Ordering from 2 suppliers at the same time

As above, can I order from 2 suppliers at the same time that I'm already customers of?

I've been on mj for 5 months and have used 3 different pharmacies so have accounts with them. In order to save some money can I order a pen from 2 different suppliers but on the same day? All my suppliers have so far notified my GP and I can see the letters on the app so I'm worried that my GP will flag it that I've ordered "too many" in a short time. But surely it makes sense to do this if I'm able and then it saves money

Has anyone else done similar

If you do it on the same day then the GP can’t do much about it, they can’t make yous end it back. They would just say don’t do it again

AliceMcK · 15/08/2025 17:26

My GPs don’t even look at the letters. They had no idea I’d been taking it when I told them. It’s one with different GPs, I’ve seen 4 different ones and had to tell them as it wasn’t obvious on my notes.

Snozzlemaid · 15/08/2025 17:32

I would imagine the letters are scanned onto your file by admin at your GP surgery. I think it’s unlikely a doctor will actually look at it.
When I started MJ last year a letter was sent each time I ordered but as far as I can see on my GP record on the NHS app no one has sent a letter for the last few months.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 15/08/2025 17:42

I use two different suppliers but I think only one notifies my GP. I have just put orders in today with both due to the price increase but have been getting from both for the last few months and nothing bad has happened!
GP is very likely to not notice or care!

IsItSnowing · 16/08/2025 08:15

I think they'd guess why you're buying 2 at the moment. But I agree with others, my GP scans the letters in but they take no real notice of them.

There's no real reason for them to care anyway, it's not uncommon for someone to order an extra prescription now and again. I sometimes get 2 x my asthma meds through my GP if I'm going on holiday for example.

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 16/08/2025 08:23

I ordered from two suppliers as soon as the news came out. I normally order when I'm down to one does so I don't have any reserve right now.

I'm still behind on the number of pens I should have ordered since joining ( golden dose) so I don't think they will care. It's just one extra pen

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 16/08/2025 08:30

Perfectly possible.
I don’t think your GP will comment at all if they are anything like mine.
As long as you are accurate in giving your health and dose information to each supplier nothing to stop people ordering from as many suppliers as they can in response to the imminent price increase.

TidyDancer · 16/08/2025 09:09

I’ve just done exactly this. I’d moved to Medicine Marketplace for cost reasons so I’ve been with them for two pens, got the last one just over a week ago. I ordered from MedExpress on Thursday morning when the news broke about the price hikes and will order from both again just before the end of the month. ME notify my GP but MM haven’t yet (despite me giving consent). I would be happy to explain it is solely due to the price hike but I really doubt they will ask since it’ll be fairly obvious.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 16/08/2025 09:50

You can do it, but depending on what dose you’re on, it might cause you problems down the line. If you’re on 10mg for instance and you get three pens, if in three months time (or whenever) when you need your next one, and you can’t prove you’ve been prescribed a 10mg in the previous four weeks then providers may expect you to start on 2.5mg again.

there MAY end up being a way around it, just because of the sheer number of people stockpiling but nobody knows if/how that will work yet.

This is a valid point. I emailed ME when I ordered Thursday because I had been just over 8 weeks since my last order with them and they said I was within the designated timeframe so they aren’t bothered for at least that long. My plan going forward from 1st September is to keep ordering every couple of months so I stay ahead of myself but not stockpiling too much.

Yea this is what I'm worried about.

So my last prescription was 8 july and I ordered another one yesterday which will hopefully come! So I e got enough to end of September or thereabouts. So then end of September/beginning of Oct I placed an order then the last prescription would be around now which is fine if I only order one pen like I have done as that would be the right time frame. But if I order another one now that would mean it's even longer between orders. I'm on 7.5 at the moment

But you will be able to show that you ordered an amount to last for a period of time which should be enough

BrendaSmall · 16/08/2025 20:00

I’ve just ordered from my regular supplier that doesn’t notify my surgery and also ordered from a new supplier who apparently informs my surgery!

In theory it wouldn’t work because they can only prescribe you 5mg and above with a valid prescription from the last four weeks. If you don’t have one, you go down to 2.5mg.

this is why some people doing the golden dose have issues with certain suppliers as they have to explain why they’ve gone five weeks!

I would like to think there’ll be some discretion given for a while because of people buying ahead, and I think you’d be ok if you bought a bundle of three rising doses from one supplier and continue to use that same supplier, but it’s a prescription and so has legal implications if they aren’t following the dispensing guidelines.

There is no break in use though, only ordering. If you can prove you bought 8 weeks worth of MJ 7 weeks ago it should be absolutely fine. Some pharmacies have already said it won’t be a problem as they know people are multi ordering just now due to the cost.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 16/08/2025 21:48

Which pharmacies, do you know? May be useful to others.

No, I don’t remember detail. MN is the only place I have read about MJ so I’m guessing the people who want to know are also reading the handful of threads about this

I just needed to show all the prescriptions from different pharmacies to explain how I’d ended up with a surplus. I had about 3 months between orders at one point because of the Aug expiry dates on the 15mg pens so didn’t want to keep ordering and have them be out of date before needed.

On that point, my latest pens have Dec 2025 expiry so I wouldn’t want to order too many and have the same issue…
