacement pen. Yes they will try and fob you off with the “30 days” etc but the 30 day room temperature allowance is for a used pen.

Thanks, Il quote the screenshot. I just hope they dont fight it, really cant be assed with going back and forth 10 times before I get what I should be entitled too!

We need to stop ordering from pharmacies who send Tracked 24 rather than Special Delivery.

The latter is the only service that guarantees next day delivery with Royal Mail.

I wouldn't be surprised if some unscrupulous pharmacies risking cold chain deliveries via Tracked 24 to save a few quid, would also send you the exact same pen back out as a 'replacement' when you complain it's warm. Or worse, put your returned pen back into circulation elsewhere.

bugalugs45 · 17/08/2025 17:49

I had a refund for a pen that arrived totally defrosted but this was several months ago , but i actually refused delivery at the door as could see package was soaking wet . I sent them my ring doorbell footage where you can see the box dripping wet!
However I think at the moment I wouldn’t risk it with all the supply issues you won’t get a replacement quickly , if at all, but if you’re prepared for that and just want a refund then crack on.

I think it's for the supplier to replace your pen and then take it up with Royal Mail themselves.

sweetpickle2 · 17/08/2025 20:20

I’d say your biggest issue is that all the suppliers have very limited stock at the moment due to the panic buying, so even if they’re willing to replace they may not be able to.

That's my fear.

If you don’t need it for a few weeks, there will be plenty of stock in September.

Time4changeagain · 18/08/2025 08:13

@Monstersincfactory Maybe say that you are willing to wait for the replacements to be sent as you want the product not a refund. You still have one useable pen out of the three received so it’s doable. They will be getting more stock in September even if they have run out now.

BleeBlahBlue · 18/08/2025 08:14

I had this issue after Lloyds changed from Evri (who are extremely reliable in my area) to Royal Mail. My delivery turned up warm because it was left in a delivery van all day on the hottest day of the year. And their packaging and ice blocks were also reduced. I've got a thread about it on here.

After a lot of back and forth and them messaging me to insist it was OK, even after I quoted eli lily that it should be kept no hotter than 8 degrees during transit and certainly not over 30 degrees.

I asked for the pharmacists registration number, which legally you are entitled to when receiving advice from a pharmacist. They then sent out a new pen.

So ask for the name and registration number of the pharmacist who insists you can use it. The over 8 degrees only starts once the pen is used the first time.

Ive now moved to collection from Asda.

I only ordered one pen from them, not 3.

Thank you, I will do this! Evri is also extremely reliable where I live too and would much rather Evri delivered!

Il mark the inside lid of the pen with a marker so Il know if they send it back. Il record myself doing it and then opening it.
