Any tips of how to not ruin it all by going on holiday!

This Tuesday I'll be a month into my Wegovy journey and it's going so well. I've lost 11lbs as of today and will love to have hit the 1 stone mark by the time we go. I'll take an injection the night before we fly out and I'm planning on bringing my pen with me.

However I'm concerned about healthy choices. I'm vegetarian and have been to where we're going before. There's not a HUGE amount of restaurants that cater well for vegetarians and so I've usually had things like patatas bravas, cheese, tortilla etc. lots of fried food !

I know I can still eat these but in moderation. But has anyone have any success stories about going away and not putting the weight back on?
I'm definitely planning on drinking a lot less alcohol than I normally do. It's going to be absolutely roasting anyways so will be plenty of water most of them time. And we'll go to the huge food market and get lots of lovely fruits in which I plan on eating for lunch.

There's also a couple of vegetarian restaurants and one does Asian style food so that's good to know that I can eat fairly healthy there.

Don't worry too much, do the best you can, enjoy your holiday and get right back on track when you get home

That's the attitude I should have isn't it!

I’m about to go on holiday tomorrow. I use Mounjaro. I’m taking my jab as usual tonight, then will jab late when I’m back as only going for a week and don’t want to transport the pen.

I’ve decided that I will likely gain a few lb’s from the deviation from my usual food routines, but I’m trusting myself to make good choices for my body while away. Too much fried food/onions/ alcohol make me feel crap.

my advice (and the advice I intend to follow) is enjoy your holiday, eat nice things in moderation, make good choices when you can, anticipate a small gain, and get back on the wagon when you are back.

as long as you don’t go totally mad you likely wont gain loads.

well done on your loss, you have done brilliantly! Have a great time away xx

Yes! And if guilt starts to creep in just remember how fortunate we are to live in a time where we can go on holiday with family/friends, make amazing memories, and have the benefit of this medication to support whilst there and when back to keep on track. Even if you do gain, it will mostly be water weight and will come off quickly.
Have a great time!

Thank you! I'm really chuffed as I thought one week I hadn't lost any but by the time I had officially weighed myself I had. These injections are really life changing! I had planned on not bringing my pen but I'm away 10 days and do find a few days before my injection that I start feeling a little more hungry. I didn't go up a dose for my 2nd pen as I'm doing so well on the lowest.

We do a lot of walking on holiday as it's a city break with a beach so will actually be doing more exercise than I get at home! That will definitely be help.

I had a lovely 2 week holiday recently in Tuscany. I took the WLI's as usual both weeks. My 3 golden rules to myself were to swim lengths for 20 minutes every day, avoid all bread and avoid anything with sugar in, which I stuck to. Otherwise I happily ate and drank, but in moderation compared to previous years: I ate carbs, drank wine at both lunch and dinner, and much to my surprise I lost weight over the 2 weeks.
Have a wonderful time!

Just be sensible you know what is heavy in calorie terms so stick to salads , veggies lean protein and tomato based sauces - avoid heavy salad dressings , cheese and limit bread.

Pretty much exactly this.
I’ve had several holidays since starting MJ back in October and have taken this approach. Take my jab like normal and I naturally make healthy choices and drink less alcohol. Don’t have any booze at home, will drink at social occasions and sometimes not even then. And when I do it’s vodka soda with fresh lime not cordial or a glass or two of red wine.
Fried foods upset my stomach at the best of times, I do still eat them occasionally but not often, I’ve not had chips in a long time!
On holiday I tend to have a very light breakfast if I’m having it, eggs or fruit. Then some carbs with my lunch or a salad and then some kind of grilled meat and veg for dinner.

Hey OP, wishing you a lovely time away!

Just a suggestion, but have a think if there are any foods you need to avoid due to side effects, ie trigger foods? For me I have to avoid fatty/ fried food on MJ as it gives me a runny tum. I was thinking if we went on holiday I’d have to mentally prepare what swaps to go for to avoid loo dashes!

Plump82 · 17/08/2025 20:48

That a very good suggestion. I've actually been really lucky and haven't had any side effects at all. But, I've not eaten the likes of fried food since I started. Not sure I want to find out if it's an issue while on her holiday!!

Well I'm currently on holiday and really struggling! I'm not hungry, at all. I'm sure a lot of this is to with how hot it is but I'm drinking tonnes of water so probably filling myself up with that but today with it being so hot, walking a fair bit and not eating enough I felt so unwell. I actually had a sugary drink which I never do (even before the injections) as I felt so light headed. I bought lots of fruit in today and made some boiled eggs but the fruit was actually horrible so couldn't face it. Can't seem to find a happy balance!!
